^What would getting an Intamin "every four years" have to do with not getting another Intamin later? It seems the park has been pretty happy with their Intamin rides so far.

I don't know, Skyrush seems like the last of a deal with Intamin, because Stormrunner is red, Fahrenheit is orange, and to close it off, a yellow coaster. Just my thinking.

Strange logic - how does that work? If we're doing colors of the rainbow, they have green, blue, indigo and violet left!

This is my favorite thing I've ever seen on this website. Ever.

 

Seriously though, they haven't finished the rainbow yet! Maybe they'll go all-out and throw indigo in there. Hershey definitely feels like a bunch of rebels to me - not one to follow the 2012 rainbow!

How crowded is the park usually on the day after July 4th? Heading down there tomorrow to ride SkyRush finally. The weather looks to be perfect and hopefully the heat will drive everyone to the water park

 

also, re: the 2nd train getting the new restraints - is that definitely happening right after July 4th? I'd hate for there to only be one train running when I go

Hey guys just 2 more questions, (Sorry for asking this many, but this will be my last chance to go here for a LONG time..)

First, what rides should I hit with the nighttime preview pass and in what order? I have to do Skyrush tomorrow so I can get it as #100! (I'm at 91 now!)

 

Second, Is it train one or two that has the better restraints? Is there any way you can tell a difference of the trains? I will let other people go in front of me

^I'm hoping for the waterpark to be the main draw on Friday and Saturday. Only problem is I need the Roller Soaker credit... any tips on getting that credit with less than a 20 min wait?

 

The best way I can suggest is the same as Fahrenheit. Get there first.

I forgot to mention somethings!!

 

I did not buy the line skipper option at the park. I do not think theirs is worth it. I do not like that you can not pick your seat!!! I much prefer Cedar Fairs where you can ride as much as you want and the two lines come together (usually) and you can pick your seat. There was barely anyone using it when I was there so they let anyone just sit in them seats - which was nice.

 

However, I did notice a lot of people using the VIP option where someone escorts you around the park. I think that is silly but to each their own.

 

The last thing I wanted to say is the loading and unloading of trains and rides. A lot of the employees were being VERY SLOW! Half of the time they did not fill the trains on the coasters even though every coaster at points in the day had at least a 30-45 minute wait. I noticed a lot of stacking with the coasters. It took the employees in the AM at the Claw almost 10 minutes to unload and load each time. Their was no communication on this ride. The guy worker just did not even bother there were 5 empty seats and shut the restraints as the girl worker was letting more people in to fill them. I did notice on some rides they would call out next group of 2 or any singles, but that was rare. When I was in line at the Sidewinder for the front seat the workers were chatting about their personal lives and than they started about how the line dropped down to almost nothing. The girl worker stated she wished they would all just leave. As a consumer basically paying your paycheck with my admission to the park, I do not want to hear that.

That is something that would annoy me enough to get her name and complain to guest services or management about that. That is unprofessional and rude- obviously she does not want to have a job there.

What is with this park and all the reports of bad operators? Hershey is supposed to be a happy place!

 

Do any of the rides have "older ops" this year? Last time I went Lightning Racer was being run by this awesome group of senior citizens who were both friendly and dispatching like crazy. If they can do it, everyone else can!

 

I'm just speculating here, but maybe Hershey needs older/more experienced/higher paid "team leaders." I noticed that Kings Dominion often has lots of young operators and then one older "leader" who was making sure they were keeping dispatches up to par/dealing with small problems, etc. Hershey may already do this, but I think it could really help and would cut down on the BS on the platform.

Ops weren't this bad last year. I haven't been to the park this summer as I opted to not renew my season pass due to being pregnant. There were occasional issues that would pop up but these descriptions are sounding ridiculous, almost like there is no supervision at all. They do hire a lot of young people and they also have a volunteer program but from my experience, that program provides more than adequate "training" to help a crew operate any ride in the park. I hope they figure things out and get back to normal for next season.

This past weekend I was very pleased with the ride ops except for the Storm Runner Saturday night crew. As a former ride op, I know how it feels to operate late at night, especially if you have worked all day, but their lack of interest in the ride's operation was saddening really, and somewhat frustrating.

Just got back from Hershey and I have to say SkyRush is definitely one of a kind.

 

It was actually the first ride I rode since my friends wanted to. The switchbacks were full and it was really only around a 45 minute wait. Could it kill them to put some shade over the queue though? The misting fans could only do so much. Anyway, they managed to dispatch a train every ~2.5-3.5 minutes or so. I thought the crew was doing a pretty good job all things considered. They made sure to fill the blocked off rows if no fast pass riders were there. The big problem is that it takes so long for the riders to exit on the same side that by the time one train completes its course, the next riders haven't even boarded yet.

 

The lift was ridiculously fast and in the back we got a huge pop of airtime in the back. I think I greyed out every time on the first turnaround. I was actually scared to put my hands up but I did it anyway on the very last airtime hill and wow...my legs were basically forced up and my upper body forced down toward the lapbar. Definitely never experienced anything like that before.

 

I thought the ride was a bit painful on the thighs, but then again I'm scrawny and small. I haven't looked yet but I'm pretty sure the 3 consecutive rides we took later in the evening caused some bruising. SkyRush was definitely more fun than it was painful though since I rode it 5 times. I'm actually surprised by some of the lines in Comet Hollow. SDL had a full queue at the beginning of the day. I know it's only running one train right now but I've never even seen the queue come close to reaching the bottom of the stairs in the morning. But around 5pm basically everything - Comet, SDL, Great Bear, SkyRush - only had station waits.

 

As per the winged seats on SkyRush, I thought the left wing was far more intense than the right wing. Quite enjoyed the middle seats though. I think out of all 5 times I rode it I got the train with the unmodified seats. I wasn't paying particularly close attention, but if I did get the train with the noodles then it really made no difference for me.

 

Overall, SkyRush is definitely in my top 5 but it's not a ride I can re-ride over and over. I don't really see that as a problem though

^Every team leader or whatever I saw at Hersheypark on my last visit had a "since 2011 tag" or something similar and all looked very young. Age really has nothing to do with operations, though, at least as much as experience. I'm still shocked at how bad the operations were when I visited and I obviously wasn't alone with these continued reports. I hope that can get their operations together in what is other wise an absolutely amazing park...but those ops were seriously the worst I have ever experienced.

 

I will vouch to say I am a team leader, or as we call them ride leads and this is only my second year. I can say that I am experienced enough to keep operations running smoothly and be ready for any situation. Age has nothing to do with anything

^ACTUALLY, they just should get all their ride operators from TPR! I can see it now: "NO LOOSE ITEMS, this train is leaving the station in six seconds whether you are sitting down or not!"

I haven't gotten up to Hershey yet to ride it, but judging by pictures I also wondered why they didn't put any shade at all over that huge area of switchbacks...? Either they didn't have them in the budget or they wanted the view of the lift/drop clear from the queue are my only guesses.
