kraken613
^^ Well the iPhone has the best internet browser by far in my opinion.

Calaway Park
^^I'm on AT&T now and very happy and would like to stay with them. Hey Elissa, If AT&T is your current provider, I suggest you get the iPhone. It's an absolutely fantastic phone with a great price. You'll adore it and you get to stay with your favourite service provider! -Sean

Wes
For those of you who know me and these new style phones...should I get one? I'll be ready for a new phone this fall, and I've realized as I sit in the parks by myself in air conditioned places while the baby naps that it would be nice to be able to go online. Basically, I'd like a phone that's: - Easy and decent online - Small - Good at text messaging - Nice Camera I don't care about listening to music on phones at all. Help me! Elissa... Obviously I'm going to be biased towards the iPhone, but it is really solid for what you are looking for, especially now at this lower price point. - Easy and decent online: This is probably the phone's strongest feature. It has 3G and WiFi, only a few phones in AT&T's roster have both, and none of them have the simple browser the iPhone has. Plus, with all your international travel, you'll be able to use data in other countries since most foreign countries are 3G. The only big problem there is that the iPhone is locked to AT&T, so it's not like you can swap out the SIM card with a local carrier when you're in wherever. - Small. For a "smart phone", it's relatively tiny. The newest iPhone is a little fatter in the middle, so I wouldn't be able to judge its relative bulk accurately. The current model is much wider than most phones, but also very thin. Obviously you can find *much* smaller standard phones though. One good thing about the iPhones is that there's a multitude of cases, so you can protect decently it in case Kid Tums decides to throw it around. These add to the bulk though. - Text. For typing, some people love the touch screen, some people hate it. I'm not going to lie and say it's great....it takes getting used to, it is easy to make mistakes, you do have to sort of watch what you're doing, and I wouldn't want to write a multi-paragraph post with it. For strict texting and basic email, it definitely works once you're used to it. Lack of MMS is still fucking annoying though. - Nice camera. Yeah...not the greatest. It works okay in good lighting conditions, but indoors and night are not the best. For reference, here's some photos I've taken with it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wesisrad/tags/iphonephotos/ It's 2 megapixels, there's no flash, there's absolutely no adjustment modes on the camera...literally the camera application is a button to take the picture, that's it. I feel the camera is the weakest developed of all the apps that come with the phone. I use it for small stuff, but I'd never think of it as an acceptable replacement for a regular camera. This phone isn't out yet, but it might be a bit more suited towards your needs...Wifi and 3G, better camera, slide out keyboard. http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/overview/x1?cc=us&lc=en
MiamiBoii4392
^Yeah I agree! I like AT&T and have never had a problem with them and we have been with them for awhile. I also agree, I've never had an iPhone, but I've had an iPod touch for a while and I loved it, then I sold it because I got bored of it. The only thing I wouldn't like about having an actual iPhone is the speed of the internet is so darn slow without a WiFi connection close by. If you want fast mobile internet, I recommend you switch to Sprint. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sprint's EVDO is the fastest mobile broadband available to date. And I also agree that the iPhone's browser is the best mobile browser.

The 3G iPhone has extremely fast cellular download speeds, about 5 [to 15?] seconds longer then WiFi. -Sean
Wes
^ I think you mean 5 seconds longer, and that's under the absolute most optimal conditions. Current 3G is never going to be as fast as Wifi. Not everything Apple says is true.
MiamiBoii4392
^ They Might've said that its 5 seconds faster than WiFi, but that could mean Wireless-B or something very 'read between the linish'.
MiamiBoii4392
I'm reading about it right now. Sprint plans on launching their 4G network called Xohm with cable broadband-speeds.

TPDave
Basically, I'd like a phone that's: - Easy and decent online - Small - Good at text messaging - Nice Camera Elissa, I don't think you'll need an iPhone. Internet - Although it's the best mobile browser, there are many other 3G cell phones that allow you to get online fairly easily. Size - For a smartphone it's small, but it's by no means the smallest phone in the market. Text messaging - Personally i don't mind the keyboard and i find it quite easy to use, but some people find it frustrating not being able to feel the keys and having to constantly look at the keyboard. The IM style SMS display is really nice though (where you see your message history with a contact so you're reminded about the discussion). Camera - To be honest, it's crap. It's only 2MP and unless the object is still and well lit, the picture quality is rubbish. Sony ericsson phones have far better cameras. The iPhone is great (i'm probably going to get a 3G when it comes out), but it's great for people who want a decent iPod, incredible web browsing, GPS and hundreds of specialist applications in their pocket. It just seems incredibly over-speced for what you want.
