Day 2 – Part 3: Lake Compounce

A very short drive from Quassy and we were at the final park for Day 2. Lake Compounce turned out to be the biggest surprise on the trip for me. I had researched the park a little beforehand, so I knew it would be fun, but it really exceeded my expectations.

I loved everything about the park from the relaxing “small park” atmosphere to the excellent collection of rides. The night-time ERT on Boulder Dash was one of my favorite moments of the entire trip. The ride-op we got was hilarious! I believe everyone on the trip agreed that the park picked the right guy to deal with our craziness. The best part about the ride for me was that it seemed to gain speed all the way until the end. The setting of the ride really helped add to the experience, especially at night when you couldn’t see anything but trees and wooden track. Going through the transition to the new GCI track was like hitting a patch of ice in a car. Smooth, but out of control!

Highlights for the rest of the park:

- Fun, if not corny shooting dark ride

- Getting denied my first kiddie credit

- Free soda!

- Relaxing in front of the lake with new friends at dinner

- Fried Bats!

On to the pictures…

Boulder Dash ERT was an awesome end to an amazing day! Rye's Playland up next!

Do you think TPR enjoyed Boulder Dash?

Walking up to the station, no one knew that they were about to have their face rocked off!

One more flat ride photo and it's time to ride...

Okay, enough of that. On to some pictures of rides that aren't made by Vekoma.

It had a boomerang.

So far, I have pretty much ignored the fact that the park had a boomerang.

After relaxing by the lake, it was time to check out some more of the park.

And some great views of Boulder Dash off in the distance.

Not to mention, it offered these lovely views of the Lake Compounce.

How about some dinner? We kind of wandered on to this place and it turned out to be pretty decent.

We will ride you later tonight. Notice that you can see where the GCI track begins in this picture.

Speaking of Boulder Dash...

DSCN3984.JPG.0f3cb34ff9791ca0bf4fa5f1a08efe28.JPG

So, lets bring everybody up to date so far.

Ghost hunting, happy Wank, rabid cats, free pepsi, and look...the park isn't very crowded!

I love this place! (and we haven't been on Boulder Dash yet)

DSCN3976.JPG.1559fc4f39913558861b7e90e90e9e00.JPG

After a slight back adjustment on Wildcat, we were surprised to find out that the park offered free Pepsi!

DSCN3970.JPG.2342fd1607447fe7965855ef35c3cd97.JPG

One more Wildcat for good measure.

DSCN3983.JPG.a09cace0014c5c94624792353df5a26a.JPG

Wildcat was a little on the rough side except for these two amazing bunny hops at the end.

The other wooden coaster in the park was evidently sponsored by a rasta Garfield with rabies.

Wait! Is Mike Austin actually enjoying the ride?!?

This was the best flat ride of the entire trip solely based on the name:

DSCN3954.JPG.962dbbb0c25e004653756be605c5cca4.JPG

Here are the little cars you rode in. The trick to this ride was to ride in the back seat, wait until you left a room, and then turn around and shoot all the targets behind you repeatedly.

Some company must have a monopoly on these signs in the northeast because that Go-Gurt ad was on about every park map sign.

After having a little trouble finding the entrance to the park, we have made it to our third park of the day, Lake Compounce!

Seriously, this was my favorite day of the trip! Boulderdash ERT was amazing and goes down as the best ERT I've had. Yes, that's right, its better than Phoenix, though that was amazing in itself.

Wildcat should be burned to the ground. Taylor and Trent kept saying how horrible and painful the very back seat was so Jenn and I decided to ride it since we like it a bit rough. Well, at the beginning of the ride we decided to lie and say it was awesome no matter how horrible it was. After the first drop you just heard Jenn screaming, "I can't lie, its freaking horrible, oh my god." I couldn't stop laughing the whole time!

ahhh sweet sweet Boulder Dash! My new number 1 woodie! Im going back in October to ride it before they neuter it!

I would love to be able to ride Boulder Dash again before add the trims! After doing that update, it really stirred up some memories of how great that thing was running for us!

It really is a tough call on what was my favorite ERT session. It's a three-way race between Boulder Dash, Lightning Racer, and Phoenix. I'll probably do a summary at the end of this update, so maybe I will have a winner by then.

Finally some pics of me slipped into someones camera...

I do love the second pic of Mike Austin on the swing... I can't really describe the expression on his face but it is pretty funny. I'm trying to figure out what his hair is doing as well...

I definitely agree that the top 3 ERTs were Boulder Dash, Lightning Racer, and Phoenix. So many great moments and they were all truly parties unlike most of the ERT sessions.

Just "OK" TR of Lake Compounce...not enough pics of me

Sorry about that! I'll make it up to you with the Rye's Playland update, how does that sound?

That is what you call happiness. A rarerly seen emotion I know. Okay, that is the last Mike joke I swear!

not to mention the ride op working on his birthday to make our night even better.

I completely forgot it was his birthday! Does anyone remember his name? He told Robb he wanted to sign up for a trip next year.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad you are enjoying the pictures so far.

I love this little park, which is why I am starting to think of it as my home park rather than SFNE. Nice report.

The key to wildcat is to ride in the middle of the car (aka not over a wheel). It makes the ride much more tolerable.

I think his name was...JACKASS! I don't know about anyone else, but I thought he was a bit annoying! If it wasn't for him grandstanding and telling us all about his birthday, we would've all gotten 3 more rides I'd say!

I didn't notice him being annoying during ERT. During the time he was talking about his birthday, I don't think they had the O.K. to start the session yet. I know we were waiting on that one ride-op, I think her name was Kim or Kerry, to come up to the station. After the session started, I didn't pay attention to anything he said because it was all about Boulder Dash then.

Ha, as awesome as he was, the woman doing restraints on Talon was even better, the best ERT op IMO. The woman who stapled with all of her might, haha, she was so cool. Loved her, had a great laugh with her "Staple me! C'mon, I KNOW there's another click in there somewhere!". Haha, brilliant. Have a feeling it was only Luke and me that appreciated her, haha, everyone else just seemed to loathe the stapling.

Day 3 – Six Flags New England and Rye’s Playland

We returned to Six Flags New England on Day 3, but this time armed with Gold Q-bots! Morning ERT once again featured S:ROS, as well as Pandemonium and Flashback. After that, we pretty much had open reign to a busy Six Flags park on a Saturday in August. It was amazing to be able to ride S:ROS twice in 15 minutes with the queue being over 2 hours! We didn’t take any pictures of the park this time, because we had gotten enough the previous day. So, on to the next park.

Rye’s Playland was the “surprise park” for this trip. It would serve a similar purpose as Coney Island did on Day 1. We had a long drive from SFNE to our hotel near SFGadv, so Rye’s help break up the long bus ride. As for the park, I'll just say it wasn't my favorite. They did have a good wooden coaster, but the family flyer was not very good. I am not a fan of the restraints at all. Your shins are basically resting on metal bars. How is that a good idea?

Here are some of the highlights of the park:

- A nice collection of dark rides

- Dragon coaster was a big surprise

- The mirror "maze"

- Watching everyone get their butt kicked on the Whip

We didn't end up riding very much, but instead we took a lot of pictures. So, that means I will have to break this up into two separate updates.

More Rye's Playland to come!

With their approval, it was time for another TPR takeover of a kiddie coaster!

Robb and Elissa were brave enough to test the waters for everyone else.

In case you didn't know the name, they placed it on every car to make sure.

Huge bonus points for the dragon tunnel. So, its not just a clever name.

I didn't know what to expect from this one, but it turned out to be a good ride and rather lengthy.

The angry man who scanned everyone's wristband made it very clear that you had to get lockers.

Jason, I totally forgot about the height restriction on the mouse. Even though I'm not 6'', apparantly when you go up there, they count a small platform as part of your total height.

Eric and Candace, great pics again! The Derby was definitely a long ride, especially with the really nice ride op yelling at us to keep leaning in.

Haha, that height restriction was hilarious! Jake and Luke were SO obviously over it, but by bending over to "scan our wristbands" and engaging in small talk about bling, we managed to get on. Still, smacked my head getting out in the station, haha!

Loving the PTR, although far too much Stabland and too much Kiddie Coaster we broke and quickly exited from, haha!
