coasterbill
I'm excited for the paint job and improvements to the station it'll probably end up getting, but you gotta realize it's a different situation for us out here in norcal because we've had access to Medusa for so long. Not to mention Vortex is a decidedly shorter and more boring version of Rougarou. Sure, but it's a major upgrade from what it was before. I don't expect it to be the best coaster in the park but another solid coaster is always welcome in my book, especially when it requires minimal investment so it doesn't tie up capital for future additions. Mater
Like I said, it'll look pretty. And it's going from a coaster I have 0% interest in riding to something I'll ride if there's a station wait so technically it's an improvement. Just not a very exciting one. WayCool64
For all intents and purposes, this is just like getting a new coaster. For example, we usually go to Cedar Point for a long weekend every year but we never rode Mantis. As far as we were concerned it may as well have not existed because it's only benefit was keeping people out of the lines for the much better rides. Even if it was a walk-on we wouldn't have ridden it. Now that they have Rougarou we absolutely love the thing. It's another solid ride in Cedar Point's lineup, it has great capacity so lines are generally manageable and all they had to do was switch out the trains to make a complete waste of a coaster into a fun ride. I fail to see how anyone can be disappointed by this news. My thoughts exactly. I say, good riddance to that headache-inducing death machine! Here's hoping it'll turn into a better ride. Henry M
All I have to say is that with my personal experience of stand up rides, I love them, and think they are really different and cool. It makes me sad to see them going and being turned into a more standard ride. One day, people will be crowding to the closing day of the last ever stand up coaster with tears in their eyes. Maybe not, but for me it is a shame to see this, but from the response from other people on the forum, it must be worth it. I look forward to seeing the reviews. MrSum1_55
This was actually not too surprising for me, as this has been rumored for several years. But it is a great change nonetheless. I imagine this will be the third best ride in the park. And for a park with only two other coasters worth re-riding, this will actually be a pretty descent boost to the lineup. I have ridden every operating standup in the US except SFOG's, and I would prefer any one of them as a floorless. If a B&M hyper comes next, which is looking more and more possible, then they would have a pretty serious coaster selection.

GCI Wooden
But it doesnt have the horrid new vest restraints so be happy What's wrong with the new vest restraints? Never experienced them. I've heard that they push down on some people's collar bones, making the ride uncomfortable for them. Personally, I love the vest restraints, and wish that every B&M could be retrofitted with them because I find them to be some of the most comfortable restraints out there. I have no idea why a park would opt for the older style restraints when given the option of the new vests (Although, vests are significantly wider than the original restraints, so it may not have been an option in the floorless conversions). A.J.
On older examples, such as Wild Eagle, the position of the vest locks in place upon dispatch, so if they're tight when you leave the station chances are you will barely be able to move your own body let alone breathe deeply during the ride (I certainly couldn't). This can be helped by holding the vest portion forward a little bit until dispatch. The reason why they're not on this ride, Incredible Hulk or Rougarou is, from my understanding, that a four-across "new" B&M train is slightly wider than an "old" train. 805Andrew
Turning Vortex from a standup to a floorless coaster is a good move for CGA. It may not be the exciting announcement people were hoping for, but most people probably weren't expecting anything major for CGA next year either. Vortex's footprint is very compact and it would be hard to fit a new major coaster there, so this is a good way to bring new life to an aging ride. I won't be running up to CGA to ride this, but next time I go to CGA (whenever that may be) I will take a spin on this along with a bunch of rides on the excellent Gold Striker. This addition also won't break the bank and will leave room in the budget for a future major attraction (hopefully when they decide to tear Grizzly down). Ed Farmer
This makes me very sad. Really wanted to get to CGA before they either ripped it out or did this. That said, I'm relieved it means they'll be holding onto a design B&M came up with before they expanded into the cotton candy industry.

While this ride still won't be that exciting to me, it'll liven up that space and be something actually rideable, which is what CGA needs. Improvement, for sure. I've heard that they push down on some people's collar bones, making the ride uncomfortable for them. ^THIS! This is my exact same complaint with the new restraints. Given my experiences on Banshee and Gatekeeper, I did not like those vest restraints. I thought my collar bone was going to crack during the ride. Now given I haven't ridden Rougarou yet, I'm not quite sure how the change will make the ride smoother, especially if they'll be using the standard restraints. Only complaint is the name. Would have been nicer to have something original. Actually, I think it's a fitting name since the park's theme is supposed to be about America. Hence the name, Great America. Henry M
Only complaint is the name. Would have been nicer to have something original. They could have created a whole new story line around it and a cool paint job. The name does the job of a new name, and the paint is OK, but again, nothing special. They could have created a whole new story line around it and a cool paint job. If they did it would have absolutely zero impact on the ride experience unless they put tons of theming around the track which is an entirely unrealistic expectation for Cedar Fair. How many highly themed B&M coasters can you think of in America? Even parks like Universal don't theme their B&M coasters outside of the station and queue area (unless you count the launch tunnel on Hulk which nobody does). If you expect things like that then you'll be disappointed every single time. Try to keep your expectations reasonable.

It seriously depends on how much longer the park is planning on having this coaster, but Patriot in my opinion seems to lack in creativity. What "seriously depends on how much longer the park is planning on having this coaster"? What are you talking about? And how will the name impact the ride experience in any way? They could give it a completely asinine and terrible name like "Blue Hawk 91" or "Big blue loopy thing" or "Mystic Timbers" and I wouldn't care because it wouldn't impact the ride experience in any way, shape or form. djackson
At least cedar fair isn't running around with a ton of coasters named Goliath and cloned b&m coasters called Batman the ride.
Jcoaster
I have no issue with the name. I can see why they went with the blue color scheme becauae Patriot at WOF already has the red color scheme. Even though Patriot at WOF has one of the best paint jobs I've ever seen on a coaster.

Mean Streak just got the closing announcement, and now Vortex is getting the Rougarou treatment... HOLY CRAP CEDAR FAIR HAS ANSWERED MY PRAYERS!
