Walt Disney World Resort Non-Park Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

For some reason I was under the impression that this was going to be some kind of restaurant but sounds like it's more of an interactive exhibit/museum, might be fun. No idea what the price point will be but if it's reasonable I'd probably give it a try sometime.

There will be a restaurant attached to the NBA Experience but as of now it won't be branded as being part of it.

Yeah I remember that news but for some reason thought this was going to be a newer version of the old NBA City at city walk. I guess there's so many other great dining options at Disney Springs why try to compete with those? If you daily access allows you to come and go, leave for lunch and come back or something, I'm all for it.

So this is like all the other attraction replacements in Orlando. Take out the old busted tech and bring in the new IP. This sounds like BasketballQuest lol. If there's a flat admission fee, it would be really cool if this gets added to the Parkhopper plus option like Quest used to be.

I have always believed that DisneyQuest was WAY ahead of its time. It's really a shame they just left it to rot and didn't continue to invest in keeping it up to date. This does seem like the next iteration of it with a new IP.

So I am going to be in Orlando tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what to do for New Year's Eve. I was hoping to go to a park (either at Disney or elsewhere), but was looking for any advice anyone has about what to do. Epcot was my thought but I know it's SUPER crowded; I assume everywhere will be and that's just got to be part of the fun. I've never been to SeaWorld either so I thought there might be cool too. Thanks for any help!

The ThinkFoodGroup has sent us a new press release including details and renderings of the new restaurant Jaleo, opening at Disney Springs later this year!

1940162247_Jaleo_MainEntranceRendering.thumb.jpg.9aa50c48374823b08de57f1b9462a9e3.jpg

Today, José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup, in collaboration with renowned Spanish design firm Capella Garcia Arquitectura, revealed details of the striking design of the beloved Jaleo brand’s newest location at Disney Springs. Opening this winter, the 22 thousand square foot restaurant will be Andrés’ largest to date and will bring the spirit and flavors of Spain to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Based on the colorful iconography of Spain, the architectural form of the building is inspired by an artichoke, a vegetable native to José’s homeland. The artichoke structure opens up, inviting guests to enter and experience the very best of Spanish cuisine. The petals themselves form pergolas, which extend toward the outdoors. The freestanding, two-story building lacks solid walls and is completely open to the outside, with large windows offering views of the lake while protecting diners from the sun. “There are no cubic forms, no opaque walls, no straight lines: here reigns a plant-like organic structure with its dynamic forms. An avant-garde, expressionist and welcoming architecture,” remarks Juli Capella, principal at Capella Garcia Arquitectura, on Jaleo’s design.

The interior features a double height central courtyard that visually connects the restaurant’s two floors. The idea of Jaleo, the Spanish word for “revelry,” inspires the large, family-style gathering space, inviting guests to share tapas and sangria, gather with family at the foosball tables, or enjoy the more elegant central seating for paellas and grilled meats, anchored by the restaurant’s open kitchen and wood fire grill. Private dining options include two terraces, one overlooking the Disney Springs promenade and another overlooking the lake.

Typical Spanish colors of citrus, namely orange and lemon, offer a welcoming ambience alongside predominant touches of wood and ceramic materials. Stunning artwork includes the “Suit of Lights,” an iconic photo of a bullfighter’s suit from Spanish photographer Rafael Vargas, as well a collage of San Sebastian’s popular Concha beach by photographer Ciuco Gutiérrez, bringing the Spanish landscape closer to Walt Disney World Resort.

Occupying the front-corner of Jaleo and overlooking the main promenade of Disney Springs will be a quick-service concept serving Spanish street-food-inspired sandwiches and salads. The design of the casual restaurant features natural materials and a luminous, open feel, inviting visitors into the friendly space, which is centered around a large mural from Marc Jesús, a famous painter from Menorca. With dynamic visual elements drawn from the culinary delights and landscapes of Spain, Andrés and Capella aim to surround visitors in the culture of their native country and all its creativity.

I am absolutely LOVING the design that has gone into this.

I "got" Artichoke inspired immediately.

if it looks this great once completed? absolutely a place I would go to for a meal, as the fantastic design promises some absolutely delicious food inside!

I can speak from experience from the Washington DC location - the food is amazing. You have to be careful when ordering plates though, they may be small but they can be very pricey. One of my favorites is the Croquetas de pollo, which is essentially shredded chicken wrapped in a fritter and fried. It was amazing!

Another exciting new fast casual option is coming to Disney Springs in the form of Pepe by José Andrés, joining Jaleo on the West Side of Disney Springs!

I’m a very big fan of Chef José Andrés and all of his restaurants, and I can’t be more excited about the opening of Jaleo at Disney Springs.

But today, I’m so happy to announce that José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup will also be opening one of the first-ever brick-and-mortar location of Pepe by José Andrés, inspired by the popular Washington DC food truck of the same name.

Pepe by José Andrés, located right next to Jaleo at Disney Springs, will feature an extensive menu of hot and cold Spanish-style sandwiches including bocatas and bikinis, showcasing the best of José’s native country Spain.

Some of the delicious highlights include:

  • Pollo Frito, made with breaded chicken breast, alioli, bravas sauce, piparra peppers, gem lettuce, and sherry dressing
  • Serrano y Manchego, served on crispy Pan de Cristal with tomato fresco
  • Bocata de Vegetales, made with roasted peppers, onion, green asparagus, spinach, and manchego cheese on Pan de Cristal

In addition to the sandwiches, Pepe will serve salads, soups and sides along with Spanish sangria.

The walls of Pepe are decorated with an elaborate mural by Marc Jesús, a famous Menorcan painter, featuring his ever-happy, blue-skinned female characters. The space, as well as Jaleo, was designed by celebrated Spanish designer Juli Capella.

I can’t wait to eat a bocada soon! How about you?

The Walt Disney World Resort has sent us a press release announcing that guests can now make reservations for stays at Disney's Reviera Resort! The announcement also includes more details about the resort rooms, dining options and amenities!

FINAL-2018-11-18_Riviera_PORTECOCHERE-1024x576.thumb.jpg.a3c698fecc808bbc84369aa205f95d40.jpg

Disney’s Riviera Resort is now accepting guest reservations for stays beginning in December 2019. This all-new resort coming to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and slated to be the 15th Disney Vacation Club property, will immerse guests in the grandeur and enchantment of the European Riviera.

“Disney’s Riviera Resort is inspired by Walt and Lillian Disney’s travels throughout Europe and the Mediterranean coastline —from France to Italy,” said Terri Schultz, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “Walt fell in love with European art, architecture, food and stories, and his extended tours of the region continue to influence Disney storytelling and theming. We look forward to welcoming our members and guests later this year to this new resort inspired by Europe and imagined by Disney.”

Disney’s Riviera Resort brings the elegance of a modern European retreat blended with a touch of old-world glamour and Disney charm to the Disney Vacation Club portfolio and Walt Disney World Resort. With an elegant early-20th-century design, Disney’s Riviera Resort will welcome guests with a palm tree-lined boulevard and a striking façade featuring grand archways, porticos, cascading water features, towers and terraces. In the grand oval lobby that will provide stunning views of the resort lawn and lakefront, guests will encounter a mix of modern and classic furnishings. Throughout the resort and inside the accommodations, a unique art collection will celebrate beloved Disney characters and icons with one-of-a-kind pieces influenced by the works of master artists who also found inspiration along the European Riviera. This eclectic mix of art will blend Disney artistry and European storytelling with a nod to the Riviera region’s renowned art heritage.

The deluxe Disney Vacation Club resort is slated to offer approximately 300 family-friendly vacation homes, including deluxe studios, one- and two-bedroom villas, and grand villas that sleep up to 12 guests each. Disney Vacation Club continues to offer the widest range of accommodations found at Walt Disney World, and adding to these unique accommodations will be an all-new room category — tower studios, which sleep two guests each. Each charming, bright tower studio will include a private balcony with scenic views and seating for two, offering a more intimate setting. The deluxe studios, which sleep five, will also feature kitchenettes. One-bedroom, two-bedroom and grand villas will feature large, fully equipped kitchens with dining space open to a living area. Villas will also feature an en-suite luxury bathroom, including a freestanding soaking tub and walk-in shower, as well as a private porch or balcony and a laundry area with a washer and dryer.

Topolino is the Italian name for Mickey Mouse, and the new, signature table-service restaurant perched on the rooftop of Disney’s Riviera Resort will be aptly called Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera. The restaurant, featuring authentic dishes infused with French and Italian flavors, is set to become one of the most stunning dining experiences at Walt Disney World, offering picturesque vistas of the nighttime spectaculars of nearby Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Inside, guests can watch with wonder as their meal is prepared just for them at the exclusive expo kitchen or wood burning grill. Guests looking to pair their meal with a glass of wine can choose from an impressive collection of wines sourced from the Mediterranean coast. Throughout the restaurant, a stunning visual aesthetic is created through modern interpretations of textures, colors, carved details, and stonework found in ancient villages along the Riviera. Plus, families looking to start their morning off with a breakfast experience can visit Topolino’s Terrace for exclusive Disney character dining inspired by the Riviera.

Other dining options at the resort include Le Petit Café, an inviting lobby locale with fresh-brewed coffee aromas by day and a bustling wine bar by night. The new quick-service location, Primo Piatto, reminiscent of chic dining venues found along Riviera promenades, will be conveniently located near the feature pool, and Bar Riva, an open-air pool bar with a seaside vibe featuring crisp white tiles and cool blue accents, will offer guests a place to relax as they enjoy a cold beverage and poolside views.

Guests at Disney’s Riviera Resort will also have a new way to travel to Epcot or on to Disney’s Hollywood Studios via Disney Skyliner, a state-of-the-art gondola system that will begin operating this fall. In addition to a dedicated Disney Skyliner station at Disney’s Riviera Resort, the system will conveniently connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Offering the flexibility, value and world-class service families expect, Disney’s Riviera Resort will be the first all-new, stand-alone Disney Vacation Club property at Walt Disney World since 2004. The grand opening date of the resort will be announced at a later date, as will the start of Disney Vacation Club sales and the date when Disney Vacation Club members can begin booking the resort with vacation points using an exclusive, protected member inventory. Current Disney Vacation Club members will also have an exclusive window to purchase Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Staying at a Disney resort hotel like Disney’s Riviera Resort, or any other Walt Disney World vacation ownership accommodation, puts guests inside the magic for the entirety of their vacation. Guests staying at any of the Disney resort hotels experience special features including legendary guest service and unique theming, along with other benefits such as access to FastPass+ selections up to 60 days prior to arrival and the Extra Magic Hours at the theme parks (both FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours require valid theme park admission). In addition, Disney resort hotel guests receive complimentary transportation around Walt Disney World, complimentary theme park parking, complimentary airport transportation via Disney’s Magical Express service, the convenience of MagicBands, and the ability to purchase Disney Dining Plan packages.

Now, more than ever is the perfect time to experience all of the fun and magic of a Walt Disney World vacation, as Disney’s Riviera Resort is part of the largest expansion period at Walt Disney World in the past two decades. Recent additions include the wildly popular Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the fun-filled Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This month, Walt Disney World unveiled a collection of new shows, parties and Disney character experiences in all four parks, giving guests more ways to enjoy cherished time with family and friends—Now More Than Ever. Later in the year, guests will be able to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they can live out their own adventures in a galaxy far, far away.

Guests can contact 407-W-Disney (934-7639) to make reservations for the new Disney’s Riviera Resort. To learn more about the new Disney Vacation Club resort, visit DisneysRivieraResort.com, and visit the Disney Parks Blog for the latest updates.

Does anyone know of any merch location(s) where they sell out-of-season clearance items? I never got down to EPCOT a second time before the Festival of the Arts was over and I want to see if I can still pick up a shirt.

The resort runs two outlet stores at local outlet malls. They send all the clearance merchandise to those stores, they frequently receive items from festivals and holidays. Your looking for Disney’s Character Warehouse. There are a number of fake Disney outlets around Orlando but the real ones are run by actual WDW employees. There is one in an outlet mall on I-Drive and at the Orlando Premium Outlets.

I have run into items from Shanghai Disneyland, and from the Disneyland resort at the two outlet stores in Orlando. I asked an employee and they claim those resorts do not have outlet stores and they just ship leftover items to Orlando to sell. Seems strange to me but I do not have a logical explanation.

Last night TPR was invited to attend a special event celebrating the opening of Jaleo by Chef Jose Andres at Disney Springs! This new restaurant is built upon the former Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe but you'd never know it when you visit this totally new experience. Jaleo is vibrant, colorful and unlike anything you'll find in Disney Springs when it comes to architecture or dining experience. Jaleo's cornerstone is offering a wide variety of tapas-style options that are inspired by the flavors of Spain. Paella is a specialty here, but beyond that, you'll find a number of unique tastes like iberica ham, pork chorizo, croquettas de pollo and the "Ibérico de bellota mini hamburguesa," a pork burger that is out of this world! And like with the food options, drinks are phenomenal here... Gin, bourbon, sangria, wine--you can't go wrong with any choice here!

Attached to Jaleo is Pepe, a quick service option for Spanish-style sandwiches, gazpacho and amazing soft serve--all of which are definitely worth your while when you're aiming for the on-the-go!

Jaleo and Pepe are amazing new additions to Disney Springs, and one of the first new options to open at Disney Springs' West Side. It is hard to believe that only a few years ago much of Disney Springs did not exist, but looking at that has opened in that time, it is easy to see why these additions have been so successful! The bar has consistently been raised when it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment and Jaleo pushes that trend even higher. I can't recommend enough stepping into Jaleo for a bite--you won't regret it!
