arrowfanman
Hey everybody! Ok, so I'll save you all the "explanation" that I gave everybody over here, but long story short--I had to decorate a cake! And not just to be ANY cake. You see, I had to decorate the cake to look like a desert monument! I know, I know! It's absurd! But it was a project I was humoring myself on for a class and I thought it would be an interesting challenge. Mind you, I've never decorated a cake before! So I brought TPR along to help me get the job done! I don't know if it "helped", but the the job most certainly DID get done! Check it out for yourself! I'll conclude tonight's PTR with a photo of a food joint I found at our local mall---ITS X MULITPLIED QUADRATICALLY BY THE SECOND POWER!!! Thanks all for reading. Hope you enjoyed it! That is, success--until KidTums threw up on me! Success!!!! Ok--now for what is always the most intense part in the "Food Network Challenge" series--THE CAKE MOVE!!! *gasp* *shreik* *bites nails* "What the HELL is that thing?!?!" There we go....much better! I have now successfully applied the "dirt" coating to the cake! Yeah, it STILL doesn't look very appetizing! =P Uh oh. Frosting on the floor....not good. Nobody tell Robb or Elissa! Yay! Almost done! I cant say that it looks entirely appetizing at this moment. Something tells me that's NOT going to change! =D While I take FOREVER working on the frosting, Elissa and KidTums save some time and start crushing the graham cracker "dirt". The skin is taking shape! Once we have our "pound cake skeleton", it's time to start frosting it over, to create the illusion that it is in fact one entire cake. Elissa helped me with the support construction! The skeleton is already taking shape! So it ends up Kristen was right--Monument Valley really WASN'T working out! So we had a change of plans! I'll do an arch from Arches National Park! "This isn't working out!" Now we have our "footer". Did you expect me to NOT do this in a 'construction update' format?! As you can see, I have surrounded myself with an environment which promotes creativity. Finally I can begin! First step is to remove the decorations that the cake came with. Don't mean to stomp on the artistic expression of the previous cake decorator, but--MY cake is going to be cooler anyway, so screw him/her. Oh! There it is! *sigh* I look away for ONE minute to get some inspiriation on the computer, and I come back to Robb feeding all of the frosting to Mike! And where the hell did the cake go?! Ok, so this is my initial "inspiration"--Monument Valley. I'm going to try and build a "monument" on the cake! No, Robb, NO!!!! Ok, so I have all of my "ingredients". As you can see, I have a pre-baked cake. What?! This is a cake-DECORATING TR, not a cake BAKING one. And yes Mike, we see you over there!

TheRapidsNerd
You know, so many of us wish we were there to hang out and share in these experiences. Very cool TR.
cfc
Hmm--did the cake make it to class, Jahan?
Carnage
You should have just bought one of those erotic penis cakes and called it a cactus. There is always a work around to any project.
IceDragon
What college do you go to that makes you decorate a cake for a project?! Well, once I become a high school teacher in a couple years I will have my first project for my class planned out. I will put these photos out of the archive and use them as an example. Oh and KT with the chocolate cake reminds me exactly of the scene from Matilda. Robb is the trenchible, KT is the boy, and Elissa is Miss Honey. Ok, maybe I'm the only one who was traumatized by a movie about child abuse when I was 7. Also, KT is already puking on TPR members. She's practicing for riding flats on upcoming coaster trips. Tyler No... I was traumatized too... I couldn't find the bloody cake anywhere! Then, some years later, we joined Costco and I found it... I couldn't believe the size of it! Heh, looks like you had great fun decorating the cake! Kidtums deffinately pulls all Robb's faces... Hehehe...
twistedmickey
Kidtums is working the hair! I like I like. No comment about the cake!
Hattuchili
The cake looks great, I would take a piece. I really enjoyed this PTR, good job, Jahan and thanks for posting. --Soren
Moose
I admit it, I love watching all those cake decorating shows. I am sure this would have been just as entertaining. (if not more so re:baby puke) Speaking of baby puke, my nephew(ish) decided to puke just as I held him face down above me.... so nice to have a baby puke all over your face. Everyone else found it soo entertaining.
arrowfanman
Thanks for all of the comments guys! Glad to see that you like the cake! Hmm--did the cake make it to class, Jahan? YES Chuck, it did, surprisingly! Which is saying something because I had to driving on this creepy back-"woods" (not really woods as I live in a desert, but you get the idea) road. The car was weaving, rocking, and turning the entire way, and the cake still held! -Jahan
TheRapidsNerd
You know, it's stuff like this that really makes the random thread fun. Jahan, you really did a great job with that cake. Building something like that isn't easy, even if the "footer" is aready poured. Congrats and hoping to see more culinary thread from you and the other chefs here at TPR.
