Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

p. 792 - Camp Cedar campground to open in 2021!

I'll never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever... (well you get the point) understand people who dog on Banshee, or specifically act like it lacks forces. My last rides on it in particular, just a couple of weeks ago, my feet actually were going numb by the end of the ride, usually a Batman hallmark. The ride pulls serious forces, and that's a simple fact. Maybe some don't like its spread out (read: unique and interesting) layout, compared to the Batman and Raptor Invert models, and that's fine, because opinions and preferences are for each, their own. But it's a forceful coaster, just like Millennium Force, and those denying it, are denying science, and physics, as my body a couple weeks ago can attest to.

I’ll admit Banshee is my least favorite B&M invert, and probably my least favorite B&M period.

It just didn’t “do anything for me.” I was so excited to have a “nice big forceful B&M invert with a unique layout.” And when I rode it I came off thinking.... “That was it? WTF is all the hype for?” - It is by NO means a “bad” coaster. To me it’s just... meh. Next please. I’ve literally had more forceful rides on all the Batman clones I’ve been on... and Black Mamba blows Banshee out of the water.

And while we are on the Banshee topic....

Wanted to loop back around to this now that I've ridden Banshee...Damn that ride is underwhelming. It looks great but than you get on it and it's like "wow it pulls...1.2 gs?" I mean Silver Bullet is kind of boring, but at least it has that awesome over bank. Banshee is the most disappointing B&M I've ridden.

This. 100% this. Glad I’m. It the only one that fees this way.

There’s just never an “OMG!! That was amazing!!” Experience on the coaster. It’s Just kinda.... there.

I don’t hate it, and I do ride it every time I’m at the park... However every experience has always been the same. I get off Banshee wanting... more,.

Don’t hate me! Just my personal opinion.

Well, I profoundly disagree with everything said by those who don't find Banshee forceful, or an awesome B&M Invert, and coaster in general, but at the end of the day, it's your opinion and experience. It delivers everything I personally want from a B&M Invert, and threw some nice new twists in there, and I'm grateful it's at an awesome park like KI, and somewhere I can go regularly! Makes up for Raptor being underwhelming these days, and occasionally not even ridden when I go to The Point!

Banshee feels nothing like any other B&M invert. It's surprisingly forceful but mainly at the bottom of the elements when it's pulling out of the drop. The elements themselves are all drawn out and very modern-B&Mish but it's still a lot of fun. Not everything can be Montu. There's no such thing as a B&M invert that isn't great.

The first drop in the back seat has some surprising airtime! It's not an element, but the sensation of speed at the bottom of the drop in the ravine between the zero g and the pretzel loop thing always catches me off gaurd. It's like, holy crap we shouldn't be going this fast on an invert!

This right here. I LOVE Banshee, and it is my favorite ride at Kings Island. It feels much more like a Wing coaster or Flyer than an Invert. I kind of rank it similarly to rides like Tatsu and GateKeeper than any old-school B&M Invert. It feels totally different.

Ya'll can hate on Banshee all you'd like. Shorter line for me. I love that ride.

I've heard that answer about them installing Christmas decorations going up being why the camera is down a couple of times, and it's certainly possible that's the case. However, it sure seems like they picked the absolute worst time they could have to put those decorations up, and take the camera down, and with almost three weeks still to opening weekend of Winterfest, there is plenty of time to put them up, where it won't interfere with the construction of the lift hill. As such, it seems to me, that for whatever reason, KI has decided to not make the construction of the lift hill available to people to view on the webcams. I can't speculate as to why, as it doesn't make any sense to me, but I do think it's a conscious decision on their part.

Let me also make it clear I don't personally care, as I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever looked at an amusement park webcam, and leave it to others to religiously follow roller coaster construction in general. It's fun to see progress pics as they go up, and are posted, but I can take them or leave them personally. I'm just commenting on this to point out that I don't think this is due to Winterfest prep, or an oversight on the park's part. I think it's an intentional decision by the park, for whatever reasons, which I will refrain from speculating on here. That's my perspective on this at least.

Now...

Feast your eyes on this hyper coaster:

#notmygiga

Space Odyssey music would or something have been more appropriate, but you know. Leave it to a Midwest city to ffck everything up just right. Not mad about it.

Okay... Can someone explain to me how this is not a “true giga?”

Not trying to be an ass here. I feel like I’ve missed something.... I’ve seen “fake giga,” or “not a real giga” a couple of times, and I’m confused!

Its a running joke since its not 300 feet tall. Its like 286 but with a 300 foot drop

Considering it's only 57 feet taller off the ground, the visual difference in height between Orion and Diamondback isn't going to look incredibly staggering, I'm certain. (That was even my thought seeing its construction of the lift and drop in person, although it wasn't topped off, so doesn't really count). Still, again, it's going to come down to the actual ride experience in the end, not the stats.

We'll have to see when the lift is all topped off and we can get right up close and personal with it. The overall diameter of the lift is more and the supports will be wider and more spread out. The lift may not be that much taller, but I think when it's topped off it will look larger and more imposing. Despite only 70 feet of height difference, Leviathan's lift looked much larger than Behemoth's lift. Although 20'ish feet shy from that example height difference, it should still have a similar affect.

With the TPR poll coming back to life, I'd love to know where everyone had Vortex at on their list and where they are rating it this year.

Vortex was in the bottom quarter of 300 something coasters among Cannonball at Lake Winnie, Iron Dragon, the Gerstlauer spinners.

Been #1 for me since I was 14 years old. I just don't get all the hate for old Arrows. Sure they are a little jerky, but I think it adds to the charm. I just don't get the same enjoyment out of a B&M looper as I do an arrow and I'm really gonna miss it. I know they can't all be saved but I think Vortex was the best of the big arrow loopers and was worth being preserved.
