P. 265: Ice Breaker Opening February 2022

Think about it: Universal plans their HHN events YEAR round. So unless all of the houses and actors and everything are being hired third party, I just don't see how they can pull this off. Reminds me of that event 2 years ago near Gaylord Palms. It was OK but nothing like HHN.

I was thinking about that event when this was announced, and some of the others. I wonder if SEAS might have acquired some assests from other events in the area that didn't make it through the pandemic, set pieces, costumes, design/management talent etc. I'm sure it's possible to lease out the a haunt from a third party company so maybe there's some of that going on behind the scenes to put this on. Of all places in America Orlando is probably a pretty good market to create an event from scratch in 6ish months and have it be halfway decent.

Six Flags Darien Lake put its Fright Fest together in like 3 weeks the year it was last taken over by Six Flags again. I believe an outside company that came in to do the work.

That said, if it's ANYTHING like that, it will NOT be a good event.... lol.

My point is that just because they have an insane amount of work to be done doesn't mean it can't be done. Yes I know they better have higher standards but with 3 months they can definitely throw something decent together. With Howl-o-scream TAMPA reducing to 5 houses I'm guessing they will take over some of the stuff from there as well.

I'm interested to see how this will play out. It's never going to be as "good" as Horror Nights, but with smaller crowds houses I can see them being more enjoyable than the HHN conga lines... even though the sets themselves may not be as good.

I also think it's a great way for people to experience the coasters that they generally would have passed on by otherwise not visiting the park. I don't think a lot of people realize what great rides SeaWorld has. We all know, but those that go to Universal and Disney usually couldn't care less about SeaWorld. That may change when/if they get bodies into the event.

I'm definitely going to try to make it on opening weekend Saturday night. The only problem is I need to wake up early for Hollywood Studios the next morning... -- might need to replan the order of my parks.

  • 2 weeks later...

Crazy storms cleared out the park about 6pm and rained on and off the rest of the night which gave us flashbacks to our Hakugei rain ride haha.

Mako is legit! What great B&M hyper and imo America's best, but complete with the trim and mcbr that takes the edge off right when you're like 'holy crap are they gonna let this fly'.

Kraken was a disappointment for me, wow is that thing hideous!

Infinity Falls was down and we never revisited the Ice Breaker/Falls are again since it's dead.

Manta was fun by why do I have such better memories of Acrobat at Nagashima?!

In my experience the first trim doesn't bite hard or at all when the train is less than half full. Made a big difference on my rides. The biggest difference between Mako and my favorite B&M hyper, Goliath at SFOG, is that while Goliath has a similar trim that hits every time, it doesn't affect the rest of the ride the same way.

And about Kraken... yeah, it used to be one of the smoothest B&Ms you'd ever find, but the last ten years or so have not been kind to it. I still think it's a top 3 floorless though.

I had a pair of outstanding rides on Kraken toward the end of 2019. It was running perfectly. I also had two rides on Mako the same day. The first was slow and disappointing and the second was better but still weaker than I expected, especially for a warm, busy day. I wish I got the kind of ride on it that most people seem to get. I got back seat both times too which has always been the go to for B&M or really any hypers.

EDIT: It was 2019, not 18.

Kraken was running perfectly smoothly a couple weeks ago when I rode. Got a front row ride and some random middle row edge seat and found it totally fine. I'm also used to the dumpster fire of a floorless called Scream, so my expectations for what is smooth may be shifted.

SeaWorld Orlando has announced their first haunted house, scare zone and themed bar experience coming to the first ever Howl-O-Scream Orlando event starting this September!

Haunted Houses

1900x500-SWO-HOS-Haunted-Houses-DeadVines.thumb.jpg.2f90c214919c82aca14afd215860e778.jpg

Dead Vines

This is no innocent garden stroll. You’ve just wandered into a terrifying realm of ravenous plants and hidden horrors.

Something is stirring among the trees. A shiver runs down your spine as you creep forward, one timid step at a time. Is this jungle alive…or undead? There’s an ominous force at work here, a merciless mistress of ivy and evil. She’s poisoned these woods with an all-consuming appetite for visitors like you. Keep moving and find a way out before it’s too late. You don’t want to end up dead on the vine.

Scare Zones & Roaming Haunts

490x276-SWO-HOS-Witchcraft-Bayou.png.d2ebe8225084c2992308ce806a89562e.png

Witchcraft Bayou

The cult is growing, and the lure is powerful. It’s hazardous to pass through this backwater bayou, but there’s no way around. Voodoo and witchcraft aren’t real, right? Tell that to the zealous worshippers trying to shackle you with their spells. They won’t rest until your soul belongs to her too. Stay alert, or the dark magic will drag you down.

Themed Bar Experiences

490x276-SWO-HOS-Poison-Grotto.png.a57c4ed58334ac17db42f67f4ae20614.png

Poison Grotto

What’s your poison? Unwind with a refreshing concoction and explore the enticing atmosphere of this unearthly lounge. It’s a fleeting escape from the deadly vines and savage servants nearby. Just be sure to keep your eyes open and pay proper respect to the one who invited you in. You’re her guest here, and she’s always watching.

This is painfully accurate.  My sister goes to Orlando all the time to go to Disney multiple times a year and has never ever set foot in SWO.  I asked her why and it's because "well I sent to SeaWorld in San Antonio and I feel like once you've seen one you've seen them all" and my argument of "they have way better coasters in Orlando and the park is just generally much better" had no effect also she had "why would I spend Disney time at SeaWorld?"  It's definitely the black sheep park in Orlando no question.

On good days, SWO is one of my favorite parks.  Some great rides, shows, and animals.

I'll be honest, I changed my plans around for a PA trip this fall so I could make this event, BGT's event, and HHN for a night.  Seaworld til 2am was actually the tipping point.  Looking forward to it.  Never been to Universal but we love Halloween events.

SeaWorld Orlando has announced the next haunted house for their first Howl-O-Scream, Beneath The Ice.

https://seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream/haunted-houses/beneath-the-ice/

Beneath the Ice
In the icy wilderness above the Arctic Circle, a research facility was lost…buried under snow and cut off from the outside world. Something compelled you to join the rescue party, but doubt is creeping in. Was that laughter, or the wind? That shiver you feel isn’t just from the cold. These chambers aren’t just frozen tombs. They’re pulsing with unspeakable horrors, and you’ll have to stay frosty and alert to survive.

Two new themed bars have been announced for the event as well!

https://seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream/attractions/

490x276-SWO-HOS-Frozen-Terror.png.d5960e65c4345aaab580da8a5f83099b.png

Frozen Terror

You might think you’re a safe distance from the snow-entombed research facility, but you’re not free from the frozen horrors. This inhospitable Arctic wasteland is swarming with icy, subhuman walkers. They may have pickaxes and shovels, but they’re not here to help dig for survivors. They’re here to turn you into one of them.

490x276-SWO-HOS-Tormented.png.905c4e056f4b8f4a07510834bb303fcb.png

Tormented

This is one place where a cold frosty one is a good thing. Take refuge from the wintry terrors of the Arctic hellscape outside and do a little refueling here. If you’re feeling mischievous, you can even join in and frighten your fellow expeditioners while they’re braving the horrors beneath the ice. How’s that for refreshing?

And the first show coming to Howl-O-Scream Orlando has been announced, Monster Stomp!

1900x600-SWO-HOS-Shows-Monster-Stomp.thumb.jpg.e565ee83f734819965d12e02f3f5ef7e.jpg

https://seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream/shows/monster-stomp/

Monster Stomp
In the misty corners of Victorian-era London, a fiend known only as Jack the Ripper walks the streets. Watch him take the stage in a way you’ve never seen before in this modern rock and rhythm spectacular. Hold onto your seat as electrifying percussion, dancing, and singing combine for a show that’s as darkly entertaining as it is exhilarating.

I was waiting to hear what house would go along the old Antarctica ride path. Kudos to them for not just reusing "Frostbite" from the last Busch house that replaced an ice themed, budget-cut dark ride.

I actually think Beneath the Ice is more likely to be in Wild Arctic in the queue leading up to where the ride loads.

I’m still curious to see if they find a use for the Antarctica ride path, but I think they have to be a little more careful since that space has unique temperature conditions and it dumps out into an open-air animal area.

I immediately thought of Wild Arctic because they show a monster inside some of those caves that's in the walk through, I realize that the haunt itself probably won't be inside of that area but one can dream right?

I hadn't thought about the Antarctica ride path until you mentioned it, and the fact that SeaWorld used the old Darkastle ride path has me intrigued by that idea. I'm not super familiar with they layout of that area anymore but I'm sure there's a way to bypass the animal exhibit if they wanted to.

I'm pretty excited for this event honestly, something new so it should be fun!

I feel like there’s probably a way to do it, but for the house to be a decent length, I’d imagine they’d have to build a little more of it outside of the building. The ride path was significantly shorter than DarKastle’s and the structure is still in use for the animal experience and the queue, which Williamsburg has the luxury of using DarKastle in full. There’s a lot less real estate facility that could be used which is why I’m not positive it’ll end up becoming a house… Though that’s not to say it couldn’t become a themed bar.

A new house, scare zone and themed bar experience have been announced for Howl-O-Scream Orlando!

1900x500-SWO-HOS-Haunted-Houses-Captains-Revenge.thumb.jpeg.7841d1799d1a8287e9a8974646966e90.jpeg

https://seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream/haunted-houses/captains-revenge/

CAPTAIN'S REVENGE

A tempting and terrifying force has possessed those who once labored aboard this vessel. Against every warning, you descend into its dank underbelly in search of the captain who swore revenge on you. What grisly horror lurks around the next dimly lit corner? Creaks and groans fill the musty air. You’re surrounded by what remains of the ill-fated crew. It’s time to find a way out…before they find permanent quarters for you.

SEA OF SOULS

490x276-SWO-HOS-Sea-of-Souls.png.201a7f430d6ca5fb31c0faf0cad140b2.png

This is it…the site of that horrific shipwreck. Those marauding pirates were too arrogant to see their downfall coming, and now they’re doomed to wander through a sea of gruesome reminders. Their souls are restless, and their anger is real. They’ll never stop seeking revenge on those who’ve escaped their ghostly fate. Steer clear—if you can.

LONGSHOREMEN TAVERN

490x276-SWO-HOS-Longshoremen-Tavern.png.0e115b8b26f850215e5541348c5c1a15.png

When pirates pull into port, this be the tavern where they warm their bellies with rum. Take a break from the monsters and squalls, plant your weary hides, and join the merriment. In here, you might discover that an old SeaWorld treasure has been (partially) resurrected. They’re the Longshoremen, and they’ve been dying to entertain you again.

I'm anxious to see a map get posted for this event eventually to see where all of these haunts are going to be located. I was at the park this weekend and there was pretty much no visible construction within the park, or in the backstage areas that are visible from inside the park.

The only thing that even looked like progress was side of the Nautilus theatre next to the que for Mako had some temporary railings like an entrance, not really set up but just sitting there, and the curtain at the exit to the simulator ride in Wild Artic near the entrance to the exhibit was pulled back a little and there were some spare lumber lying around so who knows. I know there's a lot of space back in the ports of call area and the sea harbor pavilions that I'm sure will get used some how, but I'm interested to see where all these houses and themed bars end up being located.

SeaWorld Orlando has announced the newest details for this year's Howl-O-Scream!

https://seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream/attractions/?scroll-to=haunted-houses

HAUNTED HOUSES

WATER'S EDGE INN

1900x500-SWO-HOS-Haunted-Houses-WatersEdgeInn.thumb.jpeg.055deee893e07df3780c67889a14a553.jpeg

What began as an escape to a peaceful seaside hotel has turned into a terrifying struggle to find an escape from it.

This inn sure doesn’t look like the pictures in the review. From the moment you arrive, you can feel that something is terribly wrong. Every crumbling hallway and decaying room is crawling with restless souls. Maybe those wild stories about this place’s sea-crazed owner and his search for the sirens were true all along. Having second thoughts about checking in? Don’t worry, the staff will be right with you…everywhere you turn.

TERRIFYING SHOWS

SIRENS' SONG

1900x500-SWO-HOS-Shows-Sirens-Song.thumb.jpeg.030c3ba6ef6c904d262fb5e6311195c5.jpeg

The sirens are here to tell their story…and feast on your fears. Don’t miss a moment of this mesmerizing outdoor show.

Who's behind all these ominous occurrences? Here’s your chance to find out…if you have the courage to face her, and the ones she’s summoned to help her carry out the carnage. Prepare for special effects, hypnotic dancing, and spine-chilling savagery in this outdoor spectacle. This is the story of the sirens, and it’s not for the faint of heart.

SCARE ZONES

DEADLY AMBUSH

490x276-SWO-HOS-Deadly-Ambush.png.018d42f9dc2001f37972a14706863ca8.png

The year is 1961. You’ve wandered into a quaint campground, nestled in nature. It might sound like a dream, but a new nightmare has just begun here. What’s happened to the campers? Creatures are emerging from the darkness. There’s nowhere to hide, and no park ranger to rescue you. Get back to civilization now, before it’s too late.

THEMED BAR EXPERIENCES

SIRENS' LAST CALL

490x276-SWO-HOS-Sirens-Last-Call.jpeg.de3f5896fa000c0490572141cbe2d9e6.jpeg

Creatures of the shadows need a place to play too. Could it be this rusted-out underground warehouse? Glance around and do your best to blend in. The regulars here are followers of the siren, and they know how to spot an outsider. Be sure to pay homage to her by trying the bar’s signature drink, “The Siren's Kiss.”

HOWL-O-SCREAM RIDES IN THE DARK

It wouldn’t be a SeaWorld visit without a ride or two, but it wouldn’t be Howl-O-Scream without a dose of nighttime terror. After nightfall, every moment of fun comes with a splash of fear. Enjoy Mako, Orlando's tallest and fastest coaster, and Infinity Falls, Florida's tallest rapids ride, in the DARK!

660x410-SWO-HOS-Night-Attractions.jpeg.bae9930e25c32a9c1322eec89a8c043a.jpeg

I also noticed something of note in the description for the Front Line Fear Extreme... One of the houses will have bonus rooms accessible exclusively by Front Line Fear Extreme ticket holders.

I'm still excited about this event but man only having Mako and Infinity Falls open is a little disappointing. It feels like the majority of this event will be in the far side of the park around those attractions, I'm guessing the shows will be in the Nautilus theatre and Bayside Stadium, so I'm assuming that's why Kraken and Manta aren't included but it's still a little disappointing.

I'll still go, but my hype-level for this did drop quite a but just now.

I'm shocked they're not running all of their coasters since they only have three and Busch Tampa is running eight this year. With 4 houses and 2 rides (and only one that anyone really wants to ride at 1:00 in the morning) what exactly are you supposed to do for 7 hours?

Yeah I hope so, I know I read somewhere that the event won't use the main entrance but will use a separate entrance somewhere over by the pavilions so maybe it's an issue with keeping the Halloween event area secure while they're clearing the rest of the park. If that's the case surely they could find a way to  stagger the opening of Manta after the event starts or something?

I also wonder if the sharks pavilion will be open during the event. I mean it's right there so hopefully it is, but I have a feeling it won't be.

Wait a sec.  Looking at this new info tonight.

They are trying to get ~$100 to skip the lines on 4 houses and 2 rides?  And up to $150 on Saturdays to skip lines unlimited times on 4 houses and 2 rides?  Who is buying that?

If I can't get through 4 houses and get a few laps on Mako in 7 hours, something is seriously wrong with the park, operations and the event.  Maybe if I only had an hour or two and wanted to do everything.
