Yes it's too bad Xpress was down and Robin Hood was just ok. They did have a nice giant wheel on which I enjoyed freezing. It was seriously gusting some forceful winds at the top. One other ride I enjoyed at Walibizzle was the forwards/backwards flume. Otherwise the park was rather lackluster. So yeah...what is such an awesome ride like Goliath doing in that park?!?!

The backside of that card is simply astounding!!!!

Here's five Magic Mountain cards I picked up, on an early 1980s visit I believe. Not too exciting, but still, not bad for their time, lol.

Sorry if the printing on the back of the cards is somewhat out of focus. I don't scan stuff too often, so the printing may be a bit 'fuzzy'.

Enjoy...

This is a great card, but I was wondering if anyone noticed that the actual pic is from the days when the ride was at Paragon ... an early cut-and-paste.

BTW, for the history geeks like myself, I believe the graphic artist who created this card blacked out the word "Comet" on the lead car. For years after the fire that destroyed the helix, the Paragon Giant used trains from the Salisbury Beach Comet (aka Wildcat). These trains did not come from the Forest Park Highlands Comet as several web sites claim. (The FPH Comet had three sets of those funky streamlined four-bench cars with the headlight). Somewhere in The Closet I have a good shot of the Salisbury Comet trains running on the Paragon ride.

I'm just sayin'

From last week's Matterhorn to this week's, here's the original, and it appears that the snow is melting and Spring is just around the corner. One question...Why do I keep hearing that

from "The Price is Right" gameshow in my head?

I figure all you monorail fanboys will like this one too!

Here's a "Blast From The Past" - my past, actually, lol. I picked this up in September, 1975 (omg) when me and my partner did our first "road trip," down the entire west coast, as far as.... Tijuana.

It's a "postcard folder" that unfolds to reveal several photos of MM in "the old days". Way before Six Flags. And before several coasters that now reside there.

Enjoy.

Great addition Bill. I love seeing pictures of Magic Mountain in its early years. I remember riding the Galaxy everytime I went to the park. I also got the Mountain Express credit, as a matter of fact it was my first credit!!!!

Here is a postcard that shows a great old attraction. "The Magic Pagoda". It always smelt like a Doobie Brothers concert inside there.

So I'm curious about this Magic Pagoda attraction. I believe this is the first time I've ever heard of it. So what exactly was it? What happened to its remains? What is in its former location now? Details, details, details! Someone really needs to publish a book (accompanied by a DVD of course) on the history of the park.

^Was Ninja's station an existing building? Maybe that was formerly the Magic Pagoda?

This is really a great little souvenir, Bill. I had completely forgotten about the Galaxy wheel. Was that a one-of-a-kind? And where in the park was it located?

Thanks for sharing those! Really enjoyed them.

^ Judging by the map I have and what's there now, I believe the Galaxy ferris wheel was located where the swinging pirate ship and the swings are, now. Opposite the entrance to Goliath?

I don't know if it was the only one of it's kind. It looks like it was a system that had four small rotating wheels, with four cabs on each wheel, on each of two main towers that would raise and lower, but not together. One would be up and rotating while the other was down and loading.

The Magic Pagoda I think was added after the skyrides were already in place. On my 1975 map, it looks like it was opposite the top station of the funicular. And the skyride Ninja Station was separate from it, too. As was the Four Winds restaurant which is where the Superman loading station is now.

I also have the May 1975 flyer I received from MM in the mail, which showed the Pagoda as a new attraction that year, and describes it as...

"Inspired by the mysterious sights and sounds of the Hong Kong waterfront, the Magic Pagoda utilizes nine individual chambers of illusion to create mind boggling wonders. It's a space age technological marvel, an exciting house of mystery for all ages."

Hope that helps.
