KENNYWOOD

The Laser Loop was a great addition to Kennywood in 1980, their first looping coaster. It was also the last shuttle loop that Schwarzkopf made. It, of course, was later removed to make way for the Steel Phantom and it now thrills riders in Mexico City.

Great Kennywood brochure. I feel lucky to have ridden those big 4-bench cars on the Racer. Those things were soooooo heavy, and with no lap bar or seat divider, you could ride alone and slide all over the place.

And the Dipper. What a bad decision the park made in removing this special custom design. It was a real gem. I miss it.

We are going to have a little break from the daily updates of 1980 brochures. My computer crashed and it had to go into the shop (Vista SUCKS). Hopefully we will continue on Monday.

Shane, sorry to hear of your recent computer woes. That's an awful feeling.

I have the perfect solution for you: Apple MacBook Pro.

I've been swamped lately, but I'll try to drag some material out of The Closet to pick up the slack while you await the resurrection of your PeeCee.

Kings Island

Sorry for the interuption due to technical difficulty. Now that my computer is out of the shop and I am hundreds of dollars poorer lets get back to out 1980 collection of park brochures. Here's Kings Island.

I could be imagining things, but I swear you've already posted the Kennywood, EG, and KD brochures in this thread somewhere.

Other than that, keep up the awesome work!

You are not imagining things, occassionaly I will post a brochure, postcard or photo twice depending on the update. For instance when I did a large update on Kings Dominion in the 80's I thought it would be appropriate to post the 1980 brochure... Then as part of this 1980 brochure update it would be incomplete without the 1980 Kings Dominion brochure.

I know this is a horrible thought, but the look at the front of the Libertyland brochure and view the image only from the top of the flag and higher quickly. Does the flag look like anything else to anyone?

I sure hope that was not some subliminal ploy.

I'm not going to reveal the image that came into to mind, unless someone else says the same thing.

You know I think I see too. I just can't believe that the park would stoop this low!!! Some banks just can't leave well enough alone... LOL!

^not even close to what I saw and that is refreshing. Still when I look at the part of the photo I cropped and think of Tennessee this horrible image comes to mind. And it is far worse than any bank.

Sorry to hijack your wonderful thread Shane.

^ Hehe my apologies as well Shane in contributing to this so called "hi-jack" of your thread But seriously that was the first logo that popped into my head when I saw that flag. I hope that made you at least "chuckle" just a little Mr. Gator

Now back to our regular schedule programming...

Marriott's Great America - CA

1980, the year of the Demon. Unfortunately those two great speed bumps from the "Turn of the Century" were removed for the more popular (at that time) loops. I have to say that the conversion was pretty well done...the ride even had it's own theme song. "Have you ever seen the Demon...Have you ever heard him scream?"

Marriott's Great America - IL

Not much difference between this brochure and the one from the park in CA, but if you have a keen eye you can spot the differences. I miss the days of when these parks were run by Marriott.

^Even worse, adjusted for inflation, that's just $28.20 today. If only it was still that cheap.

Looking at these old brochures, it is sad how quality has gone down. American parks actually had a sense of quality, but that has sadly been replaced by quantity and profitability.

Opryland U.S.A

Has it really been 10 years since they closed down this park to make way for a shopping mall? Boy the time sure does go by fast when you are having fun...or should I say when you aren't having fun...anymore.

If there were a list of the 10 biggest mistakes made in the Amusement Industry I would venture to bet that closing this park might rank up there pretty high, maybe right between Disney's California Adventure and AstroWorld's closing.

On a positive note...I LOVE the Opryland Hotel!!!!
