Guest
My coaster season always starts off with a group tour of my favorite park, Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT to see improvements, additions, and just generally finding out what goes on to get a park ready for the summer crowds. A brief overview of what was mentioned: The park is happy with Reunidos. They have been very supportive of the park's waterpark expansion by offering to pay for it to be completed now, but respectful of Jerry's management style of slowly growing. The proposal for the waterpark includes a new Roller Soaker style sit down coaster and a Splash Battle. Ghost Hunt's new trackless vehicles are currently at the park and the ride is being prepped for them. They will handle 4 people per car as apposed to the old ones which were 3 people per car, and will have more vehicles overall, increasing the ride's capacity (I believe this was one of the lowest PPH rides at the park). The park will be giving the LED strip lights on Wave Swinger another chance. The old set burnt up after electrical mismatches (they were made in Europe if I remember correctly). They will now be using converter boxes obviously, so hopefully these work out as they are much more efficient than traditional bulbs. The park bid on the Frog Hopper from Wild West World's yard sale that Holiday World ended up winning. I believe Compounce won the CP Hunnington train, but I can't remember. Wildcat will hopefully be a smoother, more family oriented ride this year. New fly bridges with extra ledgers were added to reduce some of the potholes. The park did the work themselves, however GCI advised what to do. The work on Boulder Dash has been completed. Everything but the lift, brakes/station area, and last drop has been retracked by GCI. Like Wildcat, many fly bridges were added to avoid potholes in the future. Some structure was also replaced on the flyby next to the staion (which I think was a problem spot, as there was new wood on it every time I was at the park). The tricktrack has been replaced with a hill into an interesting double up, which looks like it could have a couple nice pops of air with lats too (the double up also turns). The ride will not receive a trim brake this year. They would like to see how it breaks in before worrying about this. The ride will most likely get magnetic brakes to replace the pinch brakes next year though, as they're more reliable and efficient. The Hershey Wildcat trains were rebuilt and painted blue and green, and the headrests were removed. The ride will have the new style dividers for this season, but Jerry will look into getting the old style put in next year. A pano of Boulder Dash. coastercrazed49
The park is looking awesome. Even though its fairly close to where I live, my family has never made an effort to get there. That water coaster looks really interesting. Is it coming in 2009?
Guest
I'm not sure when the coaster will be coming. They're still waiting on the town for the road move. If I remember correctly they want to have phase 1 done by 2010. Here is a master plan for the waterpark. You should try to get down there some time, the park has great atmosphere and they have an amazing coaster.
