kraken613
On the Weather Channel they just mentioned something about it being really bad in Kemah.
terrancew_hod
I just checked the webcam in Kemah; the power is still on but the picture is awful blurry, probably from the high winds and rain.
kraken613
can you link that webcam please.
terrancew_hod
The link was several pages ago: http://www.myfoxhoustonlive.com/ They just interviewed the owner of Kemah Boardwalk and he mentioned the fact that it is at sea level without a sea wall and he hoped he doesn't lose the rollercoaster. (The were forecasting between 18-25ft surge). He also he closed the boardwalk on Thursday and put away things. He said he'll work to get the restaurant opened on Monday, but they'd have to wait and see on the attractions.
coasterbill
I don't have high hopes for this one. This place might be totally destroyed the way this storm is going.

GuruGuys
I don't have high hopes for this one. This place might be totally destroyed the way this storm is going. Kemah Boardwalk was mostly built very recently and is made to withstand these things. The buildings are not going anywhere and they are very VERY prepared to clean up the mess once the water resides. I don't doubt Mr. Feritita that they will have some of the restaurants open on Monday pending available access to the city. Kemah Boardwalk is going nowhere, they handle these things quite well. -GG P.S. I have no power, nor does most of my area (about 5 miles north of downtown Houston). Internet still works though

Unfortunately they didn't build it against high water. That's the concern; wood soaked for hours in 15+ ft water isn't a good combination. They wasn't concerned about the wind more than the surge that will occur. The news say that although the hurricane is close to a cat 3 before it came ashore, because of the size the surge is closer to a 4 or 5. That's why they were putting out the dire warnings for the low lying areas and the coast. Houston got hit with a cat 2 at 110mph winds instead of the 1 they were forecasting. They said that the more damaging winds are at a high elevations, so windows in skyscrapers are getting blasted out. Terry

verticalzero
New pictures of flooding. The "Bullet" should go faster with all that water on the track and have a water splash for it's ending.
PhantomNick
Well, my thoughts go out to everyone in that general Texas coast area being affected by Ike. And although there are tons of things that I imagine those residents are concerned about, here's hoping that the Bullet makes it out of this without any major damage. I would hate to see the area lose a coaster that is essentially still new, especially one that seemingly put the little Kemah Boardwalk on the map. terrancew_hod
Just read an article on MSN (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26637482/page/2/); they said the Kemah Boardwalk is submerged. Doesn't look too good.
kraken613
You also have to think the flooding and surge is still getting worse in Galveston Bay. Along the coast its evened out but up in the bay its rising still.
JFrombaugh
Well, if it turns out it is destroyed, at least I've got the credit already.
Johnny Upsidedown
Just saw a report showing Kemah from the air.. If it was live as it said.. The park is still flooded.. It looked like the drop ride was still standing, and looked like the Bullet was still standing, but the rest of the place was flooded pretty bad.. astroworldfan1
I'm wearing my Boardwalk Bullet shirt right now in honor of it because it's being destroyed at this very moment. -Tatum
TheRapidsNerd
Well guys, I just saw several pics on CNN.com and damage to Houston, Galveston, and surrounding is pretty bad. Tough to gauge how bad Kemah got walluped. We'll just have to wait and see and keep good thoughts. Makes me wonder what kind of shape Schlitterbahn at Galveston is in. ginzo
You know I always thought I was going to have to fly down to Houston so that I could have all the possible Gravity Group credits. But now, thanks to Ike, I might be able to have all the GG credits without even leaving the house. Seriously though, I hope that this disaster gives Kemah the opportunity to finally fix up the Bullet and make it the coaster it was supposed to be. Johnny Upsidedown
Was looking at some photos of the devastation from IKE. Trying to gauge what Kemah might look like and what kind of damage to the park. This photo http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26643689/displaymode/1107/s/2/framenumber/17/ was taken just across the bridge from Kemah.. Seabrook is just a mile north of Kemah. You can view it for yourself in this map, just zoom into where Keman is and look at the photo in Seabrook.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26679658
Skittlebrau
Helicopter footage shows the Boardwalk and a couple of rides - just a glimpse of the Bullet. It looks like some restaurants and buildings sustained some heavy damage in places. http://utube.smashits.com/video/vDc2Qnt0JM4/Hurricane-Ike-Damage-to-Kemah-TX.html
robbalvey
^Great video link, thanks for sharing! The park and rides look pretty screwed. Coaster is still standing...darn. The restaurants also look like they took quite the beating. It will be interesting to see what they do. Write stuff off and start over, repair, rebuild, what!?
