Here's a trip report for 10/6 - I went with 'rolercstrluvr.' I was able to get in for just $20 because he had a Gold Pass, which was a really good deal. We got the day started a little after 11 with Gold Striker, which had almost no wait. The second time we did it in the afternoon the wait was also minimal. We did all of the rides that were open with the exception of Psycho Mouse. The lines moved very smoothly for the most part; the longest line was probably for Tiki Twirl. We were disappointed that we hardly got wet on Whitewater Falls. The weather was quite nice, especially for this time of year. All together, we had a really good time there.

Haunt will only get busier and what a difference between this past weekend and opening weekend!

 

I was out at the park both Friday and Saturday and had a pretty solid visit on both days. The crowds are coming and it's only going to get crazier! Saturday was quite busy actually. On the flip side, as long as lines looked (Zombie High was coming all the way out to entry sign by Psycho Mouse) lines moved quick! I'd actually say that the longest I waited in even what looked to to be probably a solid 30 minutes but reality was it only took 15 minutes. With Zombie High's line, I spent probably 10 minutes despite its length. Some highlights from the weekend visit:

 

-Madame Marie's line...this was 2012 hotness but so far has had extremely short and/or quick moving lines...we waited in what looked to be quite full queue and were in within 5 minutes!

-CornStalkers was never more than 5 minutes but the downside: When you let all 3 groups into the 3 entries, it becomes a fustercluck and a major pile up. From there, you're in what's essentially a line to get out of the maze.

-We didn't bother with Slaughter House as on opening night, the line took forever to get through when it shouldn't have been any more than 15-20 minutes...more of 40 minutes.

-3rd time of watching Blades of Horror, this show's amazing.

-Finally saw CULTure Pop...after watching Blades, I was like "eh...." It didn't seem to have the same spark as last year. But if you're sitting in the right area, you'll enjoy the show's finale! (I leave this a surprise...and is probably the best part of the show!)

-Rode Gold Striker 11 more times in a row during Madame Marie's Voodoo Chophouse ERT. Not the private rides like last weekend as us MMVC goers were sharing rides with the local ACE members...met some new faces too! I can say that if you marathon Goldy that long, you will seriously be winded/exhausted due to the ride's intensity! I came off feeling like a wet noodle, but well worth it! All of these ERT sessions put me up to 176 laps

-Flame throwers never get old! It's fun just standing by the fire on a chilly night!

Time to revive this thread much like how corpses are revived in Madame Marie's Massacre Manor.

 

Was back out at the park again yesterday for day and Haunt. Met up with TPR member Sunfire, neighbor, and cousin for a nice day of fun! Day time, crowds were pretty light and waited at most 10 minutes for Gold Striker (6 laps during day). Towards the end of the day, people were starting to show up. Again doing Madame Marie's VooDoo Chophouse dinner and including ERT, I got another 19 consecutive laps in on Gold Striker! Yesterday put me from 176 laps to 201! I can say this though. Gold Striker will wear you out after even 10 laps! I *highly* recommend having something to drink immediately after riding as you will feel like you're floating off into space, and your body will fill like jello!

 

The crowds are definitely here! But here's the thing: We get 3-4 mazes knocked out within 3-45 minutes time when we start at the back. After that, most of the lines appear to be long but move pretty darn fast! For example: Toy Factory's line wrapped across the area, starting at where the exit of Toy Factory is. Using all of its switchbacks, we were in within 15 minutes! The trade off is that the park has to let groups in a bit more frequent, leading to catching up to other groups. Honestly though, I'd rather this happen than spend hours in line standing as my feet begin to hurt.

 

Another long-appearing wait was for Zombie High which took 30 minutes (appeared to look like an hour's wait). The line started in front of Tiki Twirl. Those familiar with Zombie High should know that the line wraps all the way around through the picnic grove entry and use a good chunk of the old Cornstalker's path.

 

So despite the full-looking queues, they actually move pretty fast! They do look intimidating however and have left me skipping by them initially until I realized that 1: it's only going to get more crowded and 2: I had my 3DS with me along with my Pokemon X...time to level up my 'mons and battle a friend who had his 3DS with him

 

Other highlights:

-We got some line jumpers kicked out of line. 2 people slipped by us and we initially shook it off. 30 seconds later, they're calling up 6 more of their friends to meet them. After saying something along the lines of 'this is not cool' I quickly notified one of the attendants. Instant reaction, the whole group was kicked out and had to get back to the end of the line. They were mad at us but in the end...don't get mad at us for your mistake. So, kudos to CGA and their responsive staff!

 

-The exact opposite also happened, where some people were ahead of us. They wanted to wait for a friend so they stood off to the side and let everyone pass them until their friend met up. While they should meet up before they get in line, I give kudos for some consideration rather than just having their 20-person family meet up with them.

 

-All 3 scare zones were alive and kicking tonight, including the what was initially lackluster Dead Man's Cove! Yup, they were really getting into what they were doing. Underworld was alive and kicking though it still suffers from too much staff on 1 path and minimal staff on other.

 

-All of the mazes were doing pretty good too, despite the crazy amount of people passing through. I had many startle moments. Speaking of mazes, where I initially felt like Zombie High had a weak first impression, this maze is actually starting to grow on me. I have to look at this maze as though it were Toy Factory, being one of the more 'humorous' ones. Humorous is a nice change up from the gore-fest

 

I'm ready for next weekend and ready for facing the crowds (and the line jumpers, and the drunk idiots). Unfortunately with these crowds, many things are getting destroyed. Madame Marie's Massacre Manor had all of its outdoor lights working early in the night and eventually most of them weren't. When I heard something fall while I was in line, I turned on my flashlight (on my phone) and saw that someone knocked down a post. Further back in line, I saw strings of lights unplugged and dangling/sitting on the ground.

 

Sorry for the lack of photos, but I kind of feel like I took enough Haunt photos for the season, as shown on the previous 2 trip reports Last night was just a night of enjoying Haunt through my own eyes rather than constantly being behind the camera.

Had a great time yesterday at CGA! Met up with Angry_Gumball and his cousin and neighbor for some good ol' daytime operation goodness. I was busy in the evening so I couldn't stay for Haunt, but I still had plenty of fun getting multiple rides on all my favorites! Here's some small observations from my visit.

 

Good stuff:

-For the most part, all the rides are running in very good shape! Gold Striker of course is doing amazing, and Flight Deck felt like it was running on steroids most of the day. Also, Demon was surprisingly smooth (we sat as close to the Arrow magic seat as possible).

-Ride operators were being very enthusiastic and friendly at most of the rides. It was very refreshing to have ride ops who clearly enjoyed their job. Not everyone was like this of course, but the ones that were really enthusiastic made a big impression, especially as a former ride op myself.

-Short wait times made for lots of repeat rides, especially Goldy (we couldn't get away from it!). Also managed a rare ride on Psycho Mouse, which the line is usually too long for me to even bother.

-Funhouse Express was pretty fun! It was quirky and unusual, but I think that's the whole fun of Halloween. The 3D was a little out of focus but I digress.

-Halloween decorations are looking fantastic as usual. The big hay maze looked really fun for the kids. Good attention to detail with all the decor.

 

Not so good stuff:

-Most of the ride operators needed a little pep in their step. Maybe it's because the end of the season is near and they're getting tired of these rides, but operations were pretty slow. I understand that the park was not very busy today but they should still aim to get high dispatch times. Flight Deck and Drop Tower's dispatches seemed particularly sluggish.

-Line jumping even on a slow day? Come on people. Of the many times we rode Goldy, at least 3 times we were line jumped. What's the point? The wait was only 10 minutes! This happened a couple of times in other places, such as Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight.

Totally worth it. I got in a 19-lap marathon this past weekend via the ERT session. Anyone doing Haunt (hmm...is anyone here even visiting CGA lately or doing Haunt this season? *crickets chirp*) I highly recommend the Voodoo Chophouse! Excellent food and awesome perks!

Last Saturday the parking lot was full, it took 40 minutes to get into the park with a 6:45 arrival. The lines were minimum hour each, but I have to say that it's more fun when the park has lots of people running around. The 2 Sundays I've been to have been a bit drab.

 

Hope tomorrow is less crowded than last Saturday and more fun than the previous Sunday!

Get there early and do the chopfest that is mentioned above. It's something like $15 extra, but will get you into the park early so you can ride goldstriker (which will be an hour+ wait during haunt). All rides are open. It's gonna be very busy so my advice is to do the chopfest, get all the goldstriker out of your system, when they let the rope down at 7 run to Slaughterhouse, madame marie, cornstalkers, toy factory, zombie high... then from there it's gonna be a flustercluck. Be ready to wait wait wait... .unless you get a fast pass for the rides?

Went last night, and it was crazy packed, would've got the Chophouse package but I was with my friends and they didn't feel like it. Mazes were really fun and surprisingly scary, I wasn't expecting it, and lines were moving really fast. Guy at the end of Slaughterhouse Annihilation said 1 hour but it was only 20-25 min, and the queue was spilling out into the plaza. Got one ride on Gold Striker, about 1 hour 15 min wait, but totally worth it, it was only my second ride all year and it was crazy, ejector air all over the place, definitely top 10 material, just makes me wish I had gone more to ride it. Overall Haunt was cool and I definitely want to go again, but for sure on a less crowded night.

Haunt TR from last night! (Saturday, 10/19):

 

Before I even went, I was fully aware that the park was going to be packed. Even so, my cousin, her friend and I made the trek out to Haunt. Once we started nearing the parking lot, we realized it was going to be flat out crazy! There was a good quarter mile line of cars on Great America Pkwy coming from Hwy 237, and from what I hear that was the less busy direction. From waiting to park, buying tickets, and getting through security (guards were performing more thorough checks - definitely a good thing to ensure safety), it took almost 40 minutes to actually get into the park. Once we got in, that's when it really got crazy.

 

Since I was with my cousin and her friend, who are both GP, and considering the lines were already quite long when we got there, we opted to budget time just for Gold Striker, the new mazes (Dia De Los Muertos and Zombie High), and Madame Marie's (new to both of them).

 

In between doing these attractions, we found ourselves walking around in awe of how many people were in the park. I hadn't seen the park this crazy in a while (at least when I was working as a ride op during Haunt). Every single ride (with the exception of Vortex and Berserker) had queues spilling out onto the midway. Even Endeavor and Orbit, which hardly ever have a wait, had long lines last night. When it comes to mazes, every line was absurdly long. A pleasant surprise was that maze lines were moving pretty quickly. Zombie High's queue stretched far past the entrance and was actually blocking the exit to Tiki Twirl, but we only waited about 30 minutes. The most crazy thing I saw crowd wise was when Toy Factory's queue stretched all the way out the entrance and was in front of Food Festival. There, the queue came close to converging with Cornstalkers, which was also spilling out, and many guests were confused about which line was which. Speaking of Food Festival, all food stands/restaurants were swamped, looked like the waits would be quite long just to get something to eat. I didn't bother, just waited until the park closed and got some grub elsewhere.

 

Surprisingly, crowds seemed well behaved (at least from what I saw). There didn't seem to be too many problems apart from a couple of people who had a little too much to drink. One interesting mishap happened while in line for Dia De Los Muertos. We were almost to the entrance of the maze, and suddenly the line came to a halt. We heard an air horn blast from inside the maze. Suddenly, the maze music turned off, the work lights came on, and within 30 seconds, everyone inside the maze was quickly evacuated. We even saw the scare actors exiting. About 10 minutes later, the regular lights came back on and they restarted the music and the maze was back to normal. I'm not sure what happened in there, but it was clearly some type of emergency. It's great to know that the park has very organized evacuation procedures in case something goes wrong.

 

Although there was a ton of people there and we weren't able to get much done, we still had a good time at Haunt. The crowds stayed in good spirits and everyone seemed to be having a great time. CGA definitely has found their high season!

 

Ride/Maze count:

Gold Striker - 70 min

Madame Marie's Massacre Manor - 40 min

Zombie High - 30 min

Orbit - 20 min

Carnevil - 25 min

Dia De Los Muertos - 50 min (including delay)

^ CarnEvil and MMMM were the most efficient mazes of last night (they had to be due to the crowds). MMMM was pulsing very fast (they'd send you in as soon as you told them how many were in your group) and CarnEvil had an unregulated, continuous flow. The size of CarnEvil's line was intimidating, but it felt like I was in a line at WDW or Europa Park it went so fast. Slaughterhouse on the other hand...

 

I'm glad that CGA is getting insanely packed for Haunt though, this whole season has been very successful for the park. Money for new rides, more improvements and repainting, just about anything that'll continue the wonderful renaissance that the park is going through.

My take on yesterday and last night. The park was naturally dead during the day (except for Gold Striker which had 10-15 minute waits all day), and even Grizzly was only a 5 minute wait so we decided to take a ride on that for kicks...to be fair, Grizzly isn't really that bad...It's just dull. We still somehow managed to enjoy ourselves and the crews seemed to be moving a little bit quicker than we anticipated.

 

Haunt, polar opposite. The place was jam packed. As said above, we start at the back and work forward. We saved our VooDoo Chophouse front of the line passes for Dia De Los Muertos as we had a friend with us who had never experienced Dia yet. Good thing we did as the line stretched all the way to the park's entrance gates. In my mind, the only sounds I can hear in my head were the 'ka-ching! ka-ching!' sounds from RCT. Haunt is a money maker for the park for sure! I never really timed our waits but I'll take a rough guestimate of what we experienced and length of lines...This is also the order we did the mazes.

 

Zombie High: <5 minutes, waited for 2 groups to go in and we were in

Toy Factory: 5 minutes, used 3 sets of switchbacks

Corn Stalkers: <5 minutes...was a walk-on. They disabled the multiple entries and kept the entry to the far right open. I'm actually a bit glad for this as this usually created traffic jams and getting split from your group as everyone's trying to merge.

Madame Marie's Massacre Manor: 5 minutes, used most of switchbacks in front of facade. We once again got line cutters kicked out

Blades of Horror...there was actually a line forming to enter theater...a nice, near single file line rather than everyone crowding at the doors.

Dia De Los Muertos: Walk-on, used our single-use Fright Lane pass. There was a huge backup and took us 10 minutes to actually go through the maze! Oh well, more time to actually look at all the eye-gasmic props! Once we got past the hanging skeleton bodies (near end of maze) traffic was nonexistent.

 

CarnEvil: 30 minutes...line moved like every 10 seconds. I had brought my 3DS and Pokemon X as these long lines would be great opportunity to battle friends and progress in my game but with how fast paced the line was, it was hard to focus.

 

We skipped Werewolf as the line wrapped around 80% of the circumference of the Flyers...in fact, we opted to ride the flyers instead as it had just about no line!

 

AFX theater/Funhouse Express's line stretched all the way to the action arcade/exit. I'd rather ride this during the day when we can walk right on. It is a hit for families though so I recommend riding it early and lines can still fill up.

 

Final visit back at Zombie High: 25-30 minutes. Line started at Tiki Twirl's entrance. At this point they were just letting everyone in so that they can keep things going in a timely manner.

 

For the most part, guests were pretty well behaved! There were the 2 people we called out and supervisors immediately responded and escorted them out of the line, or the group of 5 that passed everyone at Zombie High. Other than that, everyone (from what I saw) were pretty well behaved.

 

Other highlights of the night: Madame Marie spotted me near the chophouse/Maggie Brown's, called me over, and had Blue Fire Guy and my cousin help participate in one of her crazy rituals of stealing people's souls She then took my cousin's soul.

We had a great time at CGA’s Haunt a couple of weeks ago for an event! We had backstage tours of 3 mazes (Dia de Los Muertos, Slaughterhouse Annihilation and Massacre Manor). We were also behind Gold Striker for some more photos. The night was terrific! We went through the mazes a couple of times (once going into line and once with Fright Line passes) and rode Gold Striker for an hour without getting off! The Voodoo Chophouse is the best value!

 

The only downer of the night was blatant line jumping, even in the Fright Lane! We went through the fright lane for Werewolf Canyon. There was a couple that got in between a couple of us (we had 8 people with us). They got up to the front with us, without a fright lane pass. They told the person at the entrance that “my brother is inside, I need to go in.” She told him that it is line cutting and he could be kicked out. She also said to go to the end of the line. We got through and then she let him in….RIGHT BEHIND US! We couldn’t believe how blatant the line cutting was.

 

We also went last night and had a blast! The park looked crowded, but we were able to get through everything!

 

It is a shame that Haunt is almost over. It seems like it just got started. We will be back out there next Sunday!

So the Madame Marie package, you get a dinner at CGA, a skip the line pass on any maze, and 1 hour 30 minutes of ERT for how much money?

 

If you're a season pass holder, you're looking at roughly $22. It includes an all you can eat dinner, a single maze Fright Lane (Good for any 1 maze), and Gold Striker ERT from 5:30-7:00. Due to how busy it's been though, the ERT session was cut short 15 minutes to let guests standing in plaza in line...in turn, (a bit of a hassle) we could get back in line via the Fast Lane queue...just an inconvenience having to get out, go around, then get back in...where you can easily have had another 5 laps... I still got in 12 or so laps this past ERT and my record was 19 laps due to the insanely fast crew!

8 Haunted Mazes, 3 Scare Zones & 4 Live Shows Live Shows Deliver Record Attendance

Mazes Open Until 1 AM; Rides Operating Until Midnight Friday & Saturday

 

SANTA CLARA, CA – Halloween Haunt at California’s Great America heads into its final weekend delivering record attendance for the Bay Area’s premier Halloween event. Adding to the final Friday and Saturday, all Halloween Haunt mazes will be open until 1 a.m., with rides operating until Midnight.

 

Halloween Haunt’s sixth horrifying season has debuted two new sinister mazes, raising the frightful walks of terror count to eight. Dia de los Muertos lures victims into the forbidden jungle of El Chupacabra. La Llorona, the Weeping Woman, delivers horrifying screams as creatures of the night crawl from their crypts, while 3D effects and glow-in-the-dark highlights show the way. In the bloody halls of Zombie High, students experience a horrific homecoming with demonic hellions roaming about.

 

Great America’s six returning haunted mazes include: Slaughterhouse Annihilation, CarnEvil, Werewolf Canyon, CornStalkers, Madame Marie’s Massacre Manor and Toy Factory.

 

“Halloween Haunt is the Bay Area’s premier fright event,” said California’s Great America Vice President and General Manager Raul Rehnborg. “Haunt provides terrifying mazes and in-your-face experiences, mixed with the added fun of all our thrill rides. Halloween Haunt at California’s Great America is the perfect place to confront your fears and we’re keeping the mazes open until 1 a.m. for the final Friday and Saturday.”

 

Three exhilarating Scare Zones return for 2013 to keep guests on edge throughout the night. In Dead Man’s Cove – dastardly dead pirates pursue your souls, while The Gauntlet area features tortured spirits lurking in the fog. Underworld Alley is a forgotten graveyard where the undead awake to wreak havoc.

 

Halloween Haunt’s four Live Shows bring additional frights, shrills and campiness to Great America. New for 2013, Blades of Horror transports screen images to life and guests can only hope to depart safely in Halloween Haunt’s inaugural ice show. Blades of Horror features two America’s Got Talent performers, along with a contortionist who will next perform in a Las Vegas Cirque show.

 

The Halloween Haunt experience begins each evening with the Overlord unleashing his fury from atop Carousel Columbia.

 

Tickets can be found online at http://www.cagreatamerica.com/haunt with free admission for 2013 and 2014 Gold Pass holders. Students can receive up to $17 off the regular admission price by showing their valid student ID. Halloween Haunt is intended for guests 13 and older.
