Carowinds Discussion Thread

P. 418: Camp Snoopy expansion announced including new family coaster

Recommended Posts

^^ Yeah, when I saw that in Amusement Today this morning, I had never realized the politics that went into Carowinds. Perhaps it is just the one state side? Though, how do they split the ride in two seperate costs relative to state? I'm not sure. I guess we will have to see.

Maybe 11mil is what they are physically pumping in york county. They may not have included the price of the actual coaster in that price being that it wouldnt matter to york county because they arent getting the entire sum so what they are getting out of the deal was publicized.

Look at black mamba. Out of the entire price of the coaster literary half of it was for landscaping/theme elements.

And we all know no one will pay 100mil just for the coaster portion of expedition everest...

11 million dollars? That doesn't seem like enough to build a hyper.

Due to the economy, construction costs are down. You can build something now for 25% less than what it would have cost a year ago. Even with that though, I highly doubt this coaster will cost only $11 million to build. Sounds like a misleading article to me. Good explanation from Jonathan can be found here also: http://www.carowindsconnection.com/viewtopic.php?t=2805&f=13

This Morgantown shipping stuff just makes this thing even more weird.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I just remembered that WVU in Morgantown is home of one of the first PRTs - "Personal Rapid Transit" which WVU's is basically one of the first automated rapid transit systems. Not sure if there's a connection to the coaster but its interesting since Carowinds at one time had a monorail and a trolley system.

pics and info on WVU's PRT here...

They look to be quite horizontal to me.

They're not. Look for a drop angle of about 80 degrees.

Yeah, it's a horizontal piece of track. Turn it sideways and it becomes vertical.

I was poking fun of how everything has to be speculated in these threads. The fact is that it's simply not a fact.

i really hate it when people who have contributed nothing to forums all of a sudden decide to join in on the conversation and state things that have already been discussed numerous times.

If you want to join in and discuss the new coaster, i have no problem with that. but PLEASE just take a few minutes to make sure you're not stating something that has already been pointed out. It makes it hard for the people who have been participating all along to have to sift through all the info we already know.

Thanks. (sorry, i don't mean to sound like i'm pms-ing. it just irks me)

I had always (especially when I went there for the first time) thought that there would be a special clause for Carowinds from both states ( I.e. split every thing 50/50 including taxes and permits.

But I guess the bureaucrats think that would be too easy.

Anyhoo, I guess those gray supports are for the station/final brake portion. ( atleast thats what got built first with Dimondback)

I'm just making an observation based on these two photos:

http://www.carowindsconnection.com/download/file.php?id=213

I don't see a footprint for an out and back coaster, it dosen't seem long enough and the sanctioned off "dirt" area ends between the Putz HQ Theatre and Taxi Chase. Does anyone HAVE any pictures of the footers poured near the south gate?????? I would like to see these alleged footers.

I'm praying for a Hyper Twister Coaster. With all the out and back B & M's we've had built in the last 4 years a twister would be a welcome addition to the company's portfolio.

There are footers by the south gate. This has been confirmed. Footers as far as the eye can see: caro_090724_067
