Movies, Movies, Movies.....

I thought this was a "last movie you watched" thread so I'm going to pretend it is.

Theater: Star Wars. I don't know how to geek out on it but it was excellent; highly recommended for anyone out there who might need outside help in deciding whether to watch it.

Home: Almost Famous. I could never live that life but I wish I could jump into the movie and stay there forever.

My favourite movie of this past year, also got a pin made for it (no surprise),

but I bought the French version of it at Disneyland Paris. However, that is all that

remains of the French-worded publicity for the movie. Everything at the Resort is

in English, now.

But the pin survived. Happy New Year Everybody!

Vice-Versa? Oh well, the French loved it, too.

The English version rules now, at WDS. (taken Sept.21, 2015)

Just watched Tomorrowland and Vacation.

Didn't really care for either one. Tomorrowland was just boring, although the retro 1964 World's Fair footage was cool.

Vacation pissed me off since they did stupid logistical stuff.

If a family is driving from Chicago to Wally World (which I assume is in LA), why would they take route B instead of route A (See pictures below). Also, he said at the top of the film that it would take 2 days to get there. Yet they spent more than a few nights along the way.

And finally, the BIG coaster they all want to ride is called Velociraptor. He even says it's over 400 feet tall and 100+ mph. Yet, the coaster turns out to be Ninja at SFOG, far from the tallest and fastest. I assume the average film goer will not care, but this pissed me off! They could have at least filmed TTD or Kingda Ka!

The most direct route from Chicago to Wally World

The route they actually took. Idiots!

I'm in the minority here as I never cared for the original National Lampoon's Vacation and had no interest in the new version; I think Christmas Vacation is the best of this series.

Tomorrowland starts out well, but goes off the rails.

Last movie watched: "Saving Mr. Banks," which I found engrossing, amusing and enjoyable. P.L. Travers was a f--king riot, and awkwardly relatable. The storyline was inspiring; as much as I hate to admit it, I've come around to finding the story of Walt Disney inspiring in general, even though it wasn't all sunshine and pixie dust. I know the plot was modified and embellished and many scenes were a little obvious and convenient; it certainly leaves out a lot of controversy, but I'd rather just see it as a movie standing on its own than obsess over the less-pretty reality of the true story.

The last movie I saw in the theater was Point Break on Christmas with my family. It was a fun popcorn flick that you turn your brain off for, but if you're looking for a thought-provoking thriller I suggest you look elsewhere.

The one I saw in the theater before that was The Peanuts Movie. I'm a HUGE Peanuts fan, and I was very pleasantly surprised by it. Its modern and was adapted to reach today's younger audience, but at the same time they stayed faithful to the Peanuts series and didn't sell-out or make a crapload of pop-culture references like a lot of modern adaptations are. if Sparky (Charles Schulz) were alive today, I'll bet he'd be very proud of the finished product!

I also saw Animal House on TV with my family on Christmas Eve. Its one of my parent's favorites, and I think its seriously one of the funniest movies of all time.

I caught The Hateful 8 last night, and it's an "old dark house" movie set in the Old West--sort of Reservoir Dogs meets Stagecoach with a spaghetti western sensibility. If you like spaghetti westerns and Tarantino flicks, you'll probably like Hateful 8. If not, you won't.

Going with Piano John for Vacation. I loved how out of all the coasters at SFOG, They picked Ninja? Wile E. Coyote would have been better.

Also, I had to laugh at how horribly photoshopped all those extra rides were. Delirium from Kings Island, I think the Hulk was in there, And I think I saw Dragon Khan too?

The car made me laugh and that was about it. It was too R-rated IMO. They should have made it PG-13 or PG

^ With Walley World you can do no wrong with whatever coasters you 'borrow' from other parks.

And a new Hallmark ornament this past Holiday Season! But I don't think the

Chevy Chase character is that 'recognizable' as John Candy is, here. No matter,

it's got sound too! And bought at 75% OFF!

Saw two movies in the last week:

The Hateful Eight - Was apprehensive about this, as Django Unchained is easily in my top ten worst movies of all time. But I liked this. It's kind of predictable, but it did hold my attention, despite being over three hours long. Was glad I made the effort to get to a 70mm showing.

Spring - It starts out like a drama/love story. And then odd things start to happen...seriously, this movie works best if you know nothing about it. Don't even read the description on Amazon Prime. Just watch it. Best movie I've seen in a year. Or more. Scary, creepy, occasionally funny, and totally original. If more movies were even half this good, I'd go to the theater a lot more.

I caught The Revenant today, and while I think it's a very well made movie, it's more an endurance test than "entertainment."
I also think the Academy would give it best Picture, Director, and Supporting Actor and skip right over Leo.

I think he literally chooses his roles depending on Oscar chances these days. Speaking of supporting actor though after watching Creed I'd actually like to See Stallone get recognized for his portrayal of Rocky, really liked his portrayal in this one more than most of the others... although that may have been to do with him not writing this one.
