Double0Kevin
^They usually anticipate weather delays, I doubt it has caused too many issues with construction. Besides, I think with all the great weather they had, they are probably already ahead of schedule.
Sunfire
^Good point. They have been doing excellent so far, and the curve around Star Tower is looking sexy
Angry_Gumball
If weather cooperates I'm hoping to be out there this weekend for a final GWW session, and to check out the coaster. So if we don't see anything from GCI or CGA in the next couple days (weather permitting) expect to see some news this weekend!
joejoeman23
Hello Everybody!! I finally am a member of this site. I use to live in San Jose California and was a season passholder from 1990 to 2001. My parents moved me to Iowa at the end of 2001. I went to the park almost every weekend. I visit california every summer but not made it out to the park. However i am attending the park this May. VERY excited about it. Does anybody happen to have photos of the park during the time frame I was a season passholder. I love seeing behind the scenes and need some photos of like the Paramount Theatre (Great American Theatre now I believe) I use to know all the skaters in the Ice shows. Domm
Hi there- welcome! I've used this site many times to look up the good old days of mga: http://greatamericaparks.com/ Â Next time I go to Chicago I am 100% going to be hitting up sfgam to see how that park looks compared to our west coast ga. Speaking of old CGA photos, I know I have a few myself from family trips we took back in the day...in fact I know there's one of me riding "Blue Streak" (Now Woodstock's Express) as well as I think there's some shots of the smurf area...I need to take the time and dig out the boxes of old photos and go through them!  Oh yea...it just dawned on me, this old site I used to visit back in my early coaster enthusiast years that has some good stuff (Quite a few nice Stealth shots) during CGA's most well-rounded year, coaster-wise. http://twistedrails.com/pga/pga.shtml  In other news, looks like Global Winter Wonderland extended their 'season' a week due to the times they had to close up due to bad weather. So rather than Jan 2nd being the last day, it is now the 6th.
Double0Kevin
^Totally forgot about Twisted Rails! I love the whole Zonga report, I remember that day fondly and even see some of my old coworkers. Didn't see myself in any of the shots though, oh well. XYZ
I learned about Twisted Rails a few weeks ago from a link of it that I stumbled upon on TPR. Great website with amazing construction photos of Xcelerator & X2. Â Anyways, any Gold Striker progress? I haven't heard much recently.
Angry_Gumball
^As mentioned on the previous page, I'm hoping to make it out to GWW this weekend, weather permitting. I do have faith though in GCI as they seem to post new stuff by the end of the weeks on their Facebook page (Here's hoping for a nice lunchtime update tomorrow ). I wouldn't expect any updates from the park itself until after the new year since I believe they've had the holiday weeks off.

Angry_Gumball
I'll be out there at the park tomorrow, confirmed! It will be a tad nippy but I'll be ready. And of course, we'll be out there again to hit up the carnival rides of death and the CGA classics. Also as far as GS updates, would be nice to get some photos of my own, even if it's what we saw last week from GCI. Â Speaking of, you guys deserve some R&R after moving along with this project at a rather fast pace!
Angry_Gumball
I'm back from yet another awesome adventure at CGA's Global Winter Wonderland (and of course some Gold Porn). Let's get the Gold Porn out of the way first. Not much has changed since what we saw from GCI a week ago but on the flip side, we did get some shots from inside the park, further making this look very surreal.  Oh, and in the parking lot, we noticed some interesting marks...I'm calling it AquaTrax for the time being.  Onto the happenings and antics at GWW, some notable moments: • Another insane, scary ride on the Zamperla Mini Tea Cups (Honestly, I thought I was going to get flung out due to the insane spinning I had going. Video coming soon. • Super Yellow Slide is back in all of it's butt-smashing glory...well, almost. We found out that they (Midway of Fun, carnie operator) actually coat their superslide periodically with Armor-All, making it insanely slick. It did however conflict with the cold, moist night air trimming speed down just a pinch. • Gravitron actually made me feel sick for quite a while...never turn your head on these things. • Insanely long ride on ferris wheel since we passed by the ride ops twice when unloading before we got unloaded...our ride lasted about 10 minutes • 4-man ride on Tilt a Whirl • And a highly embarrassing moment on the "Raiders" funhouse. I'm coming down the final tube slide at a decent pace followed by an abrupt stop onto the air pillow where I actually could not get up! I had to roll onto the ground where I could finally have something solid to get myself back upright. • Last ride of 2012 was the flyers...first ride of 2013...what will that be?  Pics! Aqua Trax? Hmm... (more shots later) Yup, Stinky Pete's still rocking out his pistol at the park. And now what you've really been waiting for! Fresh Gold Porn! The bottom of the drop, and the 'mid section' lift hill More concrete-ness for you concrete fans The 'almost to the bottom' of the first drop from inside the park. So this is what it will look like when we head to ride Star Tower! C-clamps, waiting for layers of wood before being put to work. The midway curve has steel tracking laid down now... Close up! A final look at Gold Striker for the night. Now, it wouldn't be a carnival without some quality pathways! And high-tech sound systems! Or multi-tasking coaster enthusiasts who appear to be taking photos while texting. Artsy-fartsy shot inside the fart-box..I mean Gravitron! (Yup someone farted in there and it was pretty awful!) Tilt-a-whirl goodness...you know what this means! Since I couldn't get a shot of our faces inside the tub, it was easier to get the feet. And the tubs hold 4 riders each (barely). Ghetto Wheel that broke after 2 rotations when we rode. Yup, check out that dirt dug out...perhaps it will be somewhat ready for that aquatrax to come in for 2014! And some mini tea cup fun! Swwwwsssshhhh! When boarding the bumper cars, we found this new-ish (2012) bumper car signage...sad they have to explain the dynamics of bumper cars. Our well-greased up slide is back in almost all of it's glory! That makes us very very happy! Yup, jeeps...lots of them! And something I noticed getting off the Tilt-a-Whirl...some highly detailed dinos, right down to it's butt! And I'll end it with the mystery project of 20xx, the inverted 4d wooden Vekoma B&M Intamin launched AquaTrax that goes eleventy trillion mph through jumps through rings of fire, does 20 trillion flips, etc... It probably really is for some parking lot re-routing/work in light of the new stadium. Sorry if I got you all excited for a minute!
Double0Kevin
I approve of Jeff's choice in headwear. Â Also Gold Striker looks awesome. Seems like its progress has slowed down quite a bit, as I would expect being that it's the holidays and the guys at GCI deserve a little break. Can't wait to see things start to pick up again after the new year.
JJnCFL
I approve of Jeff's choice in headwear. Â Â Had a great time with AngryGumball & the gang again, can't believe this year is just about over, here's more pics below, enjoy! Star Tower's soon to be new entrance Very happy Enthusiasts! WFChris
Saw this in the LA Times. It will apply to all theme parks in California, but the case itself revolves around CGA. If it's been posted already I apologize.  latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/12/amusement-park-injuries-liability.html  Court to decide if theme parks are liable for thrill ride injuriesDecember 30, 2012 | 1:04 pm  The California Supreme Court is expected Monday to decide whether amusement parks can be held liable for injuries suffered on bumper cars and other thrill rides.  The state high court is considering a lawsuit filed by a woman who broke her wrist while riding a bumper car at the Great America amusement park in Northern California. She claimed the park had operated the ride negligently and should compensate her for the injury.  Cedar Fair L.P., the company that owns the park, has countered that riders assume responsibility for themselves when they knowingly hop on an attraction with inherent risks.  "There is always going to be a slight risk in these activities," Jeffrey M. Lenkov, a lawyer for the park, told the jurists in October.  The court has barred suits over injuries that occur under normal conditions in sports such as football or skiing, citing legal doctrine that recognizes some activities have inherent risks. Amusement park owners have asked the court to extend that doctrine to such rides as bumper cars.  "The point of the bumper car is to bump," Justice Joyce L. Kennard noted during the hearing. If the court ruled in favor of the injured patron, would it mean "that no bumping is allowed on bumper car rides?"  "Of course not," replied Mark D. Rosenberg, representing the plaintiff. He said that the park knew injuries might occur during head-on collisions, such as the one involving the female patron, and has since configured bumper car operations to avoid them.  "We want to make the rides as safe as possible," he argued.  Steven J. Renick, an attorney for the park, called the wrist injury "a freakish incident" and the only one of its kind to occur over two years on 600,000 rides. Park officials say she was injured when she put her hand outside the car to brace herself.  The court previously has ruled that operators of roller coasters have a legal duty to use "the utmost care" to protect riders. But Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdegar distinguished roller coasters from bumper cars.  Patrons can steer and push the gas pedal on bumper cars, but on roller coasters "you have no control. It's scary," she said.
Angry_Gumball
Funny, we were just making fun if that idiot last night riding the bumper cars. Now I'm going to assume they meant the 31st? Today's the 30th. I have a feeling that lady won't get too far, especially knowing the risks (and if she reached outside the vehicle to 'brace herself.') Blue Fire Guy
Aaaaannd, here's another GWW/CGA TR! Had a great time yesterday evening, there were a fair share of epic moments to be had as Angry_Gumball pointed out in his TR on the previous page. Â I arrived at the park around an hour before the other members of the gang arrived to take some GoldPorn pics, and in these the coaster is bathed in the setting sun, looks pretty! In the "Raiders" funhouse the carnies fixed the "butthurt" (those who have gone through it will know what I'm talking about) joints in the final slide, but there were still a few more joints further down that felt like there were death spikes on it or something, OUCH! Â Don't have much else to say other than enjoy the photos! Â UPDATE: Zamperla Teacups! Â Some more Gold Porn, as there can never be enough of it. They've filled in all the concrete for the first drop. No progress on the lift. All the crazy storms we've had in the past few weeks have slowed things down a little. They'll probably kick it into high gear again soon weather permitting! Mmmmmmmm...random GCI wood... C-clamps in the foreground, steel rails in the background. How many layers can you count? EIGHTY DEGREES!!! Ah, yes, our good ol' old-school beemer. It'll be its 20th anniversary this season! "Do a barrel roll!" Once again, this is an angle one would never get under normal CGA circumstances. GWW thinks otherwise though! I wish QueerRudie were here with us to see this... Empty White Water Falls. Best. Bridge. Ever. Super Yellow Slide o' Death back with a vengeance! Goodbye CGA, last visit of 2012! See you again on March 29th for Gold Striker hotness! Angry_Gumball
I'll have a video up of the insane Zamperla mini teacups ride soon, where Angry_Gumball pretty much lost his inner gyroscope in the process. Lost my inner gyroscope? I found me a new one today This should fix me after that terrifying ride, lol  And....the Raiders walk-thru Funhouse...  Oh, and the bumper car ruling...Check this out!  Buy the ticket, ride the bumper cars, and get hurt -- it's on you. Great America and other California amusement parks can't be sued for injuries that occur as a result of "jostling" on rides like bumper cars, the state Supreme Court ruled Monday.  The court threw out by a 6-1 ruling a case made by a South Bay doctor who claimed she broke her wrist on a Great America bumper car ride in 2005. A lower court had ruled that patrons can sue in the situation of such injuries.  The court ruled that the risk of injuries is "inherent" on such rides like Great America's "Rue Le Dodge Ride," according to the San Jose Mercury News.  The San Jose doctor, Smriti Nalwa, was one of "55 people" injured on the bumper car ride over a two-year period, but the only one to suffer a broken bone.  After the accident, the owners of Great America added an island in the middle of the bumper car track to cut down on head-on collisions.  The court has in the past thrown out lawsuits brought on by football players and skiers, arguing that such activities are inherently risky, the newspaper reported. However, the court has also found that roller coaster operators are bound to ensure safety, but made a clear distinction and ruled that bumper cars are like skiing and football in that regard. http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Court-Bumper-Car-Injuries-Not-Amusement-Parks-Fault-185321211.html  Let's add water slides to the mix since there's so much variability to one's ride experience.
