Thanks for posting everything this TR is very interesting and a great read, its awesome to see parks that aren't always talked about.

Just a question and this is aside from amusement parks, while you were in Kuala Lumpur did you ever go up in the Petronas Towers?

Yes we did. IMO the Petronas Towers are the most attractive buildings I have ever seen. I guess it has something to do with the stainless steel exteriors, but I really loved them.

Every morning they hand out tickets for free to the sky bridge on the 41st floor. Once your time comes they take you up for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, just as we got up to the bridge it started to pour so we didn't get any scenic views, but it was really neat. I highly recommend visiting the Petronas Towers if you are in KL. I have some pics on my flickr page if you are interested.

Shawn Coomer - Just go into the Singapore & Malaysia group.

Thanks again!

The first park seems nice, but is it honestly Disney? Because it doesnt seem to have the Disneyish look like Walt Disney World or Disneyland.

The second park though is REALLY NICE! That's some beautiful scenery and great theming! Just curious though, the first coaster you see upon entering the park (the mine train) is a Vekoma right? And is Vekoma the only company that designs and builds mine train roller coasters?

I guess it is time for the next installment. After leaving Sunway Lagoon we stopped at a twelve story shopping mall on the way back to the hotel. This mall, Times Square Kuala Lumpur is home to an indoor space themed park called Cosmo's World.

Cosmo's World is housed on floors 6-10 of the mall and is a really neat park. Dominating the entire interior is a coaster called Supersonic Odyssey.

Supersonic Odyssey was manufactured by Intamin and is the best indoor looping roller coaster I have ever been on. (Sorry Canyon Blaster and Rock 'N Roller Coaster) The coaster station is located on the 8th floor. Instead of going into a lift the coaster starts down a hill from the station into a banked turn and then a heartline roll.

Following that fun filled section is the lift hill which is followed by a loop and a corkscrew along with quite a few fast banked turns. I was only able to ride the coaster four times since they only dispatched every twenty minutes or so. Unfortunately for me the park was dead.

Not only was this coaster a huge surprise, the park itself was really neat and the operations were great. I just can't repeat how awesome and surprising this coaster was. Speaking from the future, I have now been to eight parks in Southeast Asia and this coaster is in a class by itself in comparison to others in this area.

It has been a lot of fun reading everyone's comments. If you are enjoying this thread let me know!

And finally if you didn't know what a twelve story shopping mall looks like! (I couldn't capture all of the floors in one picture!)

Ok one last coaster shot. The coaster twists as it goes through the mouth. It was my favorite part of the coaster!

Coasterking - No, actually there was literally no one in the park and I had to wait twenty minutes between dispatches so they could get more people to ride.

Nursemelis- Thanks. This trip has truly been a dream come true! Our trip is starting to wind down and we should be home in the next couple of months. Thirteen straight months of travel has left us all a bit tired!

I wish it was ALWAYS like that in every park you go. But that'll never happen, except on a few days. That Intamin looks great, and so do the other parks and coasters you and your family have visited! Which was your particular favorite (park and coaster) from the trip?

I am from Singapore and I visited the Berjaya cosmo park quite a few times over the last few years as it's within about a 4 hour bus ride from Singapore to KL, Malaysia. I can say that the indoor coaster is real smooth and one of the better few indoor intamins. Besides the food around town too, cosmo is definately one of the few places to check out if you are around South east asia for a visit.

The sunway lagoon park is rather disappointing though, there had not been much developments in the park since the early 90s when it opened and when I last visited. The mine coaster actually had few casualties (such as people flying off the ride), so it's really toned down alot since then.

packfanlv, did you visit the Genting highlands and theme park? its not too far off from KL in Pahang, Malaysia. They have an outdoor park with a simple corkscrew coaster together with a zeppelin flying coaster, the rest are indoor in a place they call "first world plaza".

For those who want to see more of Genting highlands and a video of some POV of the coasters, I have an old video compiled from one of my trips, I believe I have a short POV of the berjaya intamin near the end of the video if I am not wrong, together with a photo album as well:

Things will be really cool back here in Singapore when our integrated resorts and universal studios get completed here sometime in 2010.

Coasterking - As far as favorite park I would have to say Dream World in Bangkok because of its rip off Disney characteristics. I will have a TR on that in the future. The best ride was definitely Supersonic Odyssey in Cosmo's World.

ShaunZer - Yes we visited Genting Highlands. In fact that will be my next TR on this thread. To give you a little sneak peak of my opinion, I HATED IT!

More on that in the next TR. Thanks for the comments. Keep em up.

yes, genting is a really old park, with the exception of the indoor rides, the park really has nothing much to brag about in terms of it's coasters for thrill seekers.

Did you stay at the first world hotel in Genting? it may be one of the biggest, but one of the worst hotels there.

The smaller surrounding hotels there are much better if you prefer a better quieter place to appreciate the highlands, though, you won't get a shopping arcade right at your doorstep.

We did stay at the First World Hotel so that we could say that we stayed in the Biggest Hotel in The World. Yes it is absolutely horrible. During our stay we renamed it the Third World Hotel for obvious reasons. I wish that we had stayed in one of the other nicer hotels, but we can't go back now.

^Never say never. Who knows what the future will bring. If you asked me a few years ago if I would be able to take over a year off to travel the world with my family, I think I would have laughed. Amazing things are possible if we just open our minds to them. Life is truly a blessing and so many amazing things can happen! Visiting rare theme parks in other countries is just a very small part of that.

Shawn,

Great photos! The coaster really looks astounding. I think the thing that I truly dig about parks in the East is the bright, almost eye-spinning, color schemes and the way the parks are presented. Not that there's anything wrong with great US parks like Indiana Beach or Compounce or some of the Flags, but it seems to me that the way they are laid out and the colors/atmosphere that they employ give it almost a jovial, surreal feel to the whole experience. If this has already been said by other posters, I apologize for the duplicity.

Thanks again and sounds like a fantastic and exhausting trip!

Scott
