Flya Pelican
Which park should my family go to? Let's keep in mind the circumstances of the family. A 17 year old boy who is scared of rollercoasters and only likes water rides. Same with the parents. Me, who loves both. And my little brother who is 2 year old and needs a good little kids section. We were planning to go to Dorney Park for a 2-Day-Trip and stay at a Holiday Inn across Dorney Park, visiting both water and theme parks of the park. One problem here, only I like the coasters. Second problem, we don't know if the one payment allows us to go to both parks Third problem, is there a good enough area for my little brother to play in? Also, since this is a big park my mom wants us all to be together. At Land of Make Believe my little brother can play in the kids section with my mom and she will allow me to go on anything I like without her. Meaning I can go run around and do whatever. The problem is, there are only like 4 water rides! And that's pretty much all I have to do there!! Does anyone know if there are REALLY long lines at LOMB? And how long the lines are at Dorney Park Mon-Thurs? Thanks for the help guys!!
Medusa1861
One price-both parks for Dorney. Dorney Park's "kids" area is decent enough, and big enough that Hydra kind of is "in the area" the other area with a bunch of kids rides is near Laser and Voodoo, so that's 3 "big" coasters you can get on. Land of Make believe just has one coaster, although Kiddy, it's a "rare" credit. If you haven't been to Dorney, You should go to Dorney, there's almost no wait for any ride but if you have, I'd choose Land of Make Believe. Jim S.
I was just at Dorney yesterday and the water park had much bigger lines. Even the line for the log flume, which is in the dry park, was only down the stairs of the station. Most of the coasters were a station-full or less most of the day. Occasionally the line would get down the stairs, but the only thing that was into the first switchback was Hydra because it broke down. (And the Wild Mouse because they're insanely paranoid about loading it for some reason.) The main parking lot was at least 3/4 full, and there were over a dozen buses. (Warning: when the water park closes (7 PM?), the dry park gets a lot busier. Also, food service is slow pretty much everywhere no matter how few people are in the park.) I wish I could suggest something to help with their fear of coasters, but Dorney doesn't seem like it would lend itself to that. By far the smoothest ride in the park is also the tallest (Steel Force), and the smallest adult coaster is the most violent! (I'm talking about Thunderhawk, not the Wild Mouse which always looks like there's no track under you so it probably wouldn't help either.) Hercules
This is absolutely no contest. Dorney Park is the way to go. The water park is much better than Land of Make Believe, and there are far more things to do there for everyone. Land of Make Believe is fun if you are..... in elementary school. They have made improvements there, but it is no where near the scale of Dorney. There are lines at Dorney on the weekends. Don't think that there aren't. But you can definitely weave through the park and do a lot of things multiple times, and everyone would be very happy. I don't really think that Dorney is a two day park by any means, so I would suggest finding something else in the Lehigh Valley to do. Personal Message me if you want some ideas as I know the area very well.
Speeddeamon128
I would say Dorney Park. The park isn't that big since you can see one side of the park from another. Also Dorney's Camp Snoopy is a great children's area. Yes there are 3 kiddie credits there as well by Lazer & Voodoo. The water park is crowded most of the time but the coasters aren't. Plus there is much more to do at Dorney than Land of Make Believe.

PhantomNick
Hercules says it all in his post, really. It's Dorney Park FTW with those 2 choices. I'm a big fan of Dorney, quite honestly, as it is a nice park with a good assortment of rides, coasters, and things to do (In fact, this was the first time in the past 5 years that we didn't make it out there.....and we live a good 5+ hours away). The water rides there are very good, I might add, as the flume is unique and the rapids ride is the best I have ridden to date. There are milder rides and/or kiddie rides very close to all of the coasters, so I'm sure there would be plenty to do for everyone in your family. halltd
If you go to Dorney, don't go on a busy/hot weekend. We just went last Saturday and had probably the worst theme park experience we've ever had. It seems to me that Dorney Park has replaced Geauga Lake when it comes to quality of their guests. There were times we didn't feel safe and that's why we left the park six hours earlier than originally planned. I have to say, the last time we went, we absolutely loved the park. So, I hope it just happened to be the day we picked this year. But, it will take a LOT to get us to go back there.

I have been to dorney many times, and have never felt unsafe because of the crowd that was there. So you must have had a off day. I would definetly go with dorney. yankees15
I would defenitly choose Dorney. Dorney is right outside of Allentown which is a pretty rough city. Statistically Allentown is more dangerous that New York City but I have never felt unsafe at Dorney either. I live about 20 minutes away and I go all the time. It is very safe to be there IMO. YoshiFan
Maybe someone who has gone on a weekend to Dorney or has gone multiple times on weekends can better clarify this but without getting into it too much, I have heard from multiple people that the crowds Dorney gets on a weekend are very different than the crowds they get on a weekday, at least during the summer. I go a lot during weekdays during the summer and weekends in May, September and October and have always felt safe.
yankees15
^That is very true I will not visit the park on a weekend during the summer as well. I will only visit on a saturday during May, September, and October as you also said. So I guess it's possible the crowds are alot different on weekends but I have never experienced that.
