Lola Rennt(Run Lola Run)

A German movie that follows the main character, Lola, around as she tries to come up with enough money to prevent her boyfriend from being killed. The film consists of three of her attempts, with each having a different outcome. The civilians she encounters along the way have their futures shown in a photo form, with their futures changing each story based on what Lola does when they encounter one another. A fun movie to watch, and my only real complaint about it is that it is really short at 76 minutes.

Definitively another great german comedy: "Knockin´ on heaven´s door"

(with Til Schweiger and Jan Josef Liefers)

Two terminal patients leave their hospital beds for the open highway in this German road movie, a popular success in Germany. When cancer victim Rudi (Jan Josef Liefers) meets Martin (Til Schweiger), who has a brain tumor, they knock back tequila one night and decide to head north to experience life at the seashore, something Rudi has hoped to do his entire life. However, the car they've stolen belongs to two thieves and contains a million marks. Soon they're being pursued by both thugs and cops.

We rented 2012 last weekend. It was the same gimmick over and over: First they're outrunning destruction in a limo, then in a small plane, then in an RV, then in a big plane, then in an ark. Some of the special effects weren't even that good. No repeat viewing for us, thanks.

"Date Night". I'm not a big Steve Carell fan, and Tina Fey is not well known on this side of the world, so wasn't sure what to expect on "our" date night. Perhaps being a working married couple with 3 kids meant we could relate to it, but I thought it was a really fun movie. Mark Wahlberg is deadpan hilarious, and I nearly cacked myself at the pole dancing screen near the end . 4/5

How To Train Your Dragon

Wow. I'm going to be completely honest, here: this definitely ranked in my Top 5 animated movies ever. It's right up there with several Disney/Pixar movies, that's how good it was! I didn't really expect anything great going into the movie, what with it being a family film and all, but by the first ten minutes, my mind had been changed for me! Great voice acting, surprisingly good action sequences, the 3D animation and effects were very well done, and Toothless is SO DARN ADORABLE! My only complaint, which is more about the theater than the movie itself, is that I was forced to see it in 3-D because that's the only version my local theater was offering. I would very much like to see it in regular ol' 2-D, but whatever. At least I still saw it. Highly recommended! 10/10

Donnie Darko

It's kind of old, but I just saw it about two months ago at a friend's house. Needless to say, I'm going to have to see it again if I want to understand the entire thing better. Super-complicated yet extremely intelligent plotline, and strong acting. Creepy in some instances, hilarious in others. The continuous shot of Donnie's school is incredible, I still can't comprehend how they got all the way through without screwing up. That must have taken some serious patience. Overall, great movie, but a bit too complex for my taste. 8/10

^^Donnie Darko is an amazing movie. If you are looking to watch it again to gain a better understanding of it, try viewing the director's cut. It's a heck of a lot less complicated as it uses pages from Grandma Death's book to basically spoon feed you what's going on. Now I want to go watch that movie again...

Just finished watching the movie Moon from last year. Very interesting movie, extremely well done especially for such a low budget film. I enjoyed every minute of it and they really nailed all of the various emotions that went along with every part of the movie. An interesting sci-fi movie for sure. 8/10.

After sitting on it for two weeks, I finally got around to watching Surrogates last night. It was a nice little surprise. It pretty much took a unique plot device from Strange Days, expanded it and turned it into a whole movie. I was pleased because the "surrogate" was the hook that drew me into Strange Days in the first place. Bruce Willis did a repectable job, though his surrogate appearance was a bit too similar to his look in The Sixth Sense for my taste. However, in addition to suspending reality (obviously), you're gonna need to overlook the details of the ending to be satisfied. It was a good ending, (one that I would have picked personally), but if you allow yourself to consider the "true" reprucussions of what happens it spoils it slightly.

With a run time right at an hour and a half, Surrogates is a neat and tidy sci-fi mystery with a unique concept. 3.5/5 stars in my book.

Next on deck: Sherlock Holmes.

Clash of the Titans, also known as PG Rated Gay Porn.

Well that was one homoerotic little movie!

Ya think? They actually took almost all of the women's roles out of the movie. The "eye-candy" on screen was much more entertaining than the re-worked plot.

I sort of watched Ponyo last night while doing math homework and talking to people on Xbox Live.

It seemed like a really great movie. Stellar animation, as expected from Miyazaki, as well as a good message and interesting characters. I'll have to watch it again and really pay attention to it, but so far I recommend it.

Got around to finally watching A Beautiful Mind today (it's been sitting next to my TV for a little over a month now) and WOW. What a stellar film. I was truly impressed by the overall quality of everything in the movie: the cinematography, the acting, and the script were all top notch and absolutely fantastic. Goes up with my favorite movies of all time, it definitely deserved the Best Picture win.

I recently went to a Hollywood Video that's closing in my town, and bought a bunch of horror movies for cheap to add to my collection.

One of them was "Haute Tension", a horror film made in France! It was actually one of the wildest, most imaginative and exciting horror movies I've seen in a long time. It's not for the faint of heart, though, as there's a lot of stuff in it that could offend non-horror aficionados out there. Best of all, there's no long-winded backstory to explain too much of why what happens, happens...it just freaking happens.

Definitely check it out, if you feel up to the experience.

Just saw the Nightmare on Elm Street remake/reboot/reimagining last night. Obviously not even close to the original, but I was expecting that. From the perspective of a horror fan, it was alright and it did a decent job of keeping some good elements and even some quotes ("Talk about a wet dream!") from the original films. Jackie Earle Haley also did a good job in my opinion and was very creepy. Overall, I give it a 6 out of 10 and I'd put it right in the middle of my list of my favorite Nightmare films.

Also, was it me or did the last two surviving kids look like Edward & Bella? Talk about pandering to every demographic.

Watched two very different movies on our plane ride last night. Carriers and Precious.

I had never even heard of Carriers which I thought was odd as it's totally my kind of movie (end of the world plague disaster movie) and had some solid B+ stars in it! I really liked it as cheesy and plot hole filled as it was. Really makes you think and hit hard on the emotional nerves.

Precious, well, what can you say, it's an amazing movie about a terrible, awful life and situation. It was somewhat uplifting in a way, but just very depressing at the same time.

Now that I finally saw Precious it is even stranger that they showed it on a plane than I ever realized. Precious is absolutely amazing though, I didnt actually cry, but my eyes got teary and I thought I was going to cry. I actually thought I would hate it, cause clearly 18 year old males are not the demographic this movie is aiming for, but I still "enjoyed" it. I say "enjoyed" because its really disturbing and really depressing, but Precious's inner voice is where all the brilliance is. I loved the parts where she dreams of being on TV, those were all done so well, and the transitions all made sense. I literally hated Moniques character throughout the movie. I highly recomend this movie, but be prepared, as I said it should not be shown on a plane because it is quite disturbing in termss of the abuse and psychological damage inflicted onto Precious.

10/10...An amazing film!

So I finally watched Avatar today and it was a decent movie. Story-wise the movie is OK and the acting was decent.

Special effects are a whole different ballgame though. I was pretty blown away by the level of detail put into the scenery and the planet in general.

Explosions and action sequences weren't too bad either.

But then again, even for that level of detail, the CGI effects still seemed a lot like CGI to me...
