Nürburgring launched coaster

The famous German racecircuit Nürburgring will build a coaster for 2009 as part of their masterplan. It appears to be a X-car from Maurer Söhne. There isn't much information yet, but there are alot of rumour on European themeparksites that this coaster will be a recordholder and beat Kingda Ka in terms of speed!

Sounds cool. When I first heard about the X-car coasters, they seemed like some of the coolest coasters ever. I haven't heard such great reviews, though.

I heard it was going to be closer to 130 mph, because on another source about this it was reported to have a top speed of 214 (appx 130).

But really my question (which I posed in another thread) would be the type of system Maurer Sohne would use to achieve this launch and the time rate of the launch.

On page 3 of the master plan link, it shows the layout of a "race coaster." Layout looks like a typical Intamin rocket with a tophat.

 

Except this time its going to be faster and (perhaps?)taller than the previous 2.

This ride will be good for publicity stunts at the all the big motor races, and could keep people happy when Rock AM Ring's line-up goes a bit sour at some stage during the festival.

Actually, it will tie to TTD's top speed - One kilometer is 0.6 miles - multiply 200 by 0.6 and you get 120.

Wow, very nice, but given how much trouble Kingda Ka was, I'm surprised a larger one is being built. It looks like the complex is in for some big changes, but the coaster might seem out of place if there is no park around it.

Authentischer könnte es kaum sein. Die Anspannung vor dem Start, das Adrenalin, das aufsteigt, wenn die Ampel auf Grün springt und der Körper, der unter der Beschleunigung in den Sitz gepresst wird. So muss sich ein Rennfahrer fühlen - und so werden sich auch die Besucher des Nürburgrings fühlen, wenn das spektakuläre Fahrgeschäft, im Fachjargon "Coaster" genannt, die Gäste auf 217 km/h katapultiert. Zum Vergleich: Ein Formel-1-Bolide schafft dies nicht in 2,5 Sekunden, sondern braucht aus dem Stand fast doppelt so lange.

 

Direkt entlang der Start- und Zielgeraden des Nürburgrings wird diese Fahrt zum einmaligen, echten und nachhaltigen Erlebnis. Nirgendwo auf der Welt können sich Fahrgäste direkt neben einer Rennstrecke auf solche Geschwindigkeiten schießen lassen. Nach dem Einstieg der Passagiere, der in einem Bahnhof in der neuen Indoor-Attraction erfolgt, steuert der Coaster parallel zur Start- und Ziellinie auf der realen Grand-Prix-Strecke seinen Startpunkt an. Der Wagen beschleunigt von hier auf 217 km/h, fährt 480 Meter entlang der Rennstrecke und biegt dann in einer scharfen Linkskurve ab. Die Route führt zurück durch den Boulevard und endet wieder im Bahnhof. Acht Personen finden dabei gleichzeitig in zwei Vierer-Wagen Platz. Insgesamt werden 1,2 Kilometer zurückgelegt. Eine Menge Adrenalin inklusive.

 

Hersteller des Fahrgeschäfts ist die Firma S&S Power, die sich in einem weltweiten öffentlichen Ausschreibungsverfahren durchgesetzt hat. "S&S Power ist auf dem Gebiet der Druckluft betriebenen Coaster weltweit eines der führenden Unternehmen und verfügt über sehr viel Erfahrung", erklärt Dr. Walter Kafitz, Hauptgeschäftsführer der Nürburgring GmbH. "Die Herstellung der einzelnen Komponenten (u.a. Wagen, Räder, Stahl) unterliegt dabei dem deutschen TÜV-Standard, der Deutschen Industrie Norm (DIN) sowie der Europa Norm (EN) und wird fast ausschließlich von Betrieben in Deutschland und Europa übernommen." Die Beschleunigung mit Druckluft ermöglicht die höchsten Geschwindigkeiten, ist zuverlässig, sicher und verbraucht wenig Energie.

Der Coaster ist ein Baustein des Projektes "Nürburgring 2009", das sich aktuell in der Bauphase befindet. So entsteht entlang der Start- und Zielgeraden ein Boulevard, der wetterunabhängig und ganzjährig nutzbar mehrere Angebote unter einem Dach vereint: Markenwelten führender Automobil-Hersteller und Zubehör-Spezialisten, eine neue Indoor-Attraktion (als Mischung aus Science-Center, Museum und Erlebniswelt), eine Kartbahn, eine Indoor-Arena sowie eine Eventhalle und ein Welcome-Center. Zusätzlich entsteht eine moderne Haupttribüne mit 5.000 Plätzen und Business-Lounge. Ein neues Vier-Sterne-Hotel mit 160 Zimmern, das "Motorsport-Resort" in der Nähe des Offroad-Parks sowie die Erlebnisgastronomie "Dorf Eifel" runden das Gesamtangebot in der Region ab.

 

Bis zum Frühjahr nächsten Jahres wird auf dieses Weise aus der erfolgreichsten Rennstrecke der Welt ein ganzjähriges Freizeit- und Businesszentrum rund um Motorsport und Mobilität. Schon jetzt lockt der Nürburgring jährlich ca. zwei Millionen Besucher in die Eifel, die rund 100 Motorsportveranstaltungen und 200 sonstige Events besuchen.

After the entry of the passengers, that results in a railway station in the new Indoor-Attraction, the Coaster heads for parallel its start point to the start line and goal line on the real Grand-Prix-stretch. The vehicle accelerates of here on 217 km/h, goes 480 meters along the race track and bends then in a sharp to the left curve off. The route leads back through the Boulevard and ends again in the railway station. Eight persons find at the same time simultaneously place in two Vierer-vehicles. Altogether 1.2 kilometers are traversed. A quantity adrenalin inclusive.

 

Manufacturer of the load business is the firm S&S Power that prevailed in a worldwide public announcement procedure. "S&S Power is in the field of the compressed air of operated Coaster worldwide one of the leading businesses and controls very much experience", explains Dr. Walter Kafitz, principal director of the Nürburgring gmbh. In addition a modern head platform with 5,000 places and business-Lounge emerges. A new four-star-hotel with 160 rooms, the "motoring-Resort" in the vicinity of the Offroad-park as well as the experience gastronomys "villages Eifel" round off the total offer in the region.

 

To the spring next year an all-year leisure time center and business center will become in this manner out of the most successful race track of the world all around motoring and mobility. Already now attracts visit the Nürburgring annually ca. two million visitors into the Eifel, the approximately 100 motor sporting events and 200 other Events.

Wow...another one of these horrible rides is being built? There is a reason only two(excluding Powder Keg) S&S launched coasters have been built, and this ride probably will be as bad as the two already out. Now, if something can be done about the roughness and the painful airtime, then this might be good. While the gp will love this ride, it just won't be as good as a launched coaster of this size could be. However, I'd still ride if given the chance as that launch should be amazing.

^Agreed. For such a fast coaster, it's a shame that they chose a company whose others have been so painful. Hopefully this will be the exception to that rule. And who knows?, this could end great. It's still nice to hear there'll be a new 2nd fastest coaster in the world.
