The only thing I loved about Stabland was the pier! Seriously, it was beautiful! I think Jenn and I spent about 3 hours out there and randomly people would show up.

The park was just meh. The "mirror maze" was interesting being that there was no maze in there and it was twisted hallway with arrows. Though I'm going to a total loser if I'm talking about the wrong mirror maze.

Edit: Oh and the whip was totally insane! That was my first whip I was ever on. Sadly, all the rest after that didn't do anything. Coming off the ground was absolutely frightening.

I really don't know why people were so down on Rye... It really wasn't that bad. I never really felt in danger at all. Heck it was less scary than some of the chain parks on the trip... Plus it had some of the best dark rides on the trip. Saddest thing though was finding out that we would be denied the mouse.

I gotta say though they had one freaking wicked whip! That thing got AIR! How I have no idea... The Derby was really fun as well. I wish there were more of those around.

there is a Freudian slip. I wonder who finds it first ! (well, second )

Um, Perhaps the caption for the 3rd Dragon Coaster picture? I definitely missed a golden oppurtunity for a "That's what she said" joke on that one.

Loving the Photo TR, although far too much Stabland

Then you will love the next update because it is more Stabland!

Awesome pics of stab land! lol Altho its a Zamperla flyer not Vekoma! which in turn makes it 100 times worse!

Thanks Jay. I guess I just associated the pain with Vekoma. I corrected the captions.

Yeah, that is the mirror maze I was referring to. The only reason I listed it as a highlight was because of how pointless and random it was.

For everyone who mentioned the Whip, I have got a lot of photos of it coming up this evening.

Eric, cant' wait to see more stabland!

I honestly had a great night there! I mean, you make the most of what you're given and I really think everyone did, whether checking out the crazy dark rides, the whip or even hanging out on the boardwalk.

Thanks for the great updates to date!

Cheers,

Jay

Time for the final update on Rye's Playland.

Good night Rye's Playland. Next up will be a special update. It's time to play a game!

Here are few more pictures as we made our way back to the bus...

Dan is going to ride a water ride?

FYI, "Dan riding a water ride" was an Elissa bingo square. When, he found out we caught him, what did Dan do?

He got out of line and didn't ride to negate the bingo square! :)

Didn't get many good pictures of The Old Mill. But what's this I see?

Moving on now. This is a ferris wheel.

You have officially been Whipped!

Yay for Devo! Yay for Stabland!

You knew someone was going to use the Devo reference right? It was just bound to happen.

The ride really turned out to be insane, as demonstrated by the following reactions...

CYW_0525.JPG.ea3c00ebd0911a55c4e6279ac40b2557.JPG

Awwww. No one wanted to ride with Jason. :(

And there off! So far, so good for G.J. and Matt.

Stretching is a must before any ride on the Whip.

Erik is preparing for the worse.

I have no clue what Richard is doing except perhaps pointing at the number 9?

Now it is time for probably the most infamous ride at Rye's: The Whip!

CYW_0508.JPG.51f41758ad30a11b0367b4a717b31dad.JPG

Stabland did have a lot of flat rides to choose from.

CYW_0512.JPG.603489b60d491b558cfe3b0a52ebaae0.JPG

Here is the mirror maze I mentioned in my highlights. It was literally about 20 feet of just following one path. At least, the one at Morey's Piers had a slide at the end.

CYW_0505.JPG.c2589aabfb13309fa2d821e20ecc2fb9.JPG

Speaking of Zombie Castle, I thought it was cool how the building of the ride went underneath the structure of Dragon Coaster.

CYW_0503.JPG.7ba7465b836e24c73920e9b01fee47bd.JPG

Dark ride time! I don't remember the name of this one, but I think I preferred this one over Zombie Castle.

CYW_0502.JPG.b0cced1e9761e3fd82420d31c2e332be.JPG

Let's see what else the park has to offer. We didn't ride a single pirate ship on the entire trip.

CYW_0499.JPG.1c272235b133d1113efeae86a801fd4a.JPG

It really was a nice place to hang out, especially at sunset.

After dinner, we decided to check out the Hudson River. Yep, there it is.

You know, I go back and forth on this one as well. It really has great potential with some beautiful facilities and such. The Whip was incredible..the best on the trip. And the coaster was pretty cool. I mean you got to go in the mouth of a dragon and get pooped out the other side, what's not cool about that?!?

The ride ops were not a happy crowd, and I think the guy with all of the rules right at the beginning with the coaster set everyone off with a bad initial perception of the park. I mean they asked that we go there for them to do some filming as well...and then the attendants were just really short and to the point of being rude. I imagine with the clientele being the crowd it was, it does get old working with people...but that's where a heads up from management to their own people would have been a good thing. Let them know that they needed a positive response from our crowd, so maybe smile every now and then.

Anyway, I loved the setting. The boardwalk, the flat rides, and the company...so I enjoyed the experience overall. I probably won't go back on my own, but I'm glad that I got to experience Rye. (It's also just kind of fun to call it Stabland...I'm sure there were a few box cutters around at all time though..so I think it still earned its new nickname!)

BTW just to clarify the car #9 on the whip... It was the one that had a couple in it the ride before and every time it whipped around the end the car was practically airborne. It was absurd to see... I mean it went up on one wheel and somehow careened around the corner before crashing to a halt just before screaming around the next end. I don't know how it was possible and it didn't seem to happen the following rides.

I really loved Rye's rides... They were really a great collection of classics. I wish more parks kept these around. Sadly the coasters weren't all that I was hoping... Especially when the previous day had been so great.

I really need to get down there. Matt and I drove right by it on the way down to meet you guys at SFGAdv. (Somehow i managed to come home a slightly different way while the navigator was sleeping and didn't go by it). I love whips. They are probably my favorite flat ride ever, maybe with the exception of Bouncey Bouncey, Jason, you wouldn't have ridden alone had we been there.

I thought that was you at Great Adventure. I think we actually rode in the same car on Dark Knight during morning ERT.

Rye's is definitely worth a trip in my opinion. Like Kerry said, we hit the park on a very crowded night. I really do think the angry man at the Dragon set the tone for most people.

It's quite possible that we rode with/behind you. I know I recognized the guy we rode with, but now, i can't seem to recall who it was. Unfortunately, because we were only there for a day, we really only hung out with people I already knew from other trips.

As I mentioned at the end of the previous update, it is time to play a game!

The Denzel Washington Movie Reference Game!

Okay, here’s the deal. Back in January, Candace and I went to Disney World. While we were watching the Stunt show at DHS, I kept seeing obvious references to Denzel Washington movies hidden in the show. For example, you had the stunt man falling off the building (Fallen) and the stunt man that was set on fire (Man on Fire). I decided right then that this might make a fun game for a trip report. So, I ended up making a list of movies I could use for the East Coast Trip and during the trip I looked for pictures which would match a movie on the list. It turned into a picture scavenger hunt and it was a lot of fun to do!

Rules of the Game

I will post 10 pictures taken during the trip. In each picture, there will be a hidden reference to a Denzel Washington movie. Post your answers here and let's see how well everyone knows their Denzel Washington movies!

#4 Has to be John Q...

You see why I wanted your picture? It was perfect for that!

Picture #5 Is Out of Time.

Actually Picture #7 looks like it can be He Got Game.

Both are correct guesses.

1- Philadelphia

2 - Crimson Tide

3 - Ricochet (i had the most difficulty with this one)

4 - John Q

5 - Out of Time

6 - Malcolm X

7 - He got game

8 - Bone collector

9 - Man on Fire

10 - Fallen

You got 10/10!

Thanks for humoring me there guys.

I am hoping to have SFGAdv up tomorrow night, so we will get this PTR back on track.

Very cool game, Eric! I love movies, Denzel, and it's still theme park related as well....Scene It, TPR Edition...I'd buy that one, or at least be excited if it was in the bag of crap!!

Looking forward to the rest of the update!
