Yeah, Scarowinds crowds are typically people who don't go to the park during the day. Winterfest crowds are the same families that would be at the park during normal hours. If I had to pick, based on bang for my buck, I would opt out of night time at the park for winterfest as it would seem redundant to do both in one night. I say just open at normal times in the day and close rides are the temp drops.

My kids and I will be going to the park on July 1. Any recs on a hotel nearby the park? We are driving in from the Outer Banks. Their website has a Quality Inn as a preferred hotel. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

They’re 3 or 4 hotels near the park. Comfort inn is directly across from the parking lot. As which is the best I’m not certain as I have no need to stay living 5mins away. The quality inn is across Carowinds Blvd behind the QT station.

^^ I can vouch that the Comfort Inn is good - stayed there and had a great view of the park from our room.

When I went a couple years ago they had something like this. A bunch of small booths with food from different sections of the Carolinas My favorite was the beer booth of course.

Yessss! This name is wonderfully silly, and helps Carowinds maintain the distinction of having three separate roller coasters with an airplane theme.

 

The new colors are also a massive improvement over the old ones.

 

Now would it be too much to ask for a new train that actually makes it rideable?

It’s so fitting for the Carolinas. Though the ride is in SC the play on words for Kitty Hawk, NC where the first flight of the Wright brothers took place is brilliant. Plus of course it’s next to Nighthawk and of course the Carolinas have a few Hawk species flying everywhere. Good job Carowinds.

I'm semi-concerned that if the park builds a GCI at all in the next few years that it's going to be called "Carolina Timbers." Hope I'm wrong.....

If CF does give us a wood coaster, my hope is that it is an RMC ground up and not a copycat Hurler re-do. In addition, I think it would be awesome to re-incarnate the "White Lightnin" name somehow for nostalgia sake.

Although, that name may be too confusing with the GCI hybrid down at Fun Spot Orlando.

If CF does give us a wood coaster, my hope is that it is an RMC ground up and not a copycat Hurler re-do...

 

I mean, technically a Hurler conversation would be a steel-hybrid anyways... it will be interesting to see if/when Hurler at Carowinds gets converted if it would be a clone or if RMC & CF would go with something different. Guess it depends how much Carowinds/CF would be willing to invest.

 

My vote would be to remove the steaming pile of s**t that is Nighthawk as use that land for a nice GCI. This park definitely has an interesting future and tons of possibilities.

Yes, Nighthawk has seen better days for sure and a new GCI would be an AWESOME replacement for our beloved (and very missed) "Thunder Road".

I have to say though, ever since Holiday World got Thunderbird, I thought Nighthawk's spot would be perfect for a launched wing. There has been some chatter about a Vortex re-do much like CGA's Patriot but I think the majority of Carowinds fanboys would prefer that both Vortex and Nighthawk be replaced or just removed for future attractions. I could be wrong.

My hope is that they eventually get rid of both Nighthawk and Vortex (scrap the former, ship the latter off to Michigan's Adventure as a floorless) and use that spot for a big steel looper, maybe a wing rider.

 

A GCI would go nicely in the land that's been cleared around the old Whitewater Falls spot.
