jamesdillaman
So no one reads this, so on to the pics: The power kicked back on, and this was the ensuing line for wristbands... More to come. Th newer slides surrounding the repainted Galaxi coaster. Antique cars with Lost Coaster and other woodies in the background. Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain. One of my favorites, unfortunately didn't get on this one today. The newly repainted skyride looks awesome! Splash Battle also didn't run all day, which was a shame later, when it was very hot. The chairswings that everyone raves about (although the pulsing freaks me out a little) The rainbow didn't run all day (even after the power came back). I'm assuming this is fallout from the Liseberg incident. Giant Wheel silenced by the outage I know everyone has this shot, but I think Hoosier Hurricane is one of the most picturesque woodies of all time... It was very odd to hear nothing running. Walking across the suspension bridge to a park without power! Here we are, after driving through the rain!
jamesdillaman
Round 2: Finally the storm passed and Steel Hawg tested and then opened for us to ride! but I opted for the fresh ribbon fries with bacon, cheddar, and sour cream... mmmm. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, please! So me and Amanda decided to play some fascination to pass the time, although I quickly became addicted... A fascination ticket. Story: After the power came back on, before we could ride anything, a storm came back in, closing everything. The log flume also got a bright new paint job for this season. I don't remember the funnel cake booth the last couple times I've been there, but I usually park in the free parking area, so might have just missed it. The ending turn into the brake run. Here's the brakes. They aren't too bad, though. The first drop. Seriously, pay attention small parks across the country! This ride was very fun when I finally got on it. Surprisingly smooth and I think a great addition to the park. And of course, in the background, away from everything else at the park lies Steel Hawg! A close up of the new paint job! jamesdillaman
And more... This was my 200th coaster, and although that means nothing, it has a special place in my memory now. And of course all the rides are built on the water... Anyone who's never been can't appreciate how nice this park looks from everywhere! A tunnel on Lost Coaster. This car ride needs more love, it's so unique. Some people enjoying the newly painted skyride. So here's those rare POV shots I mentioned: The antique cars! The shooting gallery, and of course everything went off with the flash from this picture! Love the fact that there are still no restraints of any form on Tig'rr One of my favorites at IB... A rare opportunity, coaster on top of coaster action! It's not a top ten coaster by any means, but a very fun little ride!
jamesdillaman
there's still more.. These guys are very talented. Ski and Jet ski, side by side off the ramp! The show is worth seeing for the boats alone. Someday I'll get one of these for my pool in my backyard... oh and I'll get a pool. Some more russian swing fun. Flying... Corny? Yes. Silly? Yes. Cheesy? Yes. Awesome? Of course! So on to the pirate-themed stunt show, another must see on any IB trip! Finally, nice to see the rides operating, huh? And the lucky person with the ride to themselves... Paratrooper, on the water of course. So this shows how empty the park was, no wait for Den of Lost Thieves! If you fall in Lake Shafer, the specially bred flesh-eating carp will devour you. Again, is there a more awesome car ride out there? Is there? The car ride gives some nice views of Lost Coaster. spaceace12
About Splash Battle being closed, doesn't surprise me. I rode it during the GOCC coaster event and it was only open during ERT during the 2 days I was there. The new management has been strange on ride openings when I have been there. While I disagree with the sky ride colors (liked the old ones) Galaxi looks really nice. And finally, the funnel cake booth. The area where steel hawg is used to be paid parking, where paid parking is now used to be free parking. Paid parking was also under the Hurricane. So to fill up the area up to Steel Hawg, the new management put in games and food booths to fill the area. I bet later they will have more rides in this are also. jamesdillaman
More, I have to go to work, so I'll post the rest later... Thanks to Mirage Entertainment and Indiana Beach for one of the most entertaining shows I've seen at a themepark. The heroic couple at the end! The "thrilling" climax to the show. And down he goes. The high diver on top of the "mast" and then is off. the chase is on... uh-oh. Three guys leave, but one's skis are tied to the dock, so he doesn't get very far.... There is also diving, as Indiana State law requires dive shows in all amusement parks apparently... This looks like fun. Wakeboarder. A good view of many of the cast. The "pirate queen" The towing boat... Some more of the stunt show.
alpengeist04
Wow, thanks for all the great pictures so far. My only concern with Steel Hawg was whether it would be rough or not, I'm glad to hear its not.
Groteslurf
Great pics. Indiana Beach is one of the parks which are on my top to do list.
MisterP
Nice pictures. I freaking love that place. So where did they actually put Steel Hawg? Is it back near the cabins and the main lot (on the log flume side)?

coastercrazed49
Great pictures. So what caused the power outage? I do remember there being a large thunderstorm a few days ago. Also Steel Hawg looks like a lot of fun. It kind of reminds me of the little coasters I would build with the cheap Six Flags coaster model kit. Reon
Just thought I'd post here since I hit the park that day. Actually, retarded story: Last week, JZ texted my cellphone about a trip up with James and a friend, asking me to be the fourth member. I gratefully accepted since I had never gone to IB before, but before we could go over details, JZ told me he couldn't make it anymore. So I just grabbed my friend Alex, and we went on our own. We eventually met up with James in line for Steel Hawg around 5pm, but they had to leave shortly afterwards since they only had 1 rides session paid for....Anyways, my quick non-photo tr (because the camera on my phone sucks) Alex and I arrived at about 1ish. The storms were still clearing up, so when we got there everything was closed down. We each bought a discounted combo pass for $30 each, and started to walk around. While we waited for the coasters to open, we did a few flats like Tilt-a-Whirl, Paratrooper, and the Yo-yo. I'm definately gonna have to say that location easily double's the thrills of all flats, and that Coney needs a Yo-yo! Once we were done with Music Express, we saw high rides testing/running, so we took the Skyride back towards the North side. After a trip on Double Shot (since I'm an airtime fanatic), we found the arcade. DDR Extreme=yay. Though I havent played DDR in a year, I was happy to see they had my favorite machine version. I don't really like Supernova, and I havent tried Supernova 2 yet, even though Coney just got a copy of that machine a few weeks ago. Anyways, Alex and I played a round, and started our credit run. Hoosier Hurricane: Its a solid out and back with great location, but IMO it doesn't deliver as much as it looks like it should. We ended up riding it 3 times; once in front, and twice in the back. Cornball Express: Not sure if its in my top list, but its definately up there. Great airtime, nice twists, and great pacing/location. I'd compare it to Cyclops at Mt. Olympus mixed with a Holiday World woodie. Only got 4 rides on it, but I'd definately go back to IB just to marathon that ride. Backseat ride is a must! Tig'rr: My first Jetstar coaster..not the best ride in the world, but the lack of restraints made it awesome. I loved the akward semi-airtime that you got going down the drops. Galaxi: Coney has Pepsi Python, which is based on galaxies, so I sort of knew what to expect. However, Galaxi turned out to be pretty fun between location, altered layout, and every seat being open (Coney won't let anyone on the very back seat of Python because it's not padded). Fun ride, and the airtime on the first two drops was great! LoCoSuMo: Fun ride, but its a horrible capacity beast when it only runs 1 train. I liked how it was half dark ride/half coaster, though it was a bit jerky. Still, can't beat the bear! Steel Hawg: The first time I rode it was when we met up with James. He let me and Alex take the front row, though Alex stole the right side from me (I got him back on our second run) Hawg is a really fun ride, filled with hangtime, twists, inversions, and an awesome first drop. Also, the lift hill is REALLY fast, like El Toro or Millenium Force speed. Anyways, great addition to the park. I hope S&S can put some more of these things in other parks... With all the coasters out of the way, we hit the flume, Den of Lost thieves (my gun was broken ), and re-hit some rides. We didn't play any Fascination because it looked pretty empty, and I wanted to save SOME money. Eventually, we left for Cincinnati at about 8pm. Overall, IB is a great park, though there are some places where it feels empty. I'd love to go back sometime, and I'd REALLY love it if Coney could take a few hints from them (over-water attractions, stacking rides, decent coasters, etc)
jamesdillaman
^ Yeah, it was fun talking with you guys while we waited for Steel Hawg to open back up. You should definitely stay away from Fascination, unless you want to be hooked in a downward spiral of addiction. I was almost selling spare organs for quarters! Just kidding, but anyway, on to the end of the pictures! -James Dillaman Final shot, into the mountain! Thanks for looking! A rare shot of it in action (This coaster is tough to photograph, except from the skyride.) The elevator lift of LoCoSuMo. Another look at my favorite park. Here's a closeup of the train for everybody so you can see the restraints clearly. Some random photos to finish up - here's the train of Hoosier Hurricane This just shows how "outside the park" Steel Hawg is, as stated, it's where the paid parking was last year. This is what 24 points will buy you - an amazing Iguana sculpture!!! How random, but it's better than the 3-piece wrench set, my other option. Like I said, it was pretty popular, especially with the parents and grandparents of kids who were out enjoying the park. Greatest amusement park game ever? In my opinion it is hands down. Action shot, this might be like porn for any of the midwest trippers. I heard they took over the game for a while. Ahhh, wish they were worth more... I did pretty well, winning 9 times in only 20 plays, and for many of them, the place was packed! So back to my favorite thing to do when the rides are closed... Reon
I know how addicting Fascination can be. When I went to Knoebels, I ended up wasting $10 on it. I would've played more, but Phoenix is much more addicting then Fascination. Or anything else in existance for that matter.
cfc
^I played it for the first time at Knoebel's last year, and it is pretty addicting. Didn't win a durn thing, though. (I suck at park games.)
bobafett
Fascination is a great game. We have it down here on our boardwalk in WildWood,NJ. I play it all the time. We also had a Den of Lost Thieves on the boardwalk but they got rid of it and put glow in the dark golf in it's place. You had top pay for it separately and I am guessing that people didn't want to do that anymore so that is why they got rid of it. Great report and pics, would love to hit little places like that. STR8FXXXINEDGE
Nice photos! I really love Indiana Beach. Cornball Express has a special little place in my heart! I'm glad to hear that Steel Hawg is not super rough, cause I guess I just assumed that it would be.
StormFreak
I already took one 90 mile trip down to the park earlier this year before the Hawg opened, but it sounds like I need to make another trip... Im really looking forward to riding SH. While I had great rides on LoCoSuMo this year, I was a bit dissapointed with Cornball this year. It just felt much rougher than I remember... Still alot of fun though, and you can't beat the backseat. I dont know if Falling Star has been open at all this season? Every TR I have heard has said it was closed, and it was down when I was there in June... Sad, because its my favorite Falling Star/Rainbow that I have been on. Also, was Air Crow open? I love those flyers, but they were also down in June...
jamesdillaman
^ We rode Air Crow, but they were being strict about the snapping, so I didn't ride them more than once. Cornball was running well, although I did notice some shuffling especially in the last half of the ride. Still, the first drop in the backseat is worth it no matter how rough it is. As for Steel Hawg, let me elaborate: It is surprisingly smooth, and feels almost like a eurofighter, especially the hang time halfway through going into the diving loop thing. The lift is very fast, which is great, but I don't see why they would ever run more than 2 cars on it, as that was about as fast as the crew could load them while we were there. I guess it's nice to have spares around, though. -James Dillaman
