Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

I judge theme parks all the time because I work in the industry, however, I am NEVER looking for something to praise or criticize. I just enjoy going to theme parks to have fun, but by force of habit I cannot help but notice certain things.

 

It seems like most Disney fans lose track of the fun part and only want to scrutinize. Which serves exactly zero purpose.

And I'm tired of WDW vs. DL. I don't consider either resort as "better" than one of the other, they are just different. WDW puts some things at DL to shame, and vice versa. People can prefer one resort to the other, but they are so different it's hard to compare and call one better. Plus, DL Fanboys that keep bitching about the small stuff are just making the rest of us ashamed to be DL fans, shut up and enjoy what you get. Seriously, what spoiled brat complains about getting through the line faster, but not fast enough?

 

I couldn't agree more, especially after being at WDW for 5 days recently, and having Disneyland as my home park for my whole life.

 

As much as I like Disneyland, it's the population that kills it for me - most people from So Cal - it's a completely different experience in Florida, where people are polite.

 

And what's this I keep hearing about Ariel's hair? I've seen that mentioned a few times now.

^ The second Ariel AA on the ride (the one in the Under The Sea scene) had sculpted hair that sort of looked like an ice cream swirl. A few months after the ride opened, the AA was switched out with another one that had a different hair sculpt and Disney fans think it was because they complained that it got changed.

As much as I like Disneyland, it's the population that kills it for me - most people from So Cal - it's a completely different experience in Florida, where people are polite.

 

I think that is part of the problem. Disneyland has too many locals. Florida seems to have a better balance.

I think this is true of avid fans of any particular park, but hard-core Disney fans take it to a whole other level.

As I've said elsewhere, this is one of the reasons I stay away from single-park fansites. Too many obsessive people .

Yeah, when people dress up as Indiana Jones and obsess over the ride, or when grown men hunt down the princesses for signatures and pictures, I have the tendency to puke..

 

But I do find entertainment while doing so.

I think what it comes down to, and this kinds of piggy backs what Robb had said earlier, that SoCal residents feel like having Disneyland is their birthright. It's supposed to be be there for them. People on the east coast are just stoked that they have a Disney park to go to at all, the fact that the resort is huge and has the most parks is just icing on the cake.

 

Like cfc said, it's because of this reason that I try to avoid the single-park fansites more and more. Way too obsessive and self obsessed.

My goodness, where are you guys encountering all these obnoxious so-cal people at? The people I meet couldn't be nicer or down to earth, including people I have met from this site. I have learned that these kinds of people exist everywhere, and IMO, easily ignored.

^As much as I like to defend my people, EVERY SINGLE TIME I travel, I always think to myself "Man! People are way nicer here!"

^ There's nothing to defend.. Californians are assholes. I've just been lucky enough to have done so much traveling to see it.

 

When you go to other states and people actually want to have conversations and make small talk (not because it's part of their job and their training tells them too), you realize how bad things really are in CA.

Since I've traveled so much, and have had the "California Sucks Revelation," I'm not offended at all.

 

Which is why I don't see myself living here for the rest of my life.

To be fair, when I lived in California, it was Northern. And when I visit the LA area, it's so much nicer than Vegas, I love it. And as I said, I personally have met nasty, entitled people everywhere I have traveled.

^There are lots of us that call Southern California HOME and I like to think we are a great bunch of people!

 

Unfortunately, there is some kind of nasty, entitled magnet underneath our city (I think it's under Hollywood), that just attracts a large volume of these folks from all over the world!

Absolutely. I have NEVER said that it's only California. Nowhere in the world is free of frustrations, idiot people, or someone you just want to mentally strangle, but it just happens more frequently, and more obviously in Southern California.

 

Funny side note. We are currently in Park City, Utah on a ski vacation...

 

Today we were cut off by someone who got frustrated that everyone was driving slowly due to "weather conditions." - California plates

Other day we were line jumped by a guy with his two kids in the chair lift line - Californian

Had someone butt into our private conversation to tell us we were "wrong" about something (we weren't) - guess where they were from?

 

These have been the *ONLY* incidents of obnoxious people we've encountered so far on this trip. And yes, it's been VERY amusing to us to see!

This makes me lol too much. TBH, with Valleyfair as my home amusement park, I would be thrilled to have bathrooms decent enough to critique like that.

Back in August, we told you our Creative Entertainment team was developing a spectacular live entertainment experience for the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland park. Today, I’m thrilled to share with you some more details about this amazing new show, “Mickey and the Magical Map.”

 

The wise sorcerer Yen Sid tells of a wondrous map – one unlike any other – with the power to take dreamers to any place imaginable. But when young apprentice Mickey Mouse attempts to paint the map’s one unfinished spot, he stumbles into a fantastic adventure through worlds of music, color and beloved characters, as he discovers the mystery of the map’s magic!

 

“Mickey and the Magical Map” debuts in summer 2013 at Disneyland park. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog in the coming months for more on the show, as well as additional details about the all-new Fantasy Faire, opening

 

 

It sounds along the same story as how Epic Mickey starts. Painting a map, and something happens. Though, this time its not an Ink Monster, its something good.

Really nice to see Disneyland getting a proper show again. For me these things are kinda a one time thing (or never in some cases, I've never seen the Aladdin show at DCA or Nemo at AK). I know many people like shows though, and it's one of the things that gets high praise at WDW and DL really lacks.
