So will it look like Stealth?

Yeah. That looks about right, except I think the release said it would be ORANGE track. Could be wrong though. Oh well, I'm really pumped for FireHawk, even if it ISNT the "good" flyer. I have always wanted to ride X-Flight, and now it's moved to my homepark with a kick ass name.

All the speculation was true — those giant neon green tubes in the parking lot are the skeleton of the X-flight ride that used to stand in the Aurora park. More than 300 pieces have been transported down I-71 on flatbed trucks since December.

Kings Island said the new ride is like none other at the park that boasts several one-of-a-kind rides. Marketing Director Maureen Kaiser said she has braved the thrill ride before, and it's awesome.

"You are sitting four across in the seat and have a shoulder holster and lap bar holding you in. The ride starts out and you are leaning back as you travel up 115 feet. You are facing the sky and going up backward, when you get to the top it turns over and you are facing the ground and go through five inversions at 50 m.p.h.," she said. "It really feels like you are flying. I've never felt anything like it before."

It takes about 2 1/2 minutes to jet through the half-mile track.

The Firehawk is going in next to and slightly behind the Flight of Fear. Work crews are setting up footings now and the ride assembly should begin soon. Kaiser said the ride takes up about five-and-a-half acres.

Sandusky-based Cedar Fair L.P. purchased Kings Island last summer and Kaiser said at the time they weren't sure whether they would get a new attraction this season. But their new parent is investing $10 million in the Mason park. The ride tear down and reassembly will eat up about three quarters of that capital budget and the rest was invested in the Son of Beast restoration and for a new show that will be introduced shortly. Greg Scheid, Kings Island's vice president and general manager, said he was thrilled with the new thrill ride.

"The addition of Firehawk reflects out commitment to combining one-of-a-kind thrills with fantastic family entertainment," Scheid said. "We're looking for some real thrill seekers who are ready and willing to fly. What a way to celebrate our 35th anniversary!"

I am sitting in my chair laughing at these comments. I dont normally respond- but give me a break people! My family dosnt have a “high” income- but we were able to enjoy KI 4 times last year. We bought 2 day passes both times and went on separate dates! We usually pack a cooler for lunch and each kid gets X amount of spending money as well as what they saved! Buy a refillable cup and your set! And guess what Rebecca- we go camping and swimming and all those other fun family things!

Just for the record: I am a single parent. I am not on welfare,I do not smoke, nor do I drink! I do have a job. For awhile I had 2 jobs to make ends meet. I am still unable to take my 2 teenage kids to KI. AND, sorry to say, but that would be their vacation! It’s a struggle to get them what they need on a daily basis!

Very disappointing. I now live in Columbus but, I grew up in Trenton and have been to KI many times. My wife has family near Cleveland and we have been to Geauga Lake several times as well. Now that Cedar Point owns both KI and Geauga Lake, instead of investing in new rides, they are going to scavange from one park and “invest” in the others. This does nothing but hurt those that enjoy the lower cost of Geauga Lake, forcing them to pay higher prices and travel further for the better rides

I rode that ride when it was at Geauga Lake and to say the least it scared the You know what outta me. I love Roller Coasters and have rode all of them at Cedar Point, but that hanging was not for me. My kids loved it! You all have a blast…

When I am in Dayton I try to take my family to Kings Island, to enjoy the many activities that are in demand. For those whom can’t afford the park try saving up for a family vacation and use the money for a family pass. Here in Virginia Busch Gardens charges you separatly for use of the water park and Busch Gardens. You should be so lucky to have both parks in one and only one fee, vice the two for separate parks as we do here in the Williamsburg, Virginia area. Mike Schlemmer Gloucester, VA.

Boy ‘B’ and ‘ha’ you have really turned this ride into your own little circus. I can afford to take my kids to KI, and I wish that they were tall enuogh to ride the new ride, because it is very much of a thrill ride! I hesitate to take them there now because I would hate for them to be exposed to the arrogance that is the two of you and, I’m assuming, your families. I’m so glad that your kids will remember how much money you spent on them! Hope the ride is a success KI!!

I wish my kids were tall enough to ride this ride, because it certainly is a thrill ride! As for you ‘B’, maybe it is just hard times for some and they really can’t afford it. It must be nice to sit and assume! Hopefully you will be able to get your foot out of your mouth without too many problems!

My family doesn’t ride thrill rides, but we will go to the park. It is not expensive compared to other attractions. The people on here who say they can’t afford it are just jealous. Don’t hate those of us who can! If you would get a job instead of take welfare, then you could go. Maybe you could get us tax payers to pay for your Kings Island tickets too. Get a job!!!

Not much of a thrill rider, however anytime KI steps up to make this local attraction even better is awesome. As for all those “poor” and “common” folks who state they cannot afford KI, cut back on your beer, cigarettes and fast food and then maybe you could spend the day with your family.

Wow!! Another wonderful ride that I won’t be able to ride! This one looks to be about a 3 hour wait if you got the patience. I know I don’t.

This ride looks very similar to the Raptor at Cedar Point. That is one of their best rides in my opinion. Should be a great addition to K.I.

Looks a lot like the Raptor at Cedar Point. I think that is one of the best rides there. Should be a welcome addition to King’s Island.

Dog! It’s “the” highway and a semi “which” not “who”. Judging by your comment, Grammar isn’t your only shortcoming. Rebecca… Have you ever been to Kings Island? You can go to the waterpark and spend all day “talking” to your kids. (As if they really think that’s fun.)

my granddaughter and I are excited to hear about this new attraction as we are total thrill seekers. Wow, we can not wait to fly.

I do not like thrill rides, or anything that is fun or scary. I prefer standing on they highway in front of an oncoming semi who is going 80 miles per hour. What a thrill to get hit by a truck.

Whatever happened to families spending time together in activities that required teamwork, such as camping, fishing, picnicing and talking together? I like King’s Island, but I worry that this is just another activity where parallel play is foremost in priority.

A family pass is very affordable considering prices for amusement parks in other cities with much less to offer than KI. I personally feel KI is a great value in comparison.

I’m from Cleveland originally and have lived in Dayton for about 4 years. The former X-Flight is probably the most thrilling Roller Coaster I have ever been on. To everyone that will head down to KI to check out, ENJOY!

Yeah. That looks about right, except I think the release said it would be ORANGE track. Could be wrong though. Oh well, I'm really pumped for FireHawk, even if it ISNT the "good" flyer. I have always wanted to ride X-Flight, and now it's moved to my homepark with a kick a$$ name.

Stealth is actually slightly shorter. On Stealth, the track makes one last right turn before the final brake run. On X-Flight/FireHawk, there is a helix there. The helix is my favorite part of the ride. It gives you the "flying like a superhero" feeling.

I do hope they plan to repaint X-Firehawk. because I'm not sure how well green track will do with a "fire" theme. Unless its some cool chemical reaction and it has snot-green flames instead of the traditional orangeish/yellow.

Either way, I'm glad the credit hasnt escaped me just yet. I'll still get to PKI on the Midwest trip!

I think they were reffering to the color scheme, not the actual layout...

These people apparently don't get out much. A flying coaster is hardly "one-of-a-kind". 5 hours in the car gets you to Great America, where they've had a flyer since 2003. I guess it's this same ignorance that makes people think that the Beast is still a top ride.

Yeah, it totally fits in with all those cheesy low-budget SNES games from the early 90s:

God, I miss shooters. I liked Phalanx back in the day. Thank god I have a copy of Ikegara for Dreamcast.

(If only Sega of Japan wasn't run by inept management. They wouldn't have been acquired by Sammy)

2 great pieces of news since this is finalized.

1. It won't be at MIA which means I won't have to see it every year.

2. It won't be open when I got get my CF pass so I won't feel the need to ride it for the next few years.

BTW why would anyone even think it is trying to match Tatsu?

I think this was a lame press release. IJST had videos and such, that was cool. Firehawk logo does look cheap...heh....good thing I like the ride!

And yea, PKI doesnt really care about the capacity much if they are will ing to stop FoF's train to 2 mph on the mid brake run, causing like....extra 30 seconds?! Haha. Intamin/B&M gods plz save us.

True, it may not be a "one-of-a-kind" for us enthusiasts, but to the general public, this is a brand new type of coaster experience for the majority of them.

Plus, how many people of the gen. public even know SFGA or GL exists?? We'll have to wait and see how successful all this is to determine if this is ignorance, better use for a ride, or just good marketing.

I strongly disagree with the "GP is dumb" argument. Look at theme park attendance figures. The parks that invest the most into their parks get the largest number of guests. End of story.

I don't see how anyone can defend this awful decision. Here's a few reasons why this blows:

Maverick

Griffon

Flying Turns

Mystery Mine

Renegade

Everyone else seems to be installing awesome rides this year.

^ And are they all season pass holders? Are they buying season passes this year based solely on this ride being built? I agree with ginzo, but I'm still happy we got anything at all, as I wasn't planning on any coasters for this year. I admit it, right here and now, so all you fanboys can get a warm fuzzy feeling: I'm glad there's a coaster being installed at KI instead of one being taken out and not replaced by anything in the short term (see Geauga Lake). I know there's a plan for that park, and i understand all the attendence figures yada yada yada and how six flags didn't have a clue when they tried to turn GL into a park competing with Cedar Point (Hellooooooo!! Lake Erie and Cedar Point > Geauga Lake and SFWofA!). Even understanding all that, I'm still glad we're at the receiving end. Hopefully we'll see an exciting NEW attraction at KI in the near future. That's my only hope. My only concern is that new coaster will be pushed back, because the GP thinks this IS a new coaster. That is why I'm dissapointed. Clear it up for you fanboys? Can any of you comprehend that logic?

Really, then explain to me how Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland lead the industry in attendence for seasonal amusement parks? Those parks haven't had a good roller coaster installation for years. Yet for some reason they are getting a huge number of guests. The GP seem to love the cheap installations of Italian Jobs and Disk-O coasters. These 2 parks seem to prove you don't need great coasters to get a huge number of guests. As long as your park resides in a huge metropolitain area and you get a huge number of season passholders by updating kiddy attractions, your park will be financially successful.

True, and none of these installations happened at a Paramount Park. What would Paramount be installing at KI this year? Perhapes a huge Disko coaster themed to Survivor? More Kid rides?

Yeah, I have to agree here. The GP is dumb. Yeah, when KI invests in a new ride, they get hiked attendance because not everybody goes to these places every single year. When they add something new, the people come back. It's been my experience that pretty much everybody around here thinks there are one or two Six Flags... KK and St. Louis. Most people I know have no clue about SFGAm or GL or anywhere else. A lot of them know CP, but not all. The GP is very dumb compared to enthusiasts. As much of a bad decision I think this is capacity-wise, on average, it's going to be a brand new concept to most people.

^ What paramount would do and what Cedar Fair will do are different, and I don't think you should bash someone because they aren't as excited as you are about a used coaster. We're all happy with the certified pre-owned ford focus. But don't bash Joe and I for looking at the new Lexus and feeling a little envious.
