Schrecken Posted July 3, 2013 Share Posted July 3, 2013 I don't know if I can isolate just one, but I have ridden a few that I would never set foot upon again (actually quite a few of those would leave me no option to do that anyway, since they are long gone). Probably the worst of them all was Son of Beast - I had a raging, pounding headache and my neck hurt for almost an hour after I took my one and only ride on it. Then there was Drachen Fire (yes, I realize that there is still a lot of love for this coaster, but I'm willing to bet almost all of it is coming from people who are several inches taller than I am at 5'3") - I'll never forget the day when I went to BGE with my friend and every coaster there had an hour long line save for DF, and for the life of me I couldn't understand why it was a walk-on. The fact that it was a walk-on made me a bit suspicious but we rode anyway. Well, my neck got wrenched almost as bad as it did on SOB (it wasn't the head-banging as is normally the case on Arrow loopers; besides I can avoid a lot of that if I work at it on ones like Viper at SFMM) and it hurt for a good period of time after I got off. It was whiplash like that you would get in a car accident, on both DF and SOB. In fact, I did get into a car-totalling accident a few years ago where my car t-boned a much larger vehicle that ran a stop sign, and I was going about 25 mph at the time. It was bad enough that it turned the front of my car into an accordion and an off-duty paramedic came running to help me. And yet that still didn't hurt as bad as SOB and DF (actually all three events left me with a sore neck and a bad headache, but thankfully no permanent damage). Then there are just bad coasters that didn't leave me in pain for a while afterward but were painful during the ride and I wouldn't ride them anymore (for those that still exist): Wildcat at HP Shockwave at KD Hurler at KD (didn't even bother to get the credit at Carowinds!) Grizzly at CGA (rode it back when it was PGA) Windjammer at KBF Hoosier Hurricane at IB Psychlone at SFMM Maverick at CP (at least in the front of the train, where I got my ears boxed in pretty bad, I would only ride the back and only if I was with someone who really wanted me to ride it with them) Arrow loopers and SLCs are head-banger's ball territory, but if I was with someone who wanted to ride I could tough it out and defend myself from the head-banging. AusCoasterFan Posted July 4, 2013 Share Posted July 4, 2013 ^^^ I honestly don't see the Roller Coaster at NYNY Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as THAT BAD. It's not great, but I didn't find it to be that rough. It is certainly better with the Premier Rides' trains over the TOGO ones. Angry_Gumball Posted July 4, 2013 Share Posted July 4, 2013 I have 2 on my list...in 2 different categories. The two categories are dull and painful/brutal. In the dull category would have to be CGA's Grizzly (which the slow dispatch times add the the already slow/dull factor). In the brutal category would have to be SFMM's Revolution...which left me with a throbbing headache when I got off...I seriously felt like I had just gotten in a fight with somebody and took all the hits. Magnus Colossus at Terra Mitica is just way to rough, the layout is also boring. Big One at Blackpool I found to be rough and it felt very slow over the hills. I had bigger expectations for this one.. Then I have to mention Tulireki at Linnanmäki, the Mack e-motion coaster. Does anyone have the slightest idea what this is good for? For me, the worst experience I've ever had on a coaster was Son of Beast. Since that's gone, the current one for me is Roller Coaster at NYNY. Just awful. I would think that the list would center around a few particularly painful coasters, but it seems that worst coaster is just as personal and subjective as choosing the best. I always assumed I disliked Arrow loopers more than the average enthusiast. I have an extremely long torso, which makes the crap Arrow restraints either stick out comically far or compress my spine beyond what should be physically possible (often starts with the former, ends with the latter). Based on this thread, it may in fact be the exact opposite. Since many other over-the-shoulder restraints cause me pain (Intamin's current hard restraints are currently the worst offenders; they leave nasty marks after the ride), I may be more tolerant of Arrow's often painful rides than many. My choice for worst coaster would have to be Shockwave at KD. That stands out as notably awful. I'm also going to have to give an honorable mention to Katun at Mirabilandia, for being the most disappointing. Sure it isn't in as good of condition as it used to be in the late 90s, but if you're in a defensive riding position, I think it's actually one of the more enjoyable CCIs out there. The only gripes I have with it are the poor station upkeep and the pace-wrecking MCBR. Least favorite woodie of mine has to go to Mean Streak. Your comment about Arrow restraints is true for me as well, and I'm not even particularly tall. They come down at an extremely awkward angle. I'm about as skinny as they come though, so maybe if you have extra "padding" for the restraints to rest against they don't lean quite so hard on your shoulders. But I don't have a problem with the OTS restraints on rides like Maverick, since they always bang against my neck, which is significantly softer than my skull. I've been on lots of painful coasters so it's hard to state which would be my *least* favorite. I guess Mantis would have to get my vote as far as sheer physical unpleasantness. Head banging+crotch pressure+shin cramps = three separate points of assault. But if I could pick my least favorite ride in general, well that would be easy. Did anyone else go on that ride at SFA where you ride in these high-walled tubs, so high that you couldn't see out the top, down a trough where you do nothing but spin and spin and spin? Walking around in that concrete desert, you see this ride hoping that a few splashes of cool, refreshing water might come your way, but no... all you do is watch your feet soak in the smelly stagnant water at the bottom of the tub while you do nothing but spin and spin and spin. It was amazing. EDIT: Found a video of it. Turns out my memory was making it out to be slightly worse than it was, and by that I mean at least you could see out of the raft: Still don't get wet at all on it. It's a lot less fun than it looks. I think Anaconda at KD Great American Scream Machine sucked but at least it was big and fast and did stuff so there was something to balance the crap but Anaconda is rough AND slow/boring. Another contender is Villian, at Geauga Lake. The only woodie I've ridden personally that was too rough, I just hated it and thought I was gunna die.
