Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - 70th Anniversary events and lineup announced!

I enjoy the subs and actually would miss them if they were to not return. That said, it would be all about what was proposed to replace them that would sway my thinking one way or the other. If, for example, they planned a ride along the lines of the HKDL Grizzly Gulch coaster (not necessarily the same theme, but same basic type of coaster) then I'd be all over that. If it were to be some combination of shops, eateries, and meet-n-greets, then I'd prefer to keep the subs.

I like the Nemo Subs, but I won't really miss them if they leave. I'll try to get a ride on it when I visit tomorrow just in case, but I'm expecting crowds will probably be too heavy to justify the wait time.

This.

I liked the subs when they opened, but shortly after I noticed a lot of the effects stopped working, and the colors looked faded. Now all I feel when I ride is claustrophobia.

Quick question about buying annual passes.

So I bought them (1 deluxe and 1 premium) at AAA for a discount today and I got the e-ticket printout. On the instructions in it says to proceed directly to the turnstile at either gate where the e-ticket will be exchanged for a regular ticket. Then it says to go to a ticket booth for processing.

So I have to bypass the ticket booths and go inside just to go back outside and get it processed? Also, where do you get your photo taken?

You don't have to go straight to the turnstiles. You can go to the ticket booths to get you AP. The reason they ask you to go to the turnstiles it's to get you out of the long ticket lines in the morning and into the park.

You will get your AP photo taken by a Photo Pass photographer inside the park.

I'm going on Thursday and I am hoping for light crowds so hopefully long ticket booth lines will be out of the question. I'm just gonna go straight to them before the parks open and get my AP so that I can start getting FPs during the day.

Thank you so much for making that more clear!

I just got a pass last week so I went through the process. Go to the ticket booth and show them the paper. That's the only way to get your pass processed. After they give you your pass (i.e. the actual card), they'll ask you to go to the photo center on Main Street (Right next to the corn dog stand). They'll take your photo out front and scan it onto your pass. They'll tell you that your photo will be uploaded to your pass within 24 hours.

What they do is that when they scan the photo onto your pass, the picture of your face will show up on their screen so that you are identified to make sure you match the pass. When they take it, it'll take less than 24 hours to upload on your pass. Until it uploads, they'll card you while entering the parks.

Hope this was helpful.

EDIT: Curse you people for being faster posters than I am!

^If they scan your pass and there isn't a picture, they'll check your ID and remind you that you need to get your picture taken that day.

Just as an FYI, when you take the printout to the turnstile, they will scan it, take it, and give you a paper card that will work in the Fastpass machines. Unless you arrive super early (45+ minutes early) or there is no line at the ticket booths, I'd recommend just going into the park and stopping by a ticket booth when you decide to hop over to the other park (usually ticket booth lines disappear by around noon), where you'll exchange the paper ticket for the actual AP card. Thursday shouldn't be all that crowded, but Disneyland is rarely dead anymore so you'll definitely want to be inside the park as early as you can for the best rope drop positioning.

I finally saw the winter version of World of Color using the Cathay dinner package option…

I liked it a lot more than the regular version since they actually tried to tie all the clips together with a host, instead of just making it movie trailer after movie trailer. I would much prefer that they keep the season theme, and just have "hosts" tying all the clips together for a custom show every season rather than going back to the normal version! The lighting was impressive too. As was the steak at Cathay Circle.

I had the same feelings when I saw it this last Friday. I wanted to do the Cathay Circle dinner but it was sold out. How were the menu options for the WOC package?

This layout for Winter Dreams was the original version if World of Color. Little squirt was the character that pulled it all together, but the problem was that squirt didn't talk or have any emotions (cause he was a "fountain") So it didn't work, and some non-creative people got their hands on some of it = What we have today. With the success of this version, we could get a new WoC eventually.

They give you a set menu of 3 courses. Soup or Salad (Soup was awesome---don't remember what it was), 7 or 8 entree options (I remember a chicken, pork chop, steak, halibut, and few others), then two desert options to choose from (apple something or other that was awesome and something chocolate that my friend said was awesome). Definitely did not feel ripped off. Quality was great.

^I did something similar at Wine Country Trattoria - was about $30 for three-course lunch and priority seating for WoC. The meal was pretty good, and we got a spot right on the fence. Definitely worth it!

Well, to be fair, the concept of little squirt sounds pretty dumb, so I am not entirely sure I blame the non-creative people for making changes. Too bad they turned out to be bad ones! Olaf hosting works perfect for winter, so I really hope they can do 4 custom suers (one for each season) that can be hosted by a different Disney/Pixar character.

After seeing Frozen last weekend, I regret (well, only slightly) that I missed World of Color when I was there last month. The movie was good.

Then again, I'm not really into theme-park shows.

Oh, no, those were separate things. The creative team killed Squirt.
