Photo and Video TR: Behemoth Tour and More

Erik,

Great trip report so far! The Old Mill was an interesting ride but seemed to have way too much dead space. I kept thinking something would happen in some of those dark, long corridors, but you would just go on to another scene.

It was a pleasure to meet you, wish you could of stuck around longer.

Me too, I wish I could have hung around for the whole thing, but I had to return home for work.

EDIT: Oops I accidently edited your post instead of quoting it. Its now back to normal.

I thought the same thing, but they did have some pretty cool scenes. And also, did your boats come to a complete stop at one point? We got stuck turning one of the corners and had to rock the boat to get it going again.

Looks like you guys had a great time after the Behemoth trip!

Too bad I couldn't tag along, but money was tight..

Thanks for the awesome Trip Report!

Oh, and the coverage of the dark rides is awesome!

It's to bad that the most unique part of parks usually gets forgotten!

I had to leave the trip early since I had to be back at work the next day, but what better way to finish off with my favorite Six Flags park, Six Flags Great Adventure. Unfortunately I was not feeling well at all that day for whatever reason so I was not able to ride as much as I would have liked to. At least I forced myself to ride El Toro and Nitro as there was no way I could ever pass them up. I also managed to earn a new credit as well, since the Dark Knight opened up a few months ago. While my photos from SFGadv are very sparse, I did add a section of photos that details my prizes that I won from Dave's Elissa Photo Bingo game. Thanks Dave!

This is the last installment of photos from the trip, but I will post a huge update with park/coaster opinions very soon.

Wow....So it is true. Dave's music really does melt your Ipod.

It is a mix of Mariachi music with electric guitars with Opera style singing. Thanks Dave!! :)

Let us see how this one is.

OK, that was not too bad.

Ok, let us first try this one.

Yes, it is a long title for a playlist.

I first had to create a playlist.

I also won a collection of Dave's music. Let us check it out.

In honor of Dave's finally earning his Batman: The Ride credit, I decided to post this as well.

We had early morning ERT on the Dark Knight coaster. Yes, the reviews have been pretty much correct.

As some of you may know, I like to post all my photos first then do a recap with park opinions/coasters/other rides at the very end.  Let us start with:

Seabreeze. I really thought it was a nice smaller sized park which was really great to start the trip off with.  I does have a pretty descent collection of flat rides that includes a Screaming Eagle, Flyers, Musik Express.  There are four coasters there, but I was only able to earn three of them since you needed to have a kid to ride Bear Trax.  Ok onto the coasters.  As I rate each coaster the number placed in front is my credit counter.

seabreeze40_629.jpg.7e19cb2ce04bf929f772ddb82a0da02b.jpg

#248 Bobsleds (AKA Bobselds). It used to be a kiddie wooden coaster years ago, but they turned it into a weird steel/wooden coaster hybrid. I guess you can say its like an east coast Matterhorn....well maybe not. It was kind of fun.

DSC05349.JPG.a93bee8ea59e38dae2dddbe5362fd52a.JPG

#247 Whirlwind.  This was my first Maurer Sohne Spinner coaster.  I thought it was a lot of fun, especially backwards.  These are much better than a standard spinning mouse.

DSC05345.JPG.dcddd84fe7ec4fe9722ace66df5086df.JPG

#246 Jack Rabbit.  First coaster of the trip, and it was a fun medium sized old school woodie with a few pops of air.  It is the third oldest coaster in the country, and yes it does have a tunnel.

Darien Lake.

I too thought this was a nice park. I guess the new management has really put into a lot of effort of cleaning the place up. It does have a pretty good collection of coasters as well a nice collection of rare flat rides. They also have a Fascination parlor which is always a huge plus. I had to lift a few photos from the official TPR update since I did not have the photos myself. I was able to earn all the coaster credits except for Brain Teaser since you needed to be with a kid to ride it.

darienlake_07.jpg.a6e508b5b59f00ebc9cf13d6140c8228.jpg

#254 Viper. Arrow Customer Looper. The restraint was down a bit to tight on my ride so my ride was not the very best. It's honestly nothing too special.

darienlake_39.thumb.jpg.3d9497b604bf20a5fcb267490736b8de.jpg

#253 Mind Eraser. The first of three Vekoma SLC's that I rode on the trip. It was pretty bad, near the bottom of all SLCs I have ridden so far.

darienlake_06.jpg.a8facd8fa4982672314bb4acf810f062.jpg

#252 Boomerang Coast to Coaster. Its the first of four Vekoma Boomerangs that I rode on the trip. While not bad for a boomerang, I really am not much of a fan of these coasters.

DSC05370.JPG.a030b5def6660341084b73a379035edf.JPG

#251 MotoCoaster. It is a Zamperla MotoCoaster. It was the first one I have ridden and all I can say about it is, "Cute."

darienlake_13.jpg.7031b95e69f1db2e3e0a2238e9be7e24.jpg

#250 Predator. It is a Dinn wooden coaster. I did not care much for it at all due to some of the jackhammering. I should say that it was not the worst wooden coaster on the trip.

darienlake_26.jpg.adadb403bae3ed6452f0771a3c933170.jpg

#249 Ride Of Steel. Its the first Intamin Mega Coaster built and it was running really well the day we were there. While our morning rides were good, its even better in the afternoon. Top 10 Steel for me.

Martin's Fantasy Island.

Another nice smaller sized park. They opened the 2nd Star Flyer in the country this year which proved to be an interesting experience. They do have an assortment of flats as well. The Log Flume is a must do if you are into getting yourself soaked.

DSC05384.JPG.52c356764cf63250e770cf0dffffe412.JPG

#256 Crazy Mouse. Zamperla Spinning Mouse. Elissa really enjoed this one because the coaster forgot to spin. Seriously we faced the same direction for the whole second section of the ride.

DSC05393.JPG.59c1ab8f5cbfbb12875a98147a4ab759.JPG

#255 Silver Comet. CCI Wooden Coaster. Its pretty insane and a blast to ride. It has a few good moments of airtime as well as some extreme laterals.

Canada's Wonderland.I think its the nicest/cleanest of all the former Paramount Parks.  Well, I still need to visit Great America in California.  While the park is really nice, they really do have one the most mediocre collection of coasters on the planet.  At least they have a huge selection of rare flat rides to make up for this.  I did not get to ride Taxi Jam because you need a kid to ride it.  I also do not count powered coasters as a credit so I did not include Thunder Run (Which was a lot of fun).  I did have to use other people's photos for some of the coasters since I did not have them.  I hope that you do not mind as I do give you proper credit...at least I think I did.

#264 Silver Streak. Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster.  I have ridden this model at many other places, but I think this might be the best one so far.  (Photo from rcdb.com)

DSC05425.JPG.87e8650033aea1f83f0d52885f1e639f.JPG

#263 SkyRider Togo Standup Coaster.  I hate Togo Standup Coasters.  That is all I can say.

canadaswonderland_09_151.jpg.c2bff6be7375bbcab0b3ddc9a7087792.jpg

#262 Bat. Vekoma Boomerang. Pretty standard Boomerang with new paint.  Why do these things make me dizzy?

DSC05407.JPG.b1c687f452e78a1bc61c562c92ca3b57.JPG

#261 Fly. Mack Wild Mouse.  Ite pretty good with a custom layout.  At least I think its a custom layout.

DSC05403.JPG.73c283fdeeef457d4744cc0d2d1bb885.JPG

#260 Flight Deck. Vekoma SLC.  Maybe not quite as bad as SFA's Mind Eraser or T2 at SFKK, but pretty darn close.

canadaswonderland_02_901.jpg.29b15d70f0ed9a1a8cd5120e0096772c.jpg

#259 Time Warp. Zamperla Flying Coaster.  Oh dear, this thing scared me.  I am not a real fan of these coaster cars, but it was fun chasing after it in the loading station.

DSC05417.JPG.6b7bf4588b34eb33cf26b6cb76e02e02.JPG

#258 Behemoth. B&M Hyper.  REALLY GREAT!  I was impressed as this is now my new favorite B&M Hyper coaster.  Lots of floating airtime on this thing as well as forces.

CanadasWonderlandTPR079.jpg.8025106170091c5a104364219196e7fb.jpg

#257 Back Lot Stunt Coaster.  Premier Launched Family.  With this I now have finished the Italian/Back Lot Trinity.  Its a real shame that many of the effects no longer works on these rides.  (Speeddeamon128)

p13083.jpg.a0edca381f6cabe44f41fc73a3a5fff4.jpg

#269 Mighty Canadian Minebuster.  PTC Wooden Coaster.  I did not hate it as much as others did, though its pretty average. (rcdb.com)

CanadasWonderland004.jpg.a8824732cc0c80f92ee133264ceef701.jpg

#268 Vortex. Arrow Suspended Coaster.  Those who know me know that I love these coasters, and this one is one of the best.  It also has great atmosphere as well.(Speedeamon128)

CanadasWonderlandTPR020.jpg.190ed1e4c4aa32c5cc30e6cbed3128ad.jpg

#267 Dragon Fire. Arrow Custom Looper.  What a strange coaster, especially how shallow the first drop is as well as the long stretch of track before the first loop.  For whatever reason you do go through the double corkscrew really fast so that section was pretty good. (Speeddeamon128)

CanadasWonderlandTPR025.jpg.bb8b1ed880b2c7b5060433111545113d.jpg

#266 Wild Beast. PTC Wooden Coaster.  Wow was this really bad.  You now you are in trouble when the coaster car steps up to the lift hill.  Worst wooden coaster of the trip. (Speeddeamon128)

DSC05432.JPG.7eb49b1c99e02bd3c6967a9a1ec8e5ce.JPG

#265 Scooby's Gasping Ghoster Coaster. PTC Family Wooden.  They are all the same, its a good one for kids.

Marineland. Marineland was certainly a strange park. It really seems that they were way too ambitious when they first opened the park as that have an enormous amount of land space to work with in the park. Even after all these years, they still have a lot of empty space between attractions which makes walking a bit on the difficult side if you happen to be really out of shape. But they do have Dragon Mountain.......and yes I am such a fanboy for this coaster.

marineland17_106.jpg.eef64df803b7f01638fae951944edf0d.jpg

#271 Lady Bug Coaster. Zierer Kiddie Coaster. What can I really say about this one?

DSC05481.JPG.6dfa6b8d4a0d95aa3f9b0eba4b11ca32.JPG

#270 Dragon Mountain. The Ultimate Arrow Custom Looper. It is simply a must ride as its the strangest Arrow coaster ever built. Its certainly one of the most ambitious coasters (in terms of theming and layout) attempted, so its too bad that even after 25 years its still not finished. At least the coaster crew maintains the ride well.

Love your work Jiggidy Johnson.

Rye Playland, more like Rye Gunplayland, I was always on guard to be attacked there. As one of the people denied the wild mouse credit on height grounds (crikey, I'm only 6'3"), I feel vilified and suspect there was some profiling going on as other people much taller then me were being let on (white heterosexual male, the most vilified group of all). Shame you missed the Deal or No Deal session, which was hilarious.

Six Flags New England, egads Superman was running like an old woman in a zimmer frame in the morning, glad you captured my moment of glory riding Superman solo before you all showed up, I felt like I was in that South Park episode where Cartman buys the amusement park.

Waldameer, that was the dictionary definition of fun, Ravine Flyer II at night, it was like being on a go-kart to hell going 60mph.

After you left the trip I won an award for being the biggest male credit whore (Elissa won the female category). I think I am not worthy, it's not like I give a toothless carny a BJ to ride a dragon wagon, and I refused to get any abduct a kid to ride coaster credits on this trip as well (maybe if there had been a single MILF handy to chat up maybe I would have changed my tune). If I'm Anakin then you are Obi Wan (no you are Yoda), Erik, you've got the Little Titans credit - that is true mastery on the credit whore front.

One of the most interesting things was answering where are they now on so many artists and bands who were once big. Peter Frampton at Busch Gardens, Survivor were playing somewhere (the lyrics to Eye of the Tiger are where I find most of my guidance in life) and so on. Sad but interesting.

Also Natasha Bedingfield at Rye Playland (I would have been front row, drooling). Alter Bridge (who totally rock) were at Darien Lake.

I wish we had longer at Marineland, I could have run a marathon in that park, I said to the PR lady they so should do fun runs.

Awesome thread Erik, I keep hearing so many good things about this trip, it's great that everybody had such a good time. I've been away from a steady connection to the internet for the past couple of weeks, so it's good to catch up on what you thought since I did many of the same parks.

Also Natasha Bedingfield at Rye Playland (I would have been front row, drooling).

I was actually there that night with a couple other forum members. It was raining pretty heavily, so we opted out of Natasha in favor of night rides on Superman at SFNE. We were all pretty disappointed that we missed the show, haha

Time to add a few more reviews to this thread. The next park was Waldameer which ended up being my favorite park on the trip. ERT on Ravine Flyer II was really insane. It was pretty freaky to be on the front row heading up the lift hill when the heavens decided to soak us with rain. I should also note that Lake Erie was being lit up by continual lightning. I really liked the Wacky Shack as well as the Pirate's Cove walkthrough.

1610922183_waldameer47_2131.jpg.27a723fe46f66e1dc4bc7075ebcf0dc1.jpg

#275 Ravine Flyer II. Gravity Group Woodie. Its my new favorite Gravity Group Woodie. This thing just is amazingly intense, especially at night in pouring rain. It makes it into my top 5 wooden coaster list.

waldameer26_969.jpg.eac28e1ba533f5fbcba730f64cc773cd.jpg

#274 Ravine Flyer 3. Miller Kiddie. While the actual coaster is average, I was really amazed how the whole coaster is over water. This includes the loading station.

waldameer41_430.jpg.2de2374bca6277d382ca42f18e876e91.jpg

#273 Comet. PTC Woodie. A fun family wooden coaster which is surrounded by trees. The setting was nice, but the coaster was pretty average.

waldameer32_130.jpg.a66b3689712432f730b6a7cc9182cffa.jpg

#272 Steel Dragon. This was the second Maurer Shone Spinner coaster on the trip. While fun I preferred the one at Seabreeze.

Idlewild was the nicest park on the trip, and its my 2nd favorite park on the trip. Its really kind of reminded me of a smaller sized Knoebels, which is a really good thing. They have an assortment of rare rides/attractions that include the amazing caterpillar, Vekoma Mouse, decent flyers, adult hand-carts, Mister Rogers Ride, and Confusion Hill.

idlewild26_210.jpg.2ac593bf5435d52684539f9bb138e1ec.jpg

#277 Rollo Coaster. PTC Woodie. Another nice family wooden coaster in another awesome setting. Yes, I do have a thing for coasters surrounded by trees.

idlewild51_338.jpg.20f91921612305f9662e1ec896e9738b.jpg

#276 Wild Mouse. Vekoma Mouse. It is the only mouse coaster that Vekoma built and it is a lot of fun. It does beat you up a little bit, but isn't that part of the fun?

Lakemont Park. It is basically a fair type park, but there is nothing wrong with that! The world's oldest roller coaster is located here, Leap The Dips. I found it to be a lot of fun, especially since there are absolutely no restraints. Everyone was denied on the kiddie coaster.

DSC05530.JPG.4ecdf2f9429edb88ea079d50f9b3f3c5.JPG

#280 Skyliner. PTC Woodie. This thing beat me up a bit. I feel sorry for anyone who dares to ride in the back row. You do get some violent airtime on it, but it does hurt.

1219319661_behemothlastday_31__0001.jpg.7d95d2fa0167da49a5a99f46ba736951.jpg

#279 Leap The Dips. Oldest Coaster in the World! I cool little side friction coaster. I thought it was a lot of fun, for what it is. You do get little pops of air, especially in the back row. Which can be fun since there is nothing holding you in the car.

#278 Toboggan. Chance Toboggan. Call me weird but I sort of like these things. Though this one had no padding on the roof of the car. (Speeddemon128)

Skyliner nearly broke my spine when I rode it in the back row. I think it hit a pothole halfway through the course, and I felt the shock of the impact all the way up my back.

Great TR Erik, I like how you sum up the coasters at the end.
