As a few people have also said. Mine changes quite frequently.

1. SAW: The Ride - Thorpe Park

2. Superman Escape - Movie World

3. Stealth - Thorpe Park

4. Nemesis Inferno - Thorpe Park

5. Colossus - Thorpe Park

As you can see, a lot of them are Thorpe Park! I'm yet to ride a woodie so I don't have a list.

By the fall this WILL change but for now:

Top 5 steel:

1. Griffon(People can say what they want about this but it delivered even after ten rides I think that says something)

2. Apollo's Chariot(less intense than Nitro but it wins purely for scenery and that awesome flying turn you really feel like your flying on this ride and that last drop is better than any of the drops on Nitro)

3. Nitro(Intense ride filled with airtime)

5. Storm Runner

Top 5 Wood(I haven't been on many but this will change by the end of the fall)

1. El Toro(nuff said)

2. Lightening racers

3. Comet

I plan on trying to make it to Kneobels and I will be making it to King's Island&Cedar Point so I'm sure this list will change.

Well, these tend to shuffle around a bit, but heading into the 2009 coastering season, here are mine:

Top 5 Steel:

1. Millennium Force, CP -- For now, this sets the standard that all other steelies need to beat.

2. Top Thrill Dragster, CP -- Yep, it's short, but I don't care. Absolutely love this thing, and it hasn't gotten old after 30+ rides on it either.

3. Phantom's Revenge, KW -- Most seismic airtime I have experienced (consistently too!) on a steel coaster to date. I feel this is one of the most underrated coasters in the country.

4. Raging Bull, SFGAm -- Some find it a disappointment, but I thought it delivered. Loads of airtime and a winning layout.

5. Maverick, CP -- Could climb much higher with additional rerides. I've liked this one more and more after each of my 3 rides on it. I love its wide array of elements.

Top 5 Wood:

1. Voyage, HW -- My #1 overall coaster, this thing is incredibly intense and a marathon of coaster adrenaline!

2. El Toro, SFGAdv -- The airtime KING, hands down, and barely behind Voyage. Could easily flop spots if I got more rides on it, as I have a mere 1 to date.

3. Ravine Flyer II, Waldameer -- What an awesome coaster, full of airtime, visuals, and (of course) NINETY DEGREES! Great star for a nice park.

4. Phoenix, Knoebels -- A classic, plain and simple. It's funny, when I rode this I thought no other woodie could touch it. Now, 3 have surpassed it in the past 3 years.

5. Lightning Racer, HP -- Sometimes a coaster vaults up here because it's not only a great ride, but just infectious FUN to ride! LR is the perfect example of that.

Steel

1: Millennium Force (CP): I love its speed, its height, pretty much everything about it!

2: Maverick (CP): VERY CLOSE second, it's insanely fun, but with the quick turns, you really have to work to keep your head/neck from hitting the restraints.

3: California Screamin' (DCA): Just plain fun all around. I love the airtime hills!

4: Raging Bull (SFGAm): My first hyper coaster, and a very good ride all around.

5: Space Mountain: De la Terre a la Lune (RIP) (DP Paris): It may have been rough as heck, but the theming and soundtrack made this ride amazing. Too bad it's been replaced by Mission 2.

Wood

1: Viper (SFGAm): I've been on only a few woodies, and this ride is great all around.

2: Blue Streak (CP): Lots of airtime. Did I mention I've been on only a few woodies, hence why this is second?

3: Screamin Eagle (SFStL): I went on this probably over 10 years ago. All I remember is that I like it.

4: American Eagle (SFGAm): I actually don't like this ride. I've just been on so few woodies that I have to put it down.

5: Mean Streak (CP): Yeah, it's in my top 5, but only because I've only been on 5 (My sig says 6 because it counts both tracks of American Eagle as separate rides, and I don't). I really need to get to Great Adventure and ride El Toro.

in my sig.

Took to page 4 for someone to put the Voyage.

I think to really appreciate the Voyage, you have to ride it just before riding other "top tier" coasters.

I rode Beast which I put at #3 on my list on day 1.

Then rode The Voyage on day 2 28 times.

Then went back to KI and rode Beast again. It seemed less than half of itself after riding The Voyage a day earlier. It then fell out of my top 5.

The Voyage truly is the measuring stick of wooden coasters.

This list (especially the wooden one) may change later this year, but unless I get a new credit it will probably stay pretty much the same.

Wood:

1. Ghostrider-Although this ride is rough, it is still overall a great ride and is the best out of the few wooden roller coasters I have actually experienced.

2. Mean Streak-This is only up here because I believe that with a major retracking job it could be a great ride, and has just gotten so bad due to negligence on the part of Cedar Fair, just like Ghostrider's story.

3. Colossus-The classic out and back wooden coaster that, despite a lack of airtime, is still good for one or two rides per visit.

4. Roar-I'm not a huge fan of wooden twisters, but this is a great example of one, although it is a little on the short side.

5. Psyclone-Although this ride could break your back, at least it's better than Grizzly.

Steel:

1. Maverick-This ride contains just about everything anyone could want in a roller coaster: heights, drops, airtime, twists, inversions, speeds, a launch and a semi-traditional lifthill.

2. Tatsu-Very close second to Maverick, only behind it because it doesn't have as great of variety and is reliant on a gimmick, although only slightly.

3. Silver Bullet-Even though this is a tamer inverted roller coaster, it is one of the few rides I can ride several times in a day (3 or more) without getting bored or sick of the ride.

4. Top Thrill Dragster-There is nothing I have been on that compares to the thoughts you have as you go over the top of the 420 ft tower and look straight down.

5. Scream-This is a good ride that isn't just reliant on a gimmick, but it is getting a little old and the layout is just inversion, inversion, inversion, inversion, inversion...it is fairly uninteresting.

Unlike a lot of people who have been to Cedar Point, I am not a huge fan of Millennium Force because it seems like once you go down the first drop the ride has more straight track than anything else and doesn't really have much airtime or force. Maybe one ride isn't enough to get the true feeling of this ride but I just think it is way overhyped.

Steel top 5 (of 768)

1. Expedition GeForce - Best first drop anywhere. Great Airtime.

2. S:RoS - SFNE - Great ride, great pacing, great airtime.

3. Eagle Fortress - Absolute insanity at it's finest!

4. Kawasemi - It's amazing how many positive, negative and lateral forces can be in such a small ride!

5. Kumba - B&M's finest (with honorable mentions to Dragon Kahn, Nemesis and Superman / la Atracción de Acero)

Wood top 5 (of 162)

1. T-Express - Speed and airtime extreme.

2. Ozark Wildcat - Great, relentless, out-of-control ride.

3. Voyage - Nice long ride that does a little bit of everything (pretty well too).

4. Hades - Great ride, best tunnel, does quite a bit over the course.

5. Tonnere de Zeus - Very powerful, relentless ride.

  • 7 years later...

This thread hasn't been posted in about eight years, and since down is up and up is down lately, let's have at it.

Maverick

Skyrush

I305

Phantoms Revenge

Millennium Force

I wonder if a much anticipated trip down to Florida later this year will shake up the top 10 steel?

I don't have a ton of wood credits.

El Toro

Lightning Racer

Wild One

Jack Rabbit (KW)

Great White

Will I finally be able to consider Phoenix in my favorite after this coming season? Stay tuned to find out.

Im sure if I been to as many parks are most others here my lists would be a lot better but anyways here goes:

Steel-

1.M-Force

2.Top Thrill Dragster

3.Mavrick and Magnum id say is a tie for me as they are both on the same level and fun in different ways

4.Ride of Steel at Darien Lake although I haven't been there since 2005 but i remember it being an epic coaster(yea the straight tracks were a little long at some parts but most of the coaster was a lot of fun

5.Shiekra and Valravn-Yes these may not be the most intense for the most part, but I think their tall straight drop dives are a lot of fun and kind of intense in a way.

Wood-

1.Goliath at Great America yes its short but still A LOT of fun also its the only RMC I been on. I would like to go on more one day

2.Voyage

3.Hades I know its an unpopular choice but i still remember enjoying it a lot. Was intense and fast. One thing I didnt like about it though was the fact it slammed my side up against the side of the coaster in the tunnel.

4.American Eagle at Great America

5.Ledgend Holiday World

Boy how I wish my wood coaster list was more exciting though....kinda of disappointed with my own list :/ Meh hopefully in the future I will go to many more parks. For example im sure if I went to Great Adventure El Toro would of been my top wood coaster.
