Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

LOL I just found and watched a POV of that queue. WTF.

Isn't the Batman @ St Louis ridiculous also?

Yeah, because it was one of the first clones (1995), there are very few shortcuts. Back in the 90s, the queue was frequently out to the park section, it was fine. Now that it's a station wait at most unless you suck at planning which days to go the park, it's ridiculous. Great Adventure's park section is very compact and has skippable sections, but St. Louis' park section just meanders for a long while.

Boss and Mr. Freeze make a bit more sense considering that Mr. Freeze is in the middle of the rapids ride and that Boss' queue goes over the railroad and the go karts. Both of those do a bit of wandering but basically make their way fairly directly.

Seeing it on the map just makes it seem even more ridiculous that they're opening Zephyr and not the indoor, temperature controlled coaster right next to it.

It even seems like it would be pretty easy to set up some holiday "theming" in the building and rename it a la "mystic mine ride". Even if they used a couple of those cheesy christmas light laser projectors to put pictures on the walls of the building and play some festive music... Either way it seems like a missed opportunity.

I just find this entire thing really weird. This is no doubt a wonderful event for small kids but there's not much of anything for you to do if you're over the age of 9 or 10 except I guess ride Mystic Timbers like 800 times (slight exaggeration I suppose).

If they want to have a family event then that makes sense, but this is more of a small kids event that also happens to have a giant wood coaster running for some reason. By my count, the only other rides open that would appeal to older kids at all are the Scrambler, Dodgems and Swings. I suppose you could also argue Boo Blasters and the Gliders but they're in the kids area and marketed as kids rides. I hope this works out for them but I'm just confused.

Of their big coasters, Carowinds only had Afterburn open for their event. If I were a local, being able to ride that or Mystic Timbers would be great still in winter months though.

Yeah, but when you throw in the Troika, the Top Scan, the Wild Mouse, the Scrambler, the Sky Tower, the Himalaya, Boo Blasters and the Swings they've got a nice mix for basically any age group. At Kings Island, they seem really light on rides for anyone who's graduated from the kiddy area, even in terms of intermediate flat rides.

Yep. I'm going to pick a day to get there at 5, ride MT at opening and head out If the line doesn't get too long I'd love to ride it again, but there's nothing else they have to offer to keep me around. If they had a couple coasters open, I'm sure I'd have no problem getting a couple friends together and enjoying the park for a few hours.

I can't be aligned with thinking that they're keeping Flight of Fear closed due to the theme of the ride if they're going to have Boo Blasters on Boo Hill open.

^ I wasn't suggesting that they weren't running or shouldn't run Flight of Fear due to the theming. Sorry if it sounded that way. I agree with Bill that it seems silly not to run an indoor coaster, regardless of theming. I was only saying it seems like it would be easy to throw some intentionally cheesy Christmas theming at it and call it Flight to the North Pole or something.

Oh no not picking on your post at all. I thought it was funny that they're running Boo Blasters as is and yeah, they've got FoF right there that ...seems? like it could be open, right? No use wasting energy over trying to figure out if it's a staffing thing, demographic thing, or what it. I know it's the first Winterfest in _____ years, but I believe this event could be a lot more fun than it looks on paper.

^ I am thinking the same thing. If they get a lot of feedback for more rides to be open, I am sure that will be taken under consideration, but all of it is dependant on how much feedback they get as well as the attendance levels. It'll interesting to see how this first year will play out.

I'm with you on this... I was thinking of swinging by KI with my kids for Winterfest on the way back from Dollywood later this month, but after checking it out, and thinking about it more, I decided that what was actually open to ride, for the cost, wasn't really worth it. My kids are old enough that they want more thrills than just the kiddie area, so while they would enjoy some of what Winterfest had to offer, and would definitely love marathoning MT, for the cost, it just ended up being something I decided not to bother with...

  • 3 weeks later...

Season Pass Processing center is open the same hours as Winterfest, yay! I'm taking advantage of the free visit I get with the 2018 Plat Pass.

Single Rider lane is in place of the Fast Lane for Mystic Timbers and most reports said 30-60 minutes for Mystic Timbers after the first hour. Hoping when I go while they're open during the week I can get a handful of rides before it gets too busy.

^ They have 2 trains operating.

If there was one negative thing, it was the lack of rides. We overheard several comments about wanting more rides/coasters open.

I'm thinking that this year is a trial run for the park, and they may add more rides if they get the attendance.

The park did an amazing job with all the lights and decor. The fountain skating rink was very popular, and so were all the food offerings. It's crazy that they got all of this done in 2 weeks.

Some of the notable food offerings....

Cinniman bread

Blue hot chocolate

Ham and Turkey dinners

Funnel cakes with holiday toppings

Build your own Mac and cheese

Putain(sp) this was a bit disappointing. Instaed of cheese curds, they used a pinch of shredded mozzarella cheese.

You can decorate your own cookies as well. At first we were not going to do this because of the $14 price tag, but the price included 3 large cookies and all the decor you can put on them. The kids really enjoyed this.

The shows were top notch as well. We did not have high hopes for the shows going in, but we were blown away at how well they were done. The only thing with the shows is that it's hard to time the shows as they all start at 30 past the hour.

All in all, we had a great time and would highly recommend checking it out.
