Photo TR: Dutch Wonderland 5/4/08

The original plan for yesterday was to hit up a park a few hours away so I could get some credits. However, the weather people were predicting thunder storms, which are never good news at a park, so we decided not to go. Wake up yesterday morning and of course there's not a cloud in the sky and it's 70 degrees. "SCREW YOU, WEATHERMEN!" we said, and started thinking of what park to go to instead. Never waste a good weather day! We considered Dorney, but Voodoo's not open yet. The only logical conclusion was... DUTCH WONDERLAND!!

DSCF0155.jpg.490a21aac7420c99f74379ec111854ad.jpg

And Derek learned how to milk a cow. More pictures to come shortly!!!

The log flume didn't work, so we decided to learn how to be Amish; maybe THAT would lead us to the Lady Gay. Here I am driving a buggy.

...and a chick who's umbrella is totally working the wrong way.

DSCF0152.jpg.a2dcac73163af6349bd0eaa280e6322e.jpg

There's also a tunnel... a REALLY AWESOME tunnel with mist!!

DSCF0150.jpg.f5f81e5a400e19f93490ba42272b88fe.jpg

The log flume has 2 drops. The tiny one makes the bigger splash!

DSCF0139.jpg.70220d0a0d0ae53e23fbfceed920fa66.jpg

We rode it in the hopes that we could channel the spirit of the Lady Gay, seeing as they are sister boat rides after all.

Right next to Kingdom Coaster is the park's log flume.

DSCF0148.jpg.a8312e5983d26c9a9cba1818d1c6538a.jpg

Did you know that Kingdom Coaster was CCI's first coaster?

If your children are misbehaving on your trip to Dutch Wonderland, you can put them in this cage, cleverly disguised as a "fun scooter maze".

Did anyone else used to have these in their gym class??? I sure did! I LOVED these things!

Up the lift hill.

This picture is boring.

The coaster formerly known as Sky Princess is right next to Joust.

Hooray for credit #239!

Over to the coaster corner of the park, we rode Joust first.

DSCF0135.jpg.87e0eff1cfa6a1bdd870a0a6107591f7.jpg

Across the suspension bridge, our quest for the Lady Gay began.

Very cute castle entrance to this geared-toward-kids park

DSCF0132.jpg.27446c0a67d6d0f493143344a14293f7.jpg

The park is in the middle of a highway with a bunch of businesses all around it.

We started off the day at Iron Hill, because what trip to Lancaster would be complete without it??

Dutch Wonderbushes!! I'll post more pictures later on tonight!

And obligatory "Derek and Nicole being cute on a skyride" picture.

Next, we rode the sky ride. Here's an overview of one section of the park.

DSCF0175.jpg.15b17a35119a97d18e95009a5b0dfb9a.jpg

And there's a TURTLE! Best boat ride ever!

The park's dragon mascot is there, and his head moves and he talks. But you can't understand what he says!

You ride in a log around a little lake.

The next stop on our quest was the Dragon's Lair, the closest thing to a "dark ride" at the park

DSCF0168.jpg.b164f0654272dc2e465641b4f9217e67.jpg

And here's the Voyager. Both were kind of boring, but I've been spoiled by Disney World...

DSCF0166.jpg.73460611dd42301bacbadcb99c26dbba.jpg

A bit of simulator history.

DSCF0165.jpg.5b0a0e20aedb205ae5b65e50eaa91d22.jpg

Over to the simulator corner of the park... they have an old Astroliner right next to a "top of the line" simulator

You sit on this bench and the room spins around you. It's very disorienting!

The Dutch Wonder House. The granddaddy of the Vekoma Madhouse.

Next is something really cool.

DSCF0158.jpg.3d5e67bd51bb9c1a057e08bccfb560ff.jpg

YES!! The TURTLE Whirl!! We got it to spin pretty good too!

OMG! Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing??

What? No Amish people pretending to be Amish-check? If you don't get that comment, check out the photos from Robb and Eliss'a 2003 trip.

Nice trip report and photos, and Dutch Wonderland looks like a nice "little" park. Sure it is geared towards kids, but it still looks like a lot of fun to visit.

We decided to walk through the path.

DSCF0214.jpg.612c07a7b3dcfc1bca7aca96ee4f44e6.jpg

And then a random cow popped out at us. WTF?! Well, it wasn't as scary as the Alton Towers log flume.

Our next stop was YET ANOTHER boat ride. I could feel the Lady Gay was near!

And they had a dive show themed to the Frog Prince.

The park has the most transport rides ever. There's a monorail, a skyride, and the train.

More from the skyride... here are the antique cars, we did not ride them.

The Astroliner rules! It's so incredibly lame it has to be experienced!

I love the mad house, too--DW is a fun place to kill a few hours.

This looks like such a cute little park, I can't help but snigger every time I hear "Lady Gay Tugboat" - all I can say is throw me to the lesbians (Coaster Expedition 10 DVD reference).

I'll have to check how far this is from Hershey.

Great PTR, but why did you not ride the Lady Gay? People take photos of it, but to be a true Dutch Wonderland fanboy (er, fangirl), you need to ride the Lady Gay. It's fantastic!

Did anyone else used to have these in their gym class??? I sure did! I LOVED these things!

Those are Roller Racers! We didn't have them in gym class, but my neighbors across the street had them. I think they even had those at Opryland back in the 80's. There was a little gated-off section where you could ram into each other with them.

Yes! You know, I was sitting at a stop light at lunchtime today trying to remember what those things were called. How odd that they would pop up in a random TR less than 12 hours later.

We had them in gym class, but I could never figure out how to work them correctly. I remember they used to advertise them incessantly on Saturday morning TV.

My cousins had a couple of them when I was younger. Used to have so much fun on them.

Hmm--I recall that picture. I think those folks were Mennonites, not Amish (at least that's what it seemed like from their clothes). Mennonites have similar religious beliefs, but unlike the Amish, they can use modern conveniences, such as telephones, cars, and dishwashers.

My Dad's favorite tranmission repairman was a Mennonite in Modesto, Calif., where there's a pretty good size community of people who subscribe to that religion.

Trust me, the ONLY reason we didn't ride the Lady Gay is because we ran out of time! That stupid other boat ride took WAY too long! If we'd had more time, we would have ridden the Lady Gay and sang Cher songs the whoooole ride.

Can we really still call them canadian geese? They never go home anymore

That is funny...yet so true! We have so many of them in Western NY now that my golf course that I am a member of has turned into quite the haven for these geese each year and they make a real mess of the greens! Perhaps, they do not have the proper ID or a passport to cross the border now, so the US won't let them back into the country? It now appears that they have taken up residency here in Western NY - not too far from the Canadian border!

Anyway...the golf course owner actually called in a couple of guys that reminded me of 'Cletus - The Slack-Jawed Yocal' on the scene to ummm...properly dispose of some of the geese that were running rampant on the course. Some friends and I had been golfing and it was just starting to turn dusk and all of a sudden we look two holes over and here are these people just randomly shooting at geese in the middle of the fairway! Needless to say, we didn't get shot, but we met the same guys in the parking lot when our round was finished and they were all yukking it up about "how many geese they nailed!" It was kinda freaky!

Yes, there are quite a few Mennonites around where I live and they are quite the friendly bunch! Me and my BF ate with an older Mennonite couple that we were paired up with at a Japanese steakhouse in Erie. They were quite pleasant and were very curious about our "normal" life and we were curious about their lifestyle, as well. We really enjoyed their conversation!!!

oke uhm, I really hope this isn't how you americans think of us dutch people, except for the cow they are everywhere

looks like a small park which could be fun if you live right next door or just want the credit (so it should be fun for half of the tpr-community!)
