coasterfreak101
Does anybody have an idea how bad crowds might be tomorrow, or how bad they typically are on the day-of the 4th? I can't decide whether they'll be really bad because of the holiday, or not bad because people have family to be with. And I'd imagine that Kings Dominion will be much worse, with all of their deals they have going. Basically, I'm making one trip to SFA this year, and this might be it, because I want one last ride on Typhoon Lagoon!
jps294
Christmas Event? Christmas in July: Celebrate Christmas on July 24 at Hurricane Harbor! Santa Claus will be spreading some holiday cheer around Hurricane Bay wave pool. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots and receive 50% off a one-day admission ticket! Haul out the holly, cue up the Christmas carols, trim the tree, and… break out the bathing suits! Six Flags America, Maryland’s family fun headquarters, hosts its first-annual Santa Splash - Christmas in July event on Sunday, July 24. The event will take place in Hurricane Harbor water park from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Santa Claus- all dressed up in his summertime Santa attire- has decided to spend a portion of his summer holidays at Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor and will greet guests in a Christmas-themed boat on the edge of Hurricane Bay, one of the world’s largest wave pools. To make him feel at home, Hurricane Harbor will be decked out with festive Christmas décor, including snowfall, and ringing with merry holiday songs. Special entertainment and activities, such as snowman building, cookie decorating, tree trimming, games, and more, will take place throughout the day. Six Flags America guests are invited to spread the cheer by supporting the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Guests who donate a new, unwrapped toy at the park on July 24 may purchase one-day admission passes for half-price, just $27.50 (plus tax). Toys for boys and girls of every age are welcome and will be donated to Toys for Tots for distribution to needy children in the local area this holiday season. http://www.sixflags.com/america/news_SantaSplash2011.aspx I hope this leads them up to a true Holiday In the Park!! bubala
Here is some video footage of Skull Mountain shot on July 10,2011, the final day. I managed to get a ride on the very last boat that went out for the public. So, I was one of the very first riders in 1997 and one of the very last riders in 2011. I didn't think I would be sad to see the ride go, but I really am. I am so glad I made the trip to the park for a few more rides on that final day. Enjoy! -Jason
eddie200330
Nice vid, but can someone please explain to me why they close it mid season as opposed to waiting until the end of the season?
CardCraze
Great American Scream Machine also closed during the season. Although, closing water ride in July stings .
deathbydinn
Nice vid, but can someone please explain to me why they close it mid season as opposed to waiting until the end of the season? The park has confirmed that something will take it's place, so they'll need time to remove the ride and then prep the land for whatver goes there next year. SFGAm Shock Wave
Parks just can't win can they? Close a ride early, people complain. Keep a ride open until the end of the season, people complain when the new ride opens late.

KDCOASTERFAN
Nice vid, but can someone please explain to me why they close it mid season as opposed to waiting until the end of the season? The park has confirmed that something will take it's place, so they'll need time to remove the ride and then prep the land for whatver goes there next year. I don't see that happening just yet as there havn't been any zoning requests that I'm aware of for new rides for the park. Another major problem I see with beginning demolition of SM now is that a large part of it's lift & theme structure(the skull) cross over/sit really close to wild one, they'd have to shut the coaster down for this demolition to take place & I don't see them doing that this early. eddie200330
I guess if they got all of the low to the ground stuff out of the way, it wouldn't be hard to finish after the season. But that doesn't leave much time for a new installation prior to opening of next season.
orangeguy
Is Six Flags America as bad as people say? I've never been before, and I'm wondering if I should bother going. So many people seem to give it such a bad rap.
QueerRudie
Yes. Yes it is. A really REALLY bad day at Kings Dominion is still far better than the best day I've EVER had at SFA- at least since 2004.

It's no Holiday World (service wise), but it has improved, and it certainly warrants a visit.

It's not as bad ad everyone tries to make it sound. Yes, it's a bit more ghetto than KD, and it's by no stretch of the imagination a Busch Gardens, but it's not THAT bad. I think this is peoples biggest issue. They go there thinking of other parks and that is where the "disappointment" comes in. I like it for what it is and it would be "the" park if these others didn't exist so close. I don't think they ever set out to be like the rest, so I give them credit for at least having the park there that is actually different than the rest. I wouldn't want every park to be themed or set up the same as the next, that would be boring.....

StarTrekGeek
From CoasterLvr at SFAFans: Well, I guess this could make some people very happy and some people very sad... For those of you who loved Skull Mountain and were hoping that the park would change their mind and keep the ride, sorry, the park has filed for and been approved for the permits required to raze the ride. For those of you who are excited for 2012 and can't wait to see construction start, I'm excited to say that preparations for the 2012 attraction are underway as the park has been approved to begin site clearing (i.e. razing Skull Mountain). (See attached permit)

ilrider
A rumor that has begun circulating the last couple days is that Iron Wolf will cease operation at SFGAM on 9/5/11, despite the response a few weeks back that it isn't going anywhere. No official statement or sources, but interesting nonetheless.
terdferg
That rumor has been thrown around before. Hopefully it is not true. The park has come a long way and it deserves more than that.
