Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

I was there Saturday- all coasters were a walk on until around 1. Alter that, I didn't wait more than 20 minutes (Batwing and Superman), but that was due to poor operations with one train on every coaster. I wouldn't worry about crowds too much.

Edit: as for processing, I did so around 4 as I left because the line was very long in the morning, but still waited upwards of 90 minutes due to line jumping and understaffing.

Went to the park today. Ops, and everything else was silky smooth. Had a very good time in the Mardi Gras section. What impressed me the most was that someone made the call to run two trains on the wild one; the line was a little long most of the day. Looking forward to going again.

On opening day I saw a Wild One train in the transfer, it looked constructed, as far as I could tell. Unless it has three trains, which I don't think it does, every time I've gone (3 separate visits) every coaster including Wild One have run 1 train. That better change with Ragin Cajun

^You know, unless a Skyscreamer is on tap for 2015, a new Intamin gyro drop wouldn't be a bad idea for SFA given the height restriction was relaxed. Voodoo drop is the shortest Intamin drop tower I've seen, and never seems to reach full capacity given maintenance issues.

I'd like a Skyscreamer, be good for the skyline and provide some nice views. This is just me dreaming, but do any of you see SF taking a gamble by really investing in SFA anytime soon, say 5-7 years? SFA is in dire need of a big thrill coaster, and S:ROS isn't it. It's almost 15 years old. Ragin Cajun is SFA's newest non kiddie coaster. It's 11 years old, which is pathetic to be the newest coaster there. When was the last time SF invested more than 5 million in this park, 2001? Again, just daydreaming. I understand where SF places there efforts, and that's SFMM, SFGam, and SFGadv.

I went down to the park today, so here are some thoughts.

-Roar is running REALLY well because of the extensive retracking they've done. If it was this enjoyable with the old PTCs, I would love to see it run with Millenium Flyers. I think they would fare better here than on Gwazi and Wildcat because the track is mostly in great condition now, and the new trains would be running on new track.

-The flyers were open, and they have a decent bit of snapability. Better than the ones at KD and Hershey.

-Superman was running one train, and the red one was nowhere to be seen.

-Operations were bad as usual, but the staff is still really friendly. Makes me think the issue lies with management and training.

-Mardi Gras as a whole looks really nice. I'm confused as to what they're doing with the train, but I never liked the old tractor anyways.

-Joker's paint looks really nice.

-Apocalypse was lacking fire

-LOL was not nearly as good as expected. They chose audience members who were too young to understand the format, and over-utilized audience participation in general. I assume it will be much better come summer.

I did some dreaming as well while I was there. The park needs something to put them on the map, and they have space between Superman and Batwing for a signature attraction. I would love to see an Intamin pre-fab or RMC woodie in that space in a few years, after a SkyScreamer and some flats.

Any coaster is fine here. Yes, another B&M would be nice, (a good one) but here you have to understand that this park right now is arguably in the best shape its ever been. Its come so far, from a not so good place, and so everything that has been going on here is a huge improvement. Right now, with a new family coaster coming(I don't care that its used), the park is doing better to appeal to families AND thrill seekers. But a flat ride or two would be ideal for them i.e. skyscreamer and aqua twist

This park needs a NEW major coaster - not anymore moved used coasters. What sucks is the general public eat up whatever they get.

Which probably accounts for the majority of their business........so it is best to please the paying public as opposed to the smaller group of enthusiasts who could never keep the parks going by ourselves.

I think 5 years is a good estimate. The corporation is still trying to stabilize itself financially. SF will never prioritize the park, but I don't see then completely ignoring it moving forward.

At least we get things. Poor Great Escape (Which is still owned by Six Flags) doesn't get a lot. Then again that is the philosophy of that park - Small and cute.

But at least you get it. Great Escape is completely different from all the other SF properties.
