p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

A photo showing how close the track comes to the ground just after the dive loop. Don Helbig says no digging will be done at this point.

At this point, however at another point in time they may do some digging.(here)

I don't buy it.

Yeah...I've seen him (in the pictures) at Kings Island before, he's shorter than I am (5'8"). I don't think the trains will come that close, and personally I like the look of the dug out at the bottom of the first drop. I'll have to see the trains first, but either way it's going to be an awesome footchopper effect - it won't really matter if they do or don't, I think it'll look the same when you're on the ride.

Heres another group of pics from closing weekend. Friday was cold and fairly busy. The Scream Like a Banshee finals were friday. Everyone was made up to look like a Banshee. Maybe next year there will be a Run like a Banshee event. I noticed survey markers outside the entrance but didnt get pics. There are a couple of stakes and spray paint marks in a few places. Hmmm!

^^^ That dive loop was big before but those pictures made me realize the shear scale of this thing! I thought it was going to be WAY smaller! That thing's HUGE, and I didn't realize how huge until I saw that panorama!

And that really close footchopper with the ground needs some gravestones around it. That would look epic!

REALLY hoping to be able to make it down there for media/opening day!

KI posted this on their twitter 12 hours ago:

In the shadows of falling darkness, wings of the night creature await their silent signal from the moon.

Hmmm....

It's worth noting, this exact same Tweet was sent out on August 3rd:

https://twitter.com/KingsIslandPR/status/363832186694156288

If you watch the television commercial from 1981 at the beginning of this POV, the exact same line is used (sorry, I'm struggling to embed here):

With the removal of the old Top Gun theming below the station, there is obviously something going on here. Reports from the last day also say the logo on the trains is gone along with the "aircraft landing stripes" on the station. It appears to be completely debranded. Maybe the "fake" Bat page from prior to the Banshee announcement wasn't actually a fake all along. Maybe this all will include a retheme of Action Zone as well?!

I think the key phrase here is 'At This Point'.

I may have misworded my post here. By saying "at this point" I meant that section of the ride, not as in at this time. But I was just passing on what other posters had said on kicentral, I was not actually in attendance for the event. Maybe someone who was there can clarify?

Looking forward to see how that loop turns out. I quite like the idea of loops warping around the lift although, based on Banshee's video, I like the way Riddler's Revenge and Kumba's loops do it a bit more. I don't know why but I think they look cooler as they warp the lift at a smaller angle while Banshee's does it at a 90 degrees one.

The Bat flies again at Kings Islandimage.thumb.jpg.8b1148c85aec1208dc1089b56bcf973a.jpg

KINGS ISLAND, Ohio – Thirty-three years to the day it was first introduced in 1980, The Bat will fly again at Kings Island.

The 364-acre amusement and waterpark is changing the name and colors of the Flight Deck roller coaster to The Bat. The change will take effect for the 2014 season.

“There was a lot of passion and enthusiasm around this name change by our guests,” Kings Island’s vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. “They told us this is a name they wanted us to bring back. We listened and we’re excited our guests will again be able to fly The Bat at Kings Island in 2014.

“The name also fits the characteristics of the ride. Similar to a bat in flight, riders soar through the air, swooping, circling and diving unexpectedly as they enjoy this ride.”

The newly named Bat is similar to its predecessor as a suspended roller coaster with the tracks above the trains. When the coaster train turns a corner, the cars are designed to swing out to the side, sometimes swinging the riders parallel to the ground.

The new color scheme for The Bat will feature orange track with two shades of charcoal for the columns and structure. Black will be the featured color of the trains.

Designed by the Arrow Dynamics Company, The Bat was custom designed for Kings Island when it debuted as Top Gun in 1993. Riders soar over the tree tops and through a hilly wooden terrain and a series of sharp turns on this seventh generation steel roller coaster. The attraction celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013, giving its 20-millionth ride in June.

The Bat is one of 15 roller coasters at Kings Island, including the new world record-breaking Banshee set to debut in 2014.

The original Bat operated for parts of three seasons from 1981 to 1983, giving 1.8 million rides.
