West Coast Bash 2008 - The Official Thread!

Recommended Posts

Now I'm REALLY kicking myself for not going (stupid flu, ooh i hate you so much!). I had a similar "magical" experience riding Tatsu at night a couple years ago, I can only imagine how much more spectacular it was to see the entire park lit up from atop the Sky Tower. Everywhere ERT, Pysclone boneyard, S&S's inside scoop...nice! Sounds like you guys were given the royal treatment, and the park is very quickly living up to its name again.

Will definitely catch it next year and be sure to get all the sicky-ness out of the way. Talk about horrible timing...

Looking forward to the TriP Report!

The event was AWESOME and the night time ERT was a thing of pure beauty! All coasters open for ERT. Walking into EMPTY stations with trains just waiting for you to board. The awesome thing was that they were running two trains on everything for 300 people! WOW! My best day by far at MM. Nice to see some people from the boards there (Eric/Dan).

I was a wise man for taking today off work as I desperately needed the rest after walking the park multiple times (including heart attack hill) and so many stairs it makes my head spin (I got my exercise for the day, thats for sure!) The park really looks in nice shape and from the talk of management it seems like things will only be getting better.

Thanks again to Chris, Robb and MM for putting on what I have to describe as the best coaster event I have been to. Knotts may want to take notice what their competition up the road is doing...

I still can't believe that I almost passed this up. It was great seeing some of my longtime friends and enjoying a great day at SFMM. It's funny how many of us hav bashed this park over the years, but if things keep going the way they've been during the past year, there won't be anything left to bash.

It's easy to make the assumption that Jay, Neal, Tim, and everyone on staff at the park are just "wowing us" only to let us down later, but I really feel like this team "gets it" and realizes that SFMM can be quite the goldmine.

Thanks so much to Chris, Robb, and everyone at SFMM for a great day.

Wow! That is all i can say after yesterday. That had to be the best time i have ever, and probably will, have at SFMM. The night ERT was amazing. I can't say enough positive things about the park management. I was on the yellow group, and actually walked with Jay, the park President, and he was a normal guy. We talked about the park, and even the movie "Vacation." Robb, Elissa, and everyone out there, that was a spectacular event. Everyone i came with had a blast. Sure it was rough going to work this morning after being at the park till almost 11:00 o'clock, but it was all worth. Not to mention, we stopped at the In N Out burger right down the freeway and i stood shoulder to shoulder with film icon Peter Fonda. That was just the absolute top to a great day.

Jahan, you rock as a tour guide.

^ Thanks for uploading them. I may use some in the TPR update if that is ok. If any of you have photos from the event, please upload them to the FTP site (details were emailed to you), create a Photo TR, or let us know if you have them on another site that we can link to.

The park really did go above and beyond with the nighttime ERT. The only problem was it seemed hardly anyone stayed for it! I was there for the very last 2 rides on Goliath with my friends, and it was one of the few times I actually saw more than 1 or 2 other people. I just can't believe people would have paid for the full day event and not stayed for nighttime ERT.

I am so sorry we missed the night ERT. It sounded like fun. We had an 8:30 plane to catch from Burbank back to Phoenix. We stayed until 7:15 and drove like a mad man down I-5! I think I drove at speeds faster than any coaster in the park! LOL

Despite missing the night ERT, we managed to ride all the coasters prior to the 12:00 lunch, with the exception of Ninja and Goldrusher, which we got on to during the tour!

The event was awesome! Thanks again!

I think a lot of people did leave, but there were quite a few people. The park is so big that with only 300 people walking around to several coasters, you wouldn't see large groups. We left right about 10:15/10:30 and there were still a lot of cars in the lot. We rode every coaster in under an hour! w00t!

Me and the 3 other people with me stayed till 10:30. The ERT was so great. We just went all over the place in that last hour. We did Batman 3 times without getting off. That was so great. It did seem like a lot of people had left, but i would just chalk that up to the size as well.

The only thing we ran into a problem with was that after we left the Magic Moments theater, all the places to eat around the park were closed. That was kind of disappointing because we were all starving. We just maid due with cookies till we got out of the park.

Cant say enough what a blast the whole day was! Hats off to TPR and SFMM! My expectations were well met, and then some.

Honestly I can't even begin to describe how awesome having 12 rides open for 2.5 hours for only 320 people was! The most amazing thing ever! It was unfortunate that I was extremely tired after riding only Riddler and Tatsu before leaving night ERT...

My friend and I made the bad mistake of staying up late the night before

I pray that some day there will be another event that will be just as good or BETTER! (might be pretty hard to top this last one) haha!

Once again I appreciate TPR and SixFlags for such an amazing time.

Thank you.

John (Jhcbiinoc) and I were there till 10:30. In fact, we had an entire Scream! train to ourselves. It was pretty dead, though, but we got some great night rides!

Glad I went. I needed this.

I would like to give a big thanks to TPR, Rob, and Magic Mountain for putting this event together. For those of you who stayed late, and went hunting for food only to end up at Johnny Rockets... you should have seen all you needed to see when all 'suits' rolled up their sleeves, got behind the fryers, and started slaving away at the grill to help take care of us.

These people went WAY above and beyond the call of duty and deserve to be commended for it. Magic Mountain is definitely making solid progress. I have voiced my concerns (and only concerns) about the mandatory lockers (Only on Riddlers, but still a worrisome trend) in another thread and won't rehash them here. I think this is the correct place to, in SFMM words, Celebrate their success. These people are taking great pride in their turn around effort. They know there is work ahead and that they're not done. In the words of Walt Disney "If we lose a customer because we were cheap, it will cost us 10 times that much to get them back" This is what they are fighting at the moment.

The best (and only IMO) way to thank them is to let people know about their efforts. Tell friends and family that SFMM isn't being sold. Tell the folks at work it isn't overrun with gang members anymore (I've never seen so many strollers at SFMM). We should reward these people's hard work by letting other folks know that SFMM is worth giving a second chance.

Yeah, it was funny how many people ended up at Johnny Rocket's. Unfortunately, my group did a lap around the park in the opposite direction looking for food instead of walking there directly from Magic Moments. Oh well, at least we got there in time. And yes, it was great to see Jay and Tim working in there. It was funny how many times we saw Tim throughout the day.

I think people more than got their $20 worth getting into the tours, the presentations, two meals, and the T-Shirt.

And you wouldn't see that many people being that they were spread out between 13 rides!

I know at 9:00 there was at least 30 to 40 people up or around Sky Tower and when we rode Scream! at 10:10 there were still quite a few cars in the lot.

There ended up only being 14 people out of about 320 who came just for the free ERT.

^We were up in the Sky Tower around 9 too, it was very impressive! I know everyone was spread out during nighttime ERT, but I'd say they were more concentrated at certain rides than others, mostly Tatsu and Goliath. The whole back of the park was very dead by 10. I just expected to see more people at, let's say, Riddler's, Batman, & Scream, since they weren't open for morning ERT.

My group and I were at the Gotham area for quite a while. What with our Batman Marathon and Riddler action. The Sky Tower collection was very awesome. I have a real bad fear of tall buildings, so, i did not dare get close to the windows, but i did look a lot of the stuff and it was very neat.

I am going to post a full TR with some pics later this evening (I just woke up a few hours ago and am glad I took the day off today to recover) but I can sum up how I feel about yesterdays event in one word: WOW. In a few more words, "absolutely the best enthusiast event I have ever attended".

Major, major thanks to Robb and Chris, to Jay, Neal, Tim and the entire SFMM staff for such an awesome time. In addition, Brandon deserves a thread of his own just for the Sky Tower museum, that is one heck of an accomplishment, from taking the initiative to make it happen to the final product.

(And special thanks to Neal for helping me get my camera out of the locker at 11pm last night, when I had to rush back to the park upon getting to my car and realizing I had left the camera in the locker!!!)

Wow--Yesterday was great!!! One of the best times I've ever had at the park! Felt like I was 15 again, running around and riding all the rides during ERT!

It was so fun to meet and play in the park with all of you! There were sooooooooooo many people at the event! I hope that all of you enjoyed the backstage tours! It was so much fun for me to share my little bits of the park with you. Truly a satisfying day.

I want to thank SFMM, Jay, Tim, and of course Neal for hosting us! That was the greatest treatment of coaster enthusiasts I have ever personally seen. I would also like to take the time to thank Robb, Elissa, Mike, Colin, and an ENTIRE team of TPR folks who helped pull this event off! Between a speedy registration, the colored tour group posts, the video compilations, and soooooooo much more, the event was amazing and enjoyable to be a part of, from both sides of the coin. I appreciate your hard work, very much!
