Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

Just a thought, this coaster looks great! But I have a feeling Behemoth's airtime may be better just for the fact that Diamondback has only 2 airtime hills that are high, behemoth on the other hand has 4, and behemoth sort of assault's you one after the other with airtime. Just my opinion.

The other coasters are not walk-on. It's not slammed, but they had an hour wait posted for the Beast.
I heard Firehawk was like 2 hours too...Seems like a lame day to be at the park.

Damn! But I guess that makes sense, since I'm guessing there weren't many re-rides on DB today.

Would a Monday in June be a good time to get to KI? There is a good chance I'll be making a Sunday-Tuesday trip to KI in June. Sunday drive to the park, Monday spend all day at KI, Tuesday go back to KI just to get credits that I might have missed the day before/drive home. It looks like Diamondback will be my first stop since the lines will be huge. I rode Behemoth last year & it is my #2 steel coaster behind Millennium Force. The airtime is AMAZING on it I'm really looking forward to riding DB this summer along with the 14 credits at KI.

I ended going on it 2 times today. The first time was during ERT and I was off by 9:45. I sat in seat 7-1 and I was somewhat disappointed with the ride. There was not two much airtime and it just felt slow. The second time I went on we started waiting in the middle of Nick Universe. It took just a little over an hour. We sat in the back this time and it was a MUCH better ride. I also loved that in the back you can reach your hand around and touch the water. Overall it is a great ride but the trims were on WAY to hard.

I was wondering about that. With some of the B&M hypers I've noticed drastic differences from row to row. Though I remember Goliath SFOG delivering in almost every seat and first thing in the morning.

It's also possible that Diamondback ran a little bit better after it got warmed up. We're going back Friday for some more rides.

Overall it is a great ride but the trims were on WAY to hard.

That really irritated me as well. Opening day and a three hour wait only to have two sucky trims right in a row.

We ended up riding it four times today. The morning rides were definitely more sluggish than the afternoon rides. I'll say this, it really grew on me. Overall, I think it is a great ride and a wonderfully SMART addition to Kings Island.

While not the most intense or airtime-filled coaster I've ever been on, I have to say that it was really fun. The whole Rivertown area is transformed with the addition of Diamondback.

The lines were crazy -- at one point, it went all the way through Nick Universe, around by the Eiffel Tower and circled back by the Beast entrance. However, the longest we waited was probably around 90 minutes. So, it wasn't too awful.

Congrats, Kings Island!!

I got in 2 rides today and thought it was a great coaster and great addition to the park overall, however I didn't like it as much as Goliath at sfog or Apollos Chariot, but I did enjoy it more than Raging Bull. Great airtime on the first drop but the rest if the layout was a little uninspiring. Anyone notice or know why the lift supports were yellow and the rest of the rides were tan ish? I thought the yellow looked kinda bad but the tan was great. Lines moved really well today too, so that's a plus. Good ride. Kings Island isn't just a credit run anymore!!! Haha

Seems to me that the park let the ride run "all out" for media day, and then watered it down (just like every other B&M hyper) for opening day. The reviews between the two days are like night and day. I heard reviews from media day describing the airtime as "ejector in every row" and now the airtime is just blah and the ride is slow. Oh well. That's what Magnum is for.

I think I remember reading somewhere that KI wanted the lift hill to stand out and strike people as being "massive" and "intimidating," while the rest of the layout is "hidden."

The reviews sound pretty good overall so far. Just gets me more excited to ride it! And the air-time looks great (from what I can see) in the reverse POV's. I hope that line won't be that extreme on a weekend in June, but I'll wait 5 hours for Diamondback if I have to.

My brother and I got to the park at 8:00 a.m. around 8:45 a.m. Kings Island opened International Street up to the Starbucks. Around 9:45, they started to escort Plantium and gold pass members to diamondback. Man, it was packed, with pass holders. lol. We finally ended up next to the starbucks until we finally got to ride at 10:50 p.m. and got free t-shirts as well.

Everything had a line today from Reptar to even Adventure Express. We got one more ride in at Diamondback in the afternoon. It was only a 30 minute wait so I was glad about that. I liked Diamondback and thought it was well built coaster.

P.S.

It appears Nick is on it way out if the 50% sales are indication at all of the stores at the park. I hope that it is not snoopy universe next year. I want Hannna Barbara Land back.

^It's like any other B&M splashdown. The riders do not get wet. And the splashdown pool is way below the midway. So, the spectators don't get wet either.

Actually, a "part" of you does get wet. Yesterday, I took several spins in the last coach/back seat(s) and every time my elbow -- whichever one was on the outside -- got soaked. It's rather minimal considering the size of that rooster tail wave. I'm just sayin' ...

How many different videos and pictures of the line are going to be posted... I don't see why people are shocked that the line for a giant new coaster, probably the best new ride to open in the area for over a decade, is long on opening day (which happens to be one of the nicest days we've had all year on top of all this) One word sums it up: DUH! I'll ride it in a few weeks, but glad to hear it's a decent ride.

I think because in other areas of the country, new rides don't get lines like that. For example I rode The Dark Knight on the 5th day it was open at Great Adventure, I waited 25 minutes. I rode Voodoo a few weeks after it opened, I had a 5 minute wait. Even Fahrenheit that I rode in August was an hour, which was a long wait by me. So when I hear people talking about only 2 or 3 hours for Diamondback or how it was a 6 hour wait, it just seems amazing to see that type of line and people are actually willing to wait that long.

A quick and dirtyrecap, before the epic trek back to Minnesota.

I don't know what ride some of you were riding, but the two times I rode it (in rows 12 and 16) I was out of the chair on every drop. My new #1,nosing out Raging Bull. Keep in mind that I my list of coasters ridden is still missing a lot of the high-end coasters, but right now my Top 3 is DB, Bull, then the Tampa Trifecta and SFMM Goliath in some order.

Yes, the line was insane at it's peak. Coasterville and I arrived at 7:45 AM, and were in the line right at the backside of the Eiffel Tower. Got through the line in 2 hours on the peg.

Operations at D-back got better as the day went along. At one point, the line had shrunk to inside the temp pen. Even after the line grew back to the bathrooms, 55 mins-1:10 was pretty standard for that line. However, they were dreadful everywhere else. Beast's line didn't look too bad, but it was an hour all day while regularly having two trains sitting in the brakes. Top Gun was 40 minutes, SoB 45 minutes from the bottom of the ramp, FoF and Firehawk lines out the door all day until close to the end. Racer was the only thing with no line. I can't complain about the weather, but I kind of wished for crummy weather to keep the GP away.

My VF platinum pass didn't pull up my picture when scanned at the turnstiles. The clerk waved me through anyway, but Cameron W and the other VF passholders that came didn't get so lucky. They got sent to guest relations, where they waited 45 minutes to get the mess resolved. CF has got to work on this, as I plan on using my pass a lot away from Valleyfair.

One problem that was exposed right after I rode it was that the test seat is more forgiving than the actual train is. Several friends drew the green light at the test seat only to be rejected on the platform.

Overall, mostly good impressions about my first visit to KI. It actually reminded me a lot of Six Flags Chicago.

Where is there a second set of trims on the ride? Are you talking about the trims on the third hill and then the MCBR?

Or am I missing another set of 2 trim brakes?
