Carowinds Discussion Thread

P. 417 - Fury back open now with 100% less crack!

Recommended Posts

Why so? Thats what a park map is for and if youre a regular park goer you should know the layout of Carowinds like the back of your hand it's not a big park land wise. Pretty sure you'll walk up on it with no issues. I wouldnt mind if they didnt announce it and let it be an epic surprise.

If they are to announce it, I'm thinking in the next week or two. It's around the time the surprise ride of slingshot was announced last year.

That is a good point though. If you are a regular park goer you really should know what the park layout is. Especially is you've lived in the Charlotte/Fort Mill area for over 10 years and you've been more than three times every summer. But, I would still like an announcement. That would bring even more people than the water park expansion and garden warfare stuff. There would also be more of a hyped up wait for 2016. That' just my Caropinion (Carowinds opinion-not funny bur do you get it?word play)

So it's going to be almost 80 degrees in Charlotte this weekend, as far north as New Jersey and in every park around Carowinds (Dollywood, SFOG, BGW) people will be flocking to the parks. When is Carowinds going to get with the program and have another holiday event? I can't believe they haven't re-visited that idea yet.

Carowinds invited the media out on wed to give a live progress report of the highly anticipated Carolina Harbor water park expansion at Carowinds. The media was invited on a walking tour of all things Carolina Harbor, the new and the old. Not going to be much on words so i'm just gonna lay out some tidbits.

-This will be the largest water park (acreage wise) in the Carolinas.

-White Water West is providing all of the new hardware.

-The park has a self appointed deadline of may 1st to have everything ready and complete for inspection, certification and to get everything trained for the area.

-The older slides have painted supports because they are not galvanized steel as the newer slides are (hence why the older slides have painted supports and the slide duo complex of 13 and next years slide complex will not be painted.

-The bucket atop Seaside Splashworks is custom designed (as their is no "standard" size bucket) and intricately weighted to properly tilt and swing back and forth with little to no stress on the structure.

-The park is still looking to see what, if any, (live) entertainment product they will have inside Carolina Harbor.

I also asked about the about the lazy river, if it will ever be expanded. From the gist of things, it would be more feasible and financially sound to add an additional lazy river than to add on to the current.

Ok . . . on to the photos.

The lot of full with slide parts.

This duo complex came in 2013 . . .Provided by proslides (The park generally works with proslides and whitewater. I asked about polin . . . they seem to not have ever heard about them).

In addition, the current splash treehouse has received some paint to go with its new Pirates landing theme.

The new colors REALLY have breathed life into this once hum drum looking complex.

The now old wave pool . . .

This will be the site of the new Harmony Hall style restaurant, Harbor House, featuring what would be some of the best food you can get in a theme park. The seating will be outdoors as opposed to the indoors of Harmony Hall since most people would be still wanting to enjoy the sun.

IMG00165-20151216-1104.thumb.jpg.bcbf9ba3f62d9d84ec544cde389fa9d5.jpg

Now we are looking onto the site of what will be the new wave pool, Surf Club Harbor.

IMG00166-20151216-1105.thumb.jpg.1cf893a893ef55c1732e9c90d70d2153.jpg

But first, lets look at the awesome color scheme of Storm Surge.

IMG00167-20151216-1107.thumb.jpg.fdf093dcb97578096c14f0deca424b4d.jpg

This will be the new pump house. I "heard" this pool will be the wilder one while the current one will be a little more mild.

IMG00168-20151216-1109.thumb.jpg.ef264fe6e757381890269c1e8cba8de5.jpg

In addition to the new Carolina Harbor exclusive entrance there will also be a new Bathhouse near as you enter it.

IMG00169-20151216-1128.thumb.jpg.2521cb7bc6d57e73bd6cf38b620cdabb.jpg

Lets take one last look at Blackbeard's Revenge before heading out.

IMG00170-20151216-1133.thumb.jpg.ed48f6da1a02718728aa847b8b5486ba.jpg

Overall I see this expansion being as big as Fury325 on the scale of bringing more guest into the park and I cannot WAIT for it to open! Also, the park has a dedicated website . . . HERE . . . with live webcams and other exclusive content!

I must confess: it'll be strange to drive by Carowinds and not see Thunder Road anymore, but a few more additions to their water park that was surely in need of an upgrade. And what's better than a lazy river? How about TWO lazy rivers! Speaking about lazy rivers ( and this is just my opinion), they could turn one of those lazy rivers into a cool attraction like Schlitterbahn did to their lazy river attraction when they turned your normal lazy river ride into a ride called "Conga" that was full of fog tunnels, scary props, and lots of things that squirt water at you.

It'll be interesting what it'll be this coming May.

So Im doing a little researching because im bored. And under B&M on wiki, (yes i know its wiki) i was looking at all their coasters. And for Fury 325 it classifies it as a hypercoaster. So i went and try to fix and it it says this, | ''[[Fury 325]]'' || ''Hyper Coaster'' || [[Carowinds]] || {{flagicon|United States}} United States || 2015 ||{{cite RCDB|coaster_name=Fury 325|location=Carowinds|rcdb_number=12273|accessdate=August 21, 2014}}

Any one know why B&M does this?

If you read carefully, where you saw hyper coaster is where the model type is. This is correct. (I edited that to make it more clear.) Nowhere did I see it classified as a hyper coaster.

I was just wondering why they don't market it as a giga coaster?

Probably because the term was coined by Intamin.

Charlotte & York County's Spring Break is the last week of March & Rock Hill is the 1st week of April. Carowinds was open daily last season during those 2 weeks. It may be the same this year, but until the calendar is released we won't know.

I've heard B&M classify coasters over 200 feet as "Mega-Coasters" most likely due to the fact that they are a Swiss company-who uses the Metric System of measuring.

200 feet (Hyper)= 61 meters

300 feet (Giga)= 91.4 meters

The meaning isn't the same. The impact is different.

Just my .02
