Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - Pixar Place Hotel transformation will be completed on January 30th, 2024!

It's really amazing but absurd how busy the park has become in recent years. Honestly they could charge $200 a day for Disneyland or Park Hopper admission, and it would probably not stop the amount of crowds.

I remember back somewhere around 2011/2012 where I heard there'd be a price hike for passes (It was currently at $500 for the year), and me and my girlfriend were like screw it, $35 a month for a Premium Pass, no blockout dates with free parking? Let's do it. And it ended up being an amazing year because CA Adventure just happened to have its massive facelift going on. But it's gotten to a point where I'm glad I had it a couple years ago because it was just about the time this influx of people constantly started over populating the park, and it really made it tough to go and have a fun time.

I don't know what they're going to do. The park is only so big and only so many people can go. But I haven't visited since 2012 because I just don't want to deal with the crowds. I'm glad for Disney, but it's gonna be tough for them to expand a resort that's semi-land-locked in the heart of Anaheim.

The mob mentality at the park was a little unnerving. At one point in between Paint the Night and the fireworks show, security were trying to divert the crowd to go around the rope. Eager to get a good spot, people weren't listening and were still going under the rope. The entire plaza was packed full of people with barely any walking room even on the paths because people were all trying to move to get a good view of the castle. I'm just glad I don't have small children because it would be super easy to lose your child in a crowd like that. I can't even imagine what Christmas or New Years is like.

It's funny...after just getting back from WDW, I was telling everyone how much more I enjoy WDW because the parks there are better designed to handle the crowds. Disneyland has great atmosphere and rides (being the original), but the park always feels so crowded it takes away from the experience.

This hit me pretty hard when I was there in September. As much as I love Disneyland, it always seems slammed--even on a non-holiday Monday in September. DCA has a more "relaxed" feel.

Just got back from 5 days in California, 4 of them at DL/DCA. The new Star Wars stuff is pretty cool, and I would say 1 out of every 5 people in the park was wearing a Star Wars tshirt.

Crowds were insane on Sunday. However, I still managed to see and do everything I wanted thanks to FastPass, the Disneyland app, and timing things out just right. Luckily I arrived about 7:45am and was able to do a lot of stuff in the 1st 2 hours with no wait (Big Thunder, Haunted Mansion 2X, Autopia, Monorail.) Sunday was also the 1st day they did 2 Christmas parades, 2 Paint the Night parades, 2 fireworks shows, and 2 Fantasmics. Whew!

enjoy the pics!

Awesome pictures!!!

Got to ride the new Star Tours today, it was awesome! Lately the crowds have taken a nosedive after the late shows... 10 minute Star Tours line at the end of the night (75 for HSM). According to the app the line for HSM hit 110 minutes earlier in the day, yikes.

Great pics pianojohn! I'd like to think I was in one of those Radiator Springs Racer vehicles since we were there the same days. I will also throw my hat in the ring and praise the new Star Tours, and Hyperspace Mountain. I was underwhelmed by the Launch Bay. Honestly, the best part about it is the shop inside. Tons of cool stuff to buy, right and left if you're a fan of SW, like I am. The night time lighting of Tomorrowland is so pretty. Pictures don't do it justice.

Hitting Disneyland the first weekend in April for the first time, planning to spend two full days in the parks, Sunday & Monday. I'll be by myself, and trying to hit as much of both the parks as I can. Any advice on any major areas/rides to hit first in either of the parks? Or just general advice to get the most out of my two days? Any advice is appreciated!

I would head to DCA first thing for a Radiator Springs Racers Fast Pass (and hit the stand-by line if it isn't too long). Depending on when your return time for Racers is, you could head over to Disneyland and ride a bunch of stuff there (and snag another Fast Pass).

I would make Space Mountain a priority due to its current popularity with the Star Wars overlay, as the fastpasses run out VERY quickly and the standby line can reach two hours.

That's the best strategy for being in the park as early as possible. After you get that pass, get in line for Star Tours. You will get the Force Awakens tie in no matter what. After that, go grab Holiday Haunted Mansion fast passes, and if it tickles your fancy, go back to Tomorrowland and get your photo opportunities. The shop there is really cool, if you're into the franchise.

Hey y'all. I'm going to Disneyland/California Adventures for Christmas this year, and I wanted to know what it's like. I've heard things... I just wanted to know if there's anything (good or bad) that I should be prepared for.

I'm scared... I'm going Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Get there at park open, snag a fastpass for something right away, jump into another line...over two days you should still be able to see everything. But rest assured it will be PACKED.

This. Get there 30 minutes or so before opening, utilize Fastpass as much as possible, bring your patience and you'll be fine.
