Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - Pixar Place Hotel transformation will be completed on January 30th, 2024!

I agree, they are really putting a lot of "Disney" into this park, however; the themes work without the character tie-ins. So you really have an issue with all the Characters and Franchises that are being used and not the actual re-theme to the park. Its a lot, I agree. and I hope that when the dust settels its not overbearing, but I like the direction they are going and I think it will look amazing when its done.

^Great trip report, I just spent the last two days with my cousin at the Disney/DCA resort. (Thursday/Fri) (We had a great time!)

There were construction walls all over the place, and not just at DCA but Disneyland as well. Disneyland had constructions walls all the way up main street,(over the rail tracks) as well as all around the Castle! They were everywhere!!! Anyhow, it is the off season, (Though the park was still packed!) Everyone still seemed to work there way around the walls, and have a great time.

Hopefully all the improvements will show up in the (((near))) future. So the walls will come down!

Just saw this posted on Mouseplanet Sorry if it has already been posted:

With both Splash Mountain and the Hungry Bear Restaurant closed for refurbishment, Disneyland has decided to close the rest of Critter Country starting Wednesday, January 26. The closure will allow refurbishments that were originally scheduled to take place later this year to happen now, while the area's big "E Ticket" attraction is closed. A construction wall will be erected just beyond the Haunted Mansion after Disneyland closes Tuesday night.

The closure will include The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes attractions, along with the Pooh Corner and Briar Patch shops; the Pooh and Friends meet-and-greet area; and all outdoor vending locations.

Critter Country will reopen in March, (probably on March 8 along with the Hungry Bear restaurant), but Splash Mountain will remain closed through May 26.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, they close an entire land at Disneyland. I know the e-ticket is closed for re-furb anyway, and it is the slow season, but it does seem a little much especially with whats going on at DCA.

Wow, I'm surprised by that move. Having a whole land down and essentially closed off to the public is unheard of. Oh well, the only thing that really makes that area is Splash. I personally could care less about Pooh, canoes, and the vending locations...

I don't see why people are surprised... Would you be riding Pooh or the Canoes? How about shopping at the Pooh store back there? Or the Candy shop? Most peoples answer will be no, they wont be. Why not close the whole area, refurbs everything in it all at once to get it all done during the slow season and not anger the heavy season crowds. I'm totally for them closing the land to do all the refurbs that need to be done instead of closing things one by one.

Disney has released some attraction posters for DCA finally! Take a look:

Disney Parks Blog

New Attraction Posters Paint a Fresh Vision of Paradise Pier

posted on January 25th, 2011 by Michele Himmelberg, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort

When the Blue Sky Cellar reopens on Jan. 28, don’t miss the walls.

Yes, I said the walls of Blue Sky Cellar.

This building in Disney California Adventure park previews the “blue sky” ideas of Imagineers, with models and sketches that reflect the evolving landscape of the theme park. But before you peek at all the Imagineers’ handiwork, take a moment to enjoy the new artwork on the walls of the entryway. (And find out how you can purchase your own copy very soon.)

New Attraction Posters for DCA

Nestled among the expansion updates, you will find new attraction posters from the boardwalk of Paradise Pier, including California Screamin’, Silly Symphony Swings and Mickey’s Fun Wheel. These posters will also be available for purchase. Watch for release dates and retail locations at http://www.ArtofDisneyParks.com.

The posters are part of a rich tradition within Disney Parks worldwide – a tradition that dates back to 1956 and the original park, Disneyland.

In the summer of 1956, Disneyland was about to enter its second summer. Most people had little knowledge of what Disneyland really was, and they knew even less about the attractions inside the park. According to an upcoming book, “The Poster Art of Disney Parks” by Walt Disney Imagineering’s Danny Handke and Vanessa Hunt, the posters were a fast, clear and visually attractive way to convey an image of each attraction.

Over the years, the style of the various attraction posters has come to reflect the time period in which they were created, as well as the tone and visual palette of the attractions and themed land where they were located.

This tonal tradition is carried on in the latest series of posters featuring the Paradise Pier attractions. With a nod to the classic travel poster aesthetic, the new attraction sequence graphically conveys the excitement and character of each Paradise Pier attraction.

This newly released artwork is the first of several scheduled attraction art releases. Additional series releases are scheduled within months of the initial Paradise Pier series. The first California Adventure attraction posters will be available at retail locations throughout the park on Jan. 28.

Are you familiar with the Disney Parks attraction posters? Let us know if you have a favorite among the hundreds that have been created over the years.

I agree, black and red for screamin would look way to weird and out of place, expecially with all the supports. Now if they were to paint just the track that would mabey look pretty cool. Though I prefer them to keep the sky blue for the tunnels and lauch track, which they would because they just did it.

Screamin' is meant to look like a wooden coaster, therefore, it will stay white, which is a good thing. It's Intamin, don't screw with it..any more than they already have -cough-trimskilledairtime-cough-.

Anyone else find it kind of funny they left the Maliboomer turn from the poster when the rest of the ride was there?

I honestly think this expansion isn't the best way to go with the park but hey, it's too late to stop it now so I'm not going to whine with what we get.

This whole expansion just doesn't fit "California", that's the main thing that bugs me...could this be forshadowing of a name chage for Disney's Construction Adventure?

Well I visited Disneyland/DCA today and I have to say this is the off season of 'Construction Walls'. Both parks have them all over the place! DCA is expected, but Disneyland has them all over Main Street. But that's fine by me, because this is when they do all of the repairs/upgrades around the parks.

To help make up for the 'Construction Walls', we are rewarded with minimal waits for most attractions, Big Thunder was a walk on, Space Mountain was maybe 10 min. CA Screamin' was around 5 minutes or less! So it's all good, even if your photos of the parks may not be perfect.

I look forward to the month of May, when Star Tours II/Little Mermaid make their appearances.

^Thank you.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the construction walls. It's the OFF SEASON so like you said, this is the time to do all of these projects. Doesn't seems feasible to have Main Street being repaved in the middle of July while 60K+ worth of guests are in the park daily.

I have three updates for you today!

First ill start with the regular DCA update:

The New promotion began last night, thats will be in a later update.

This is done...

1169639447_N4dh6-X3.jpg.30789abf5bdc639d1fb0e12ad169d3fd.jpg

"Hello there, Im a tree. Arent I fancy? Ima fancy tree who is blocking your view of the building" This looks to be getting some covering soon to make the giant arch.

1169635320_urF7U-X3.jpg.252c0d85e44f683c09b1f47e843976fb.jpg

Pre-Fab roofs for the two towers. Too bad this isnt about Lord of the Rings eh?

1169641789_AgqwY-X3.jpg.7dd9b6e140b5523da41a1afd824b9208.jpg

Goofy is almost done being painted. White track, blue supports, thing more or less.

1169642360_UJEbT-X3.jpg.b223bf1cf7f03a7413538cf7be9710c0.jpg

OMG! TREES! Theres so many trees! Other then the trees, theres no real change to the area. (Only 5 words in this caption don't have the letter E in it. FASCINATING!)

1169648099_cWnSy-X3.jpg.5d3b0a7d2395a2f393a84f4303099e7f.jpg

What the hell?! MORE TREES! This is getting out of hand. This is the new "Park" on the old Maliboomer pad and it looks like they are cutting the concrete to plant the trees.

1169643419_2pmm5-X3.jpg.95a3c8f0ee301830f1a38805c23db29d.jpg

Really not too much of a visible change here either. Just more dirt.

1169653086_r4QJ6-X3.jpg.c534826041d7ec23984c68ee88894f7d.jpg

Heres a close up though, just in case. Can you see Willies Butt? Apparently its there...can you see the butt? I see the butt.

1169644451_Dr32f-X3.jpg.59f95be18fbdd4c5d386436b528913d5.jpg

There is a lot more chips installed on the framework. (Chips are what Disney calls the individual square pieces of re-bar and mesh that make up the rock work.)

All photos from Mintcrocodile

Thats it for the general DCA update! On to Update TWO!
