California Great America (CGA) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

In fact, the longer Knott's waits to start construction the more I wonder if indeed they are getting the first Raptor. This was my original thought, but with the Boomerang site cleared and with the Raptor still in the testing stage I figured it had to be something else. Surely they'd want to get construction going right awsy and the Raptor was nowhere near ready. But now it's been almost a month since demo was complete and the Raptor has since finished testing and has been painted. I'm starting to think that just maybe the Raptor is going to Knott's and that begs the question, "what is CGA getting?" And I agree a Sky Rocket I mages more sense. But would that count as a renewed relationship?

Yeah, I'm not ready to jump aboard the Sky Rocket I train just yet. It doesn't really fit the "new type of coaster" or "renewed relationship" bill, and it also doesn't feel like Cedar Fair's style, unless they were going really BIG with it.

Just my opinion, but I feel like they will want to make a statement out at CGA next year. A world's first would certainly do that.

But that's just me. Maybe they are choosing to play it safe...

*"Big things" are always coming...and is thrown out there all the time. What's considered "big things" to someone, like say an enthusiast, could be completely different to what a park GM, Mayor, GP or the Dippin Dots guy thinks. Just trying to keep things in perspective. I see way too many people get their hopes up on "Big Things Coming" and get let down when it's something that doesn't interest them.

^ Yes, my friends got walk of shamed on Flight Deck. They need longer seat belts.

I rode Patriot a handful of times during the day on my last visit, only to have the walk of shame on my last attempt. The seatbelts locked and the harness clicked twice but the system said it wasn't good. So I walked off and ate my feelings in dipping dots.

The renewed relationship may be one of the most interesting parts. I may throw out there that CGA or Knotts may be getting a Chance hyper GTX. I knew Cedar Fair worked with Chance-Morgan in the past and have not worked with them since. Premier could count as the "renewed relationship," but as said they worked with the parks when they were Paramount and not yet Cedar Fair.

Basically any coaster manufacturer besides B&M and GCI could be considered a "renewed relationship," at least the way I see it. It was an incredibly vague statement.

The 110-foot height is really messing with me. I was almost certain they were getting an impulse, but not so much anymore. Can't wait to see what it ends up being. If CGA and Knott's both get coasters next year, and SWSD is adding their launch coaster, plus Adventuredome's new ride and whatever SFMM and SFDK are adding, 2018 will be a great year for the West Coast.

^ They did say that "BIG" things were coming when I was at the Patriot media day, both park gm and the mayor of Santa Clara said it themselves.

Well, for CGA I'd say any new coaster is pretty big

But, when they were telling us that I think it was really about the whole next 10 years or so. We know for a fact (just because it was in the MP and because Rehnborg pretty much told me) that they're going to make a hyper at some point, that could be 3-5 years down the road and be the "Big" thing. It doesn't necessarily mean this year would be it. Of course, I'd say a SR1, or a Hyper GTX, or a Blitz, or whatever would all be pretty big news, especially for a park that hasn't had a new coaster in 5 years.

"Big things coming"

What the hell? Did they get Tom Delonge to do the marketing for this thing whatever the hell this is because they're being so damn cryptic? But to be fair, at least gives the enthusiasts (including myself) to lose their shit analyzing this.

Thank you for calling out Tom Delonge. I think the message is far from cryptic, because theme parks always say stuff like this over small additions, but thank you.

Oooooo... WHAT IF... it's a single rail, with the single wide seating, but it's called "Whizzers Revenge"... as an inspiration to the former ride.. Mull that one over, kiddos. (of course the tire tracks can play part in that somehow)

The permit says "6 inch tall track". That leads me to lean more towards the Sky Rocket model.

However if I lived near Santa Clara I would much rather get the Single Rail because the Sky Rocket at Kennywood kinda sucks unfortunately.

Well, to be fair, and I can't believe I'm even saying this, we honestly don't know if the Raptor/Rex will suck or not.

BTW, how does the size of the track point to Sky Rocket 1? That ride actually has two different track types.

I'm talking about SR1 and I'm pretty sure RMC's track is taller than a half foot.

I have a hard time believing the CF would leave such an obvious clue as SR1=Sky Rocket 1. They are usually way more cryptic and trolling than that.

I think SR1 is a red herring. For all we know it could mean Speed Racer, or maybe nothing at all.

If only it was an Intamin Blitz themed after one of the bay area highways. Highway 17 is nice and curvy, same with highway 9, the autobahn designers also designed 280... I'll cross all 27 fingers and toes.
