Root Beer recipes

Recommended Posts

Since tasting Root Beer (Can't buy RB anywhere in the UK) when I was in Ohio a couple of years ago, I deicded to buy 24 cans of A&W from a website which imports American food.

Someone suggested I added Ice Cream to it as this makes the drink taste better.

Can anyone else suggest adding anything else to Root Beer.

What you are saying is called a Root Beer Float, and yes, they are very tasty.

I personally enjoy making root beer slushies, where you gently blend the soda with some ice, and add anything that you want to it, like ice cream, or maybe some cherry liquor to give it a little extra flavor and a kick.

I've been trying all kinds or Root Beers from the local BevMo. Boylans is good, but Dad's Old Fashioned is still my favorite.

Virgil's was also quite good, really complex with some interesting things used. (like anise)

Virgil's claims to be from the UK, so I'd be very surprised if you can't get it at a specialty shop... Here's the website...

By the way, root beers like that which include many spices are probably not the best for Root Beer floats.

If you're interested in making your own root beer, this place might be a good way to start: http://www.leeners.com/rootbeer.html
