Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - Pixar Place Hotel transformation will be completed on January 30th, 2024!

I don't really see any benefit coming from them adding a streetcar. Maybe they think if they added it they could get people to park at the Angels stadium.

Really though I've never experienced completely horrid traffic in the Disneyland area. If there ever is it's probably just for certain special events and things, and it would be stupid to put into something like this and spend the cash to run it year round when the true benefit will only come a few times a year.

Every place this thing is supposed to stop, besides out by the stadium, is all right next to each other.

Once again, the streetcar is not necessarily meant to assist those in vehicles, rather to expand the ability to reach the park and commute around the 3 mile resort area via public transportation. For being a 'World Class Resort,' it sure is annoying having to walk 1/4 mile from the Amtrak through a business park to transfer to a shoddy city bus to get to Katella and Harbor, just to walk another half mile north. Think outside the car.

From a tourism perspective, would you rather have the ability to get around the area easily if you want to leave the park, or would you rather rent a car at $40 a day for the off chance you decide to go somewhere else?

^The point people seem to be trying to make, and that I agree with, it this: Currently, in the area, people drive more then they arrive by any other transportation. So, if people are already driving, the street car has the potential to add to the street traffic and may not see high ridership because so many people have their cars. This can change if they add a good enough system that entices people to use it instead of arriving by car, but the system as it stands now, is not really anything of real use.

Now, the monorail solves the traffic issue and has a much more efficient and practical route. It would provide a much better service to the city. Still, the question remains if people will actually see this as a reason to leave their car behind to visit the city. I think the monorail offers more promise but costs more.

Its not the anyone doesn't want better public transit, we just don't see the street car as the solution.

The city will NEVER see a return on their investment if they were to build a monorail. If Las Vegas couldn't support a monorail, there is NO WAY Anaheim could. The cost is just too high.

Again it is worth noting the city council only approved spending money for the EIR. That will answer the question as to whether or not it is feasible.

Maybe its just me, but something like a monorail in Vegas seems like a bust right off the bat. I didn't particularly find the route they chose (along the dumpy backstreets, away from the more popular areas of Vegas) or the ease of convenience particularly favorable. Taxis are abundant in Vegas, much more so than in Anaheim. I also don't really think of Las Vegas as a place where they put much effort into the longevity or upkeep of their projects, which in the end will hurt its success. For example, the end of the monorail line is at a Casino (Sahara) that doesn't even exist anymore. Talk about poor planning!

IMO where they are considering public transportation in Anaheim, a monorail is something more practical for the long term than the one in Vegas. Getting from the Honda Center/Angel Stadium/Metrolink Station to places like Disneyland, DT Anaheim or the surrounding Convention Center and vice-versa seems like it would really draw public appeal. All you'd have to do is have a line down Katella. You could go from San Diego Metrolink Station, to the Anaheim Metrolink Station, to the Convention Center/Disney area without even having to get in a car! If you're at a hotel near the convention center, you could get on the monorail to take clients to the ballgame, hit the bars after, and get back without driving.

It seems like the surrounding infrastructure (Convention Center, Sports Stadiums, Amusement Parks) in Anaheim is much more permanent than say, Casinos that are run down in 10-15 years and lose popularity. A monorail line down the center of Katella would be in-sight visually, which then becomes close and efficient, and would draw both residents of the city, and tourists. And last, in order to be an effective mode of transportation, I really feel like it needs to be out of the way of auto traffic, independent of how busy the streets are at any given time. That's what makes it appealing, when it saves time. Zooming past traffic below at 4pm during rush hour provides that.

There are some good points there! I think the biggest thing with the LV monorail is that its located on the back of the hotels. Some of them, are so long and the stations arent always easy to get to. As well, with the monorail in the back, you have to wader through the hotel to get to the casino.

If they built it out front, I think it would have been much more successful. Which, is what Anaheim would do no matter what system they build. It would be out in the street or up in the air for everyone to see and easily access.

Also, Im not totally pushing for a monorail (cause apparently they cost a lot?) I just want an elevated system, off the street. I don't care as much whats on the track, so long as its in the air and not in traffic. Hell, build an elevated street car down the median, haha!

That's exactly what the purpose of the street car is. It might take away a lane of traffic, but it will also take away employees of all the resort business, businessmen/tourists not having to take their car to the park, disneyland guests have a cheaper alternative to parking (I know I'd be in for paying the trolley fare vs Disney parking since I don't have a premium pass anymore!), and so on.

Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure will resume operation on Dec. 8 after a three-month refurbishment.

Besides the popular inside ride, based on the "Indiana Jones" movies, no other Disneyland Resort attraction is scheduled for closures in December because of the heavy crowds coming for special holiday features and long school breaks, said Kevin Rafferty Jr., a Disneyland Resort spokesman.

While crowds are lighter in early December, closer to Christmas usually is among the busiest times of the year – sometimes requiring the two Disney parks in Anaheim to temporarily halt admissions.

Visitors may see slight changes to Indiana Jones.

Disney added a new mural in the dart room, and the bridges got a new look with jagged planks, Rafferty said. Overall, the ride has undergone "show modifications to enhance lighting, paint, figure animation and other effects," Rafferty said.

Indiana Jones, which opened in 1995, is among the most expensive rides to maintain at the Disneyland Resort. It can accommodate 1,800 riders per hour on Jeeplike vehicles, each weighing 12,800 pounds, that trundle through archaeological scenes.

Indiana Jones initially had problems, with more than 300 visitors reporting injuries from the ride in a three-year period, according to a 2001 lawsuit. Injuries and medical problems have dwindled in recent years, with 12 incidents investigated by the state from 2009 through 2011.

The recent renovations were unrelated to any such problems or state orders, according to the state.

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't been there to see them in person, but am I the only one who finds the holiday decorations at DCA a bit underwhelming? Considering all the hype they've given in in promotions, it seems like it is a bit of a let down from what I've seen online and on television. Any insight from someone who has been there this holiday season?

^ I think they did a good balance of decorating without overdoing it, especially since the DCA decorations are in lands that are brand new and many guests haven't seen in their normal form. They aren't knock-your-socks-off or anything, but they blend well and there's room to add more in upcoming years when the lands aren't so new.

I also think they are sufficient on Buena Vista St, however some of the decorations in Cars Land just don't do it for me....particularly the tire Christmas Tree. The snow-car-man just reminded me of shoveling snow off of my car when I lived in the mountains. I get the concept I just don't think it looks very good. On a positive note, I have always enjoyed the over-sized holiday lights in Bugs Land.

A friend of mine rode last night, and this is what he had to say:

"Rode Indiana Jones 3 times, and went through all the doors. It's looking great! I'm not going to give away too much, but the major changes happened in Tunnel of Torment, and the fight scene/ air-dart rooms. Other than that, there's green and brown jeeps, new lighting, new show scenes, added effects, and improved movement of the jeeps. My favorite ride is that much better. When you get the chance, check it out. It's very much worth it!"-Austen

I am excited to see what they have done to freshen up the ride!

Hmmm...the posts on MiceChat say otherwise. Over there they are saying that while Indy is back to where it should be, there were no major new effects added. It was basically a big spruce-up. I hope there's a bit more to it than just that.

Yeah, everything I've heard is that it's just a really well needed rehab that brings back some of the effects that weren't working, or weren't working well back to where they used to be. I was told there were "minor" tweaks and stuff made to lighting and colour schemes, and die-hard Disney fans might pick up on it, but nothing that wouldn't be that noticeable to the casual rider.

Chris - are you sure your friend isn't just mistaking "new" stuff for stuff they haven't seen in a while and just forgot about?
