Â KD also had one that was known as sky pilot & was located roughly where dropzone is now.I was never really fond of that thing & was glad when they took it out a few years later...no doubt in response to the fatality on KI's flight commander. Â Didn't KBF also have one?that brings the total up to four so far. KBF did have one, XK-1. Flamingoland in the UK also had one called "Top Gun." I saw this one operating in 2002, and that was probably the last time I've seen one still in business... So I have posted this little bonus (it has been posted earlier before in this thread but, for those that are new, here it is again). A look back at Intamin's marketing of the Flight Trainer. Intamin's flier for the new ride. Here the ride is dubbed "Flying Trainer" Here the ride is featured on the cover of the ride catalog This looks like the prototype ride set up at Intamin's factory. They list Kings Dominion and Marriott's Santa Clara as ride locations. Somebody at Intamin must not have got the memo that Marriott was out of the theme park biz. I do remember it having an clear canopy on the ride vehicle as opposed to the pic that Robb posted. I also noted this difference commented on in other boards. Â The first time I went to CGA in the early 90s, Skyhawk was still up and running, but I was scared of upside-down rides so I didn't go on. What a mistake I made! Now I'll probably never get to ride a Flight Trainer. For those like me who are interested in what a Flight Trainer actually did, I found some media footage of Flight Commander at KI: ( )Â It is interesting to me that the Triple Wheel wasn't mentioned much in the brochures. I would visit probably 5-6 times during the summer. Loved Willard's Whizzer - small but fun coaster. Loved the 5 cent root beers at the store right next to Whizzer and the IMAX theater. Ah the good ole days! I have a Marriott's Great America frisbee around the house somewhere still. I don't let the kids play with it. I tell them it's has sentimental value. And I loved BOTH the boat and log rides. The place was always so clean too. When Paramount bought it, it went to pot. Dirty, trash and gum everywhere. I haven't been back since and that was probably 7-8 years ago. Now just go to Discovery Kingdom all the time and have season passes there for the kids. I remember the Rapids was known for having a "Gum Tree" which is now gone. No more gum trees! About that frisbee, I noticed MGA also had yo-yos with their branding on it...I totally want one (or two) of those for some 2-handed looping, and a combo of 2 things I love: yo-yos and theme parks! Â Still looking for a 1993 map as well as now a 1996 map (which I believe was a revamped version of the 1993 map with color added to it). It is from one of my FAVORITE ride manufacturers...MACK. Not only are their rides amazing to ride but they are also beautiful to look at. I hope we see more of this company in the states soon! It looks like the Sea World parks have discovered the greatness of these rides now the other parks need to get on board. Mack also owns the incredible Europa-Park. It's fairly new. It showed up at the 2009 IAAPA show and it 2010 they said they have sold some of them. I must tell you, seeing these rides makes me wanna go out and buy a few of them myself, but I don't own an amusement park, so I'll just have to keeping dreaming. Â One more thing, if Knoebels decided to use a Mack bobsled coaster instead of trying to bring back a style of coaster that might never be up and running, Flying Turns would've been running for several years now. From all the years that I have rode Avalanche at Kings Dominion, it's a wonder why there aren't more park that offer this style of coaster (Okay, I remember that there is a another bobsled coaster called "La Vibora " at Six Flags over Texas, but this is a different kind of bobsled coaster). Â I hate to admit this, but those pictures of Mack's water coaster looked very sexy! Â "Hey, you wanna dream about running Mack rides in your own amusement park?
