That turn around looks dang near an inversion. This is one eye catching coaster and really compliments Sea Worlds already great skyline. Kudos to Sea World for adding a great addition to an already great park. Also a shout out to Tillikum and hoping he has a quick recovery from his illness.

Driving around the park yesterday night gave me a great view of the completed ride... Mako is one gorgeous coaster--one that I'm hoping will deliver as much for the ride experience as it does for the visual experience.

Today I had the chance to stop in for a quick visit to see the latest progress on Mako, which if you haven't heard just completed installation of the last track segment! Work continues on installing the ride's brakes, nets and theming the surrounding areas. The ride station is gaining new detail by the day and it looks like the ride could start testing within the next few weeks.

I see you Mako!

The turnaround is now visible from the entrance of the Kraken plaza.

These hills look like they will provide some great floater air.

The ride's final turnaround was successfully installed at the end of last week.

Installation of the Sharks Realm marquee is nearly complete.

Another look at the shipwreck-inspired sign.

Another shark in the pavement has appeared near the Sharks Realm sign.

Mako now towers within view of Shark Encounter.

The last portion of the ride swoops over the guest pathway with some really gorgeous looking maneuvers.

Installation of the ride's netting over all guest areas continues now that track installation is complete.

The turn towards the water's edge looks like there will be plenty of landscaping work to do.

This will be a great view for non-riders.

In other news, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin will soon debut a non-rider ride line for guests that want to bypass the ride experience and go straight to the animal exhibit at the end.

Thank you so much for this update! I am loving this coaster, it is looking like a great ride. Can't wait to ride it, it may become one of my favorites! They really thought about how the ride looks through the park! Does anyone know how long it normally takes to install nets and other electrical lines?

Mako is absolutely stunning and totally photogenic! I love how it seems to be a bit different than your average B&M hyper since it includes some more twisty sections and speed hills, and I can't wait to ride it in July!

The video of Tilikum was amazing and sad at the same time, I dare any animal lover to watch that and not get a bit teary eyed! I made a small donation to the Sea World fund for him and all the other animals they take care of so well! This summer will be my first visit to SWO and to Universal Florida, mainly for Harry Potter, and at first I was only looking forward to HP being an enthusiast for the books, movies, and roller coasters. It wasn't until I started looking into Sea World after my mom told me that's where she wanted to visit the most, that I realized that they may have the best roller coaster line-up in Orlando, especially with the addition of Mako! This ride looks to be amazing.

We will be at Sea World on a Saturday in early June. I hope that Mako will be open, at first I was hesitant, but surely by finishing the track now they'll be open in 2 months! Even though they have amazing rides, I'm betting on not too many people riding roller coasters at Sea World since it's not known as being a "thrill park," compared to its Orlando rivals. I wish we could be there during the week, but our time is limited and we know that Universal will be busier, thus we'll hit it on the weekdays and Sea World on the weekend.

Overview

Last Generation Educational Encounters

We’re making historic announcements at SeaWorld, including ending orca breeding, introducing new, inspiring and natural orca encounters, and launching new partnerships to protect oceans and marine animals. We’re creating a new vision for SeaWorld that will help us deliver on our mission that every guest who walks through our doors will be inspired to take action to help protect wild animals and wild places.

When SeaWorld opened its doors more than 50 years ago, killer whales were feared and even hunted. Now, they are among the most beloved marine mammals on the planet thanks, in part, to the inspirational encounters we’ve provided to more than 400 million guests.

The new vision for SeaWorld reflects changes in society and SeaWorld’s evolution with those changes, including ending killer whale breeding, new inspiring natural orca encounters, and new partnerships to protect oceans and marine animals.

While these decisions represent a shift in our business, they do not change our core values and purpose: to protect animals in the wild and inspire our guests to join us in this critical mission.

SeaWorld President & CEO Joel Manby talks about these historic announcements in a letter to the Los Angeles Times.

Last generation of killer whales

The killer whales in our care will be the last at SeaWorld. We haven’t taken a whale from the wild in nearly 40 years. Now, we’re going further and will end our orca breeding programs as of today. With the skills and dedication of our entire SeaWorld team, we will protect and care for these whales – here at our parks – for the rest of their lives where guests will continue to view and be inspired by them.

New, inspiring, natural orca encounters rather than theatrical shows

We will introduce new, inspiring, natural orca encounters rather than theatrical shows, as part of our ongoing commitment to education, marine science research and the rescue of marine animals. Everything will reflect the natural world and will focus on the research, education, care and respect that align with our mission to advance the well-being and conservation of these beautiful creatures. These programs will focus on orca enrichment, exercise and overall health, and the change will start in our San Diego park next year, followed by San Antonio and then Orlando in 2019.

New partnership to protect oceans and marine mammals

We are pleased that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) supports the changes we announced today. These two leading organizations are coming together for an agreement that will further both groups’ missions. SeaWorld and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) are joining together in a partnership focused on the health of our oceans and the animals that call them home. HSUS and SeaWorld have common ground, in that both of our organizations love animals and want to protect them. The partnership helps each group extend its own mission and is based on their joint interest in preserving and protecting wild animals and the places they live. The issues around animal conservation and protection are much bigger than any one organization, and we can be much stronger together.
