California Great America (CGA) Discussion Thread

P. 476: Cedar Fair sells park land, CGA to close within the next 11 years

Recommended Posts

The stick says #10 and the master plan map lists that spot #10 which refers to a Steel Roller Coaster or Water Coaster.

Given that the area is kinda sorta close to Whitewater Falls, what I'm predicting is that they'll remove WWF in the future and use that space plus the Invertigarden for a water coaster. I could be wrong, but that's just my guess.

Looking further into it, I can definitely see now how a coaster going in to the spots of Invertigo and WWF wouldn't be that crazy.

It looks completely plausible.

The water from the remote controlled boat area has now been drained. Combine this with White Water Falls, Invertigarden, and the also closed "Beserker", and you've got a footprint for a coaster.

There are some rumors for the Demon getting some upgrades for Haunt along with being called, Demon Re-ignited

^Man! Is Berserker a "Bayern Kurve" type of ride? If so, it's a shame that they'd remove it! There aren't enough of those left as it is!

Also, is White Water Falls rumored to be getting removed, or even closed already? Sorry if these things are well known to the regulars, but I've apparently missed some of that info, focusing mostly on the Invertigarden area for expansion. If indeed all of those things are removed, that definitely opens up a nice sized footprint for a coaster, even an Intamin Blitz type like Maverick!

That it is http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/p_205_6987_californias_great_america_berserker

Unfortunately, it has low ridership. I am not sure if it has been up since the beginning of the season, but I haven't seen it running at all. White Water Falls has been closed every time I have been to the park, and there were several survey teams inspecting the area. The park already has a water park, Rip Roaring Rapids, and Loggers Run log flume. WWF's novelty was always the splash zone, but other than that, it wasn't very special or thrilling. I PRAY for an Intamin Blitz. That would really help separate itself from its neighboring park, SFDK.

I didn't even know there was an alternate version of the GT-X concept, doesn't look as intense from the animation but still looks like it has plenty of airtime

I don't see a big difference between this and the GTX.

A blitz coaster would be so perfect for that area. It could start in the Invertigarden, use the area up over there, then launch over onto the Whitewater Falls side for the second half. There's still a ton of space back there around Gold Striker's back section.

Anyone else wondering if this new coaster could be a mini-B&M dive?! It could easily be 100ft tall, and with the use of an underground tunnel, the drop could be enlongated. Just saying, but The Ledge sounds like a good name for it

I'd love to finally have a Blitz coaster on the West Coast and something like Maverick would really be a game changer for CGA. Hell, if they add a blitz and a hyper, I'll be making quite a few trips to San Jose!

I'm planning on heading to the park for the first time on Saturday the 8th (weekend after 4th of July). Are crowds manageable on Saturdays? We will not be buying Fast Lane.

Either way it shouldn't be that bad, with or without FL you're able to do the whole park in a day easily.

I mean... it fits the mold and the description from the conference call. It's also a reasonably priced coaster which is an important factor to consider when they're adding 4 coasters in one year (regardless of what the payment structure is).

The standard height seems to be 98.4 ft, though they differ between 65.6 feet and 131.3 ft so it's right in that range.

I'm just throwing it out there as a guess. The height of the station platform can easily change the overall ride height.

I'd point out that they already have something really similar, but SFMW has two frisbees so shrug.

If they did add that, at least I'd be saving a lot of money on a Gold Pass/Dining Pass/Drink Pass next year.

Very good point! The listed height on a Architectural review probably won't match the number on the manufacturer's website due to many outside factors (footing height, platform height, where 0.0' is measured from, etc.).

But there are so many options for coaster models that are around 100.5' anyway... You are right that the half pipe coaster would easily fit there though. Here's a list of coasters with a height of 110' that I'd like for CGA to get: Beast, Wicked, Incredible Hulk.

Oh gawd I hope so because then that means Knott's gets the new hotness coaster.
