Have they already done this in Florida. I am not 100% sure, but it seems like the boats changed to some "Play-Skol" looking mold injected versions within the last year or so.

Probably since those boats are new (Pirates at WDW got the same type of boats as well). I liked the old design better, the new boats seem "junkier" (not sure how to put it but not as nice looking as the old ones).

I still think 10 months is a LONG time to replace a simple flume.

 

While they're at it, they're supposed to empty out the showbuilding and refurbish everything. Remember...Disneyland takes care of their rides.

We have a "wiener"! From what I've read on other sites, the ride is going have a massive refurb, where they're basically tearing out the entire inside & re-doing the entire ride- outside as well (flumes, annoying children, sets etc.) with a few changes at the beginning and end of the ride as well. And, the new version won't "premiere" until AFTER the next holiday overlay in late 2008, so it really won't re-open until 2009.

 

Can't say that I ever enjoyed the ride (tortured through it annually since 1970), but I did/do love the set design & artwork.

This is their opportunity to turn it into a shooting dark ride, charge $5 extra to ride, and make about a billion dollars a week. Make it so!

I believe when they did the super referb at the Magic Kingdom it was closed for around a year.

We went to DisneyLand last year and we were going on IASW. It was 4 females, my sister, my cousin, my friend and I. Now 3 of us have a little weight to us but we are not obese or so fat that we can't walk around theme parks all day. We know we could stand to lose a few pounds but who are we kidding we love to eat and we know it so it will never happen. Anyway we were all going to sit in the front of the boat when the ride operator said that we all had to sit by ourselves. And I said why and she said that so the weight was distributed evenly and the boat would float. Well I took one look at her and said "Are you saying that we are fat?" She was said "Well...." Then I said "Well if we are fat then you must be the queen of colussus because there isn't anything small about you. You are bigger than all 4 of us put together."I then proceeded to get out of the boat and go after her (that is when the amazon woman in me started to come out) but sister grabbed me by the shirt and hollered at me to act like a civilized person and told me to sit back down, which I did. And she was! She looked as though she would stand at her operating post and eat turkey legs and mickey icecream bars all day long. Now I normally don't talk about people but to sit there and call me fat when you are fatter than I am, well let's just say I won't stand for it. She had no right to do that when she was a fattie herself. Funny but true story.

^ So a ride operator, who happened to be overweight, asks you to sit in a certain configuration because she's most likely told to by her supervisors and leads, you ask her a pointed, loaded question to which she she says "Well..." and then you verbally and almost physically attack her?

^^Sorry, but there's nothing funny about that. It sucks that some people enjoy making cast members (and other amusement park employees) miserable. Also, if you thought the 4 of you could sit in the front row leaving the other 4 rows empty, well, that doesn't make any sense at all. And this cast member weighed 800 pounds? I highly doubt that.

^^^ Yeah - I agree with these guys. If it is true (which, from the way the story is put together, I don't really believe it is), you were being a complete douche.

^^^^ Maybe the cast member should have been a little more diplomatic. What the cast member could have done is put two in the front and two in the back. That would have balanced the boat just like one in each row or all four in the center row.

I've personally been in "that boat", where the weight distribution causes the boat to get stuck around various turns. We literally stopped at a few points and was only able to move because the boat behind us bumped us. And let me tell you--it didn't take a "fat person" to do it.

 

It's primarily about weight distribution, as the poor CM said. Not the weight itself. We unfortunately had the weight all distributed on one side of the boat and sure enough--got stuck. When we got back, the station was empty and the CMs were waiting for us.

 

 

 

 

Please follow the policies of the ride operators, guys. If they say something like this CM did, it is not to be taken personally. She was just doing what she thought was best for the ride and the safety and comfort of the riders. Ride operation is all about these kinds of impersonal judgements.

Wow. Man the good old days of putting up with guests.

 

Ride op gives you a direction you say, ok.

 

You know how many times I had to question large women to see if they where pregnant. It sucks but how else are you supposed to approach it? Different issue but same concept.

 

Stupidity will get you cuffed. I remember a guest that once was verbally threatening a fellow ride op, so I jumped in to help out and try to defuse the sit. The dude was such a dick so I let him load, locked restraints and held the coaster in station and waited for the cops to escort him away.

 

So be nice to your ride op’s they have much more to deal with then you. If anyone has a problem with a situation you should take it to operations, and not out on the person who is enforcing policy and would get in trouble if they did not. Also picking a fight with a park employee is not the brightest thing in the world. (Also once you touch them they can kick your a$$, for the record.)

 

I also do not buy the cm said the things in that exact manor unless they had limited english and meant well. She should have just said the ride cannot accommodate that sitting pattern due to safety reasons. Granted you would of prob. still pushed the issue anyways.

Acting like towards a cast member sounds like a good way to get yourself kicked out of the park, and could even in some situations be viewed as assault. The ride operators are only doing what they think is best (in most situations) it's not right to verbally attack them like that.

Well BeemerBoy and exit english the two of you weren't there when it happened and it happened to me so YES IT IS A TRUE STORY. Like I said she was overweight herself, my sister quickly corrected and put me in my place(she slapped me in the back of my head) for acting like a mad woman for trying to go after her for no reason whatsoever. I'm sure you have all experienced something like that in your lives where a certain situation warrants a negative reaction from your unconscious mind and you act upon it and you know you all have. It happens to all of us at some point in our lives, so get over it boys and get on with your lives! I know I have. Sheesh, the way this forum is going you would think everyone on this website was perfect.

As far as the ride goes, it's good to hear that Disney is willing to spend the money to keep their rides in top condition.

Having just come off a 15-year diet from 485 pounds to 220, I'm not even entering the fat thing. I have serious opinions about that, and..just no. Bravo on the refubishing of "It's a Hell Hole, After All", though. Having been stuck in that thing twice, I cant personally stand the ride or the damn song, but I think it's time for a long-overdue overhaul of the ride's set and lighting design. It was breathtaking 30 years ago, and with Disney's advancements in animatronics, advanced lighting grid applications and high-cal proscenium configs, the ride could be a marvel.
