It does move a lot, but luckily it didn't affect me. On a side note, the worst motion-sickness inducing movie of all time for me is Cloverfield. Sport movies can be pretty hit and miss for me, especially when they're based on real-life events, but I really enjoyed this. Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl were really well cast as John Hunt and Niki Lauda, and the "race" scenes were exceptionally well done. Plenty of action while keeping the feel of it grounded in the 70s, at times it felt more like a documentary than anything else. Definitely recommended, especially for anyone who's into motorsport. Genuinely great movie: great special effects, very realistic, extremely well acted and just that little bit different from other space movies. On the other hand, I watched Spinal Tap with my family a few days ago, and it was hilarious. Really stupid movie with no real plot, but it was lough out loud funny, especially the interviews with the band members. It was pure comedy gold. (Unless that actually happened in the movie? I don't know, I haven't seen it lol) I saw two movies for the first time recently: Gravity: Everything you hear about the effects in this movie is 100% true. The movie looks spectacular and gives a lot of depth to the vacuum of space. I like how the movie tried to be as scientifically accurate as possible, even resorting to sacrificing the wonderful sounds of explosions to try and put you into Sandra Bullock's space suit. The acting is great, the score is great, the camera-work is simply magnificent; the only thing preventing me from loving this movie is the fact that it's just a bit too straight-forward. I'm not saying it isn't complex, but it's also not the most provocative. I'm also not saying that these straight-forward movies are inferior to other substance-stuffed flicks, they're not, in fact Gravity is better than a lot of those movies; but it just wasn't the kind of movie I fall in love with. Regardless, I'm glad I saw it, and I'm glad that it turned out to be a huge success. Eight Legged Freaks: Yeah, kind of an odd movie to transition to, I know. I have been avoiding seeing this movie for quite some time because I have relatively minor arachnophobia. The sight of spiders, including realistic fake spiders or print, gives me a very unnerving feeling. I still have trouble not freaking out on Forbidden Journey. But I decided to give Eight Legged Freaks a watch because I do love comedic throw-backs to B-Movies. After watching it, the best way to describe this movie is.......it's a cartoon. It is a live action cartoon, and it knows damn well that it is. The sight of the spiders did not tinge me in the slightest, probably because of how CG they looked, and like I said, how cartoonish they were portrayed. I was surprised at how many laughs I got as the movie progressed to the point that I forgot it was also labelled as a horror movie. It's dumb, it's fun, but I was also surprised at how few scares there were. Unlike other comedic takes on B-Movies, Eight Legged Freaks lacked any good suspense; which is a shame, because there were many likable characters in the movie that could have benefited from just a few more serious moments. It only has a 5.2/10 on IMDb from 6,440 users. Just got home from Gravity. This movie was one of the most intense movies I have ever seen and had a ton of seats that had me on the edge of my seat. Not only intense, but this movie featured the slickest and most fascinating CGI I have ever seen. The visuals are incredible. The score worked extremely well with the film. After Gravity, I honestly felt like sitting down and comprehending what I just watched. Fascinating movie. 10/10 Gravity was a bit of an impulse viewing option, but it was definitely worth it. I have watched The Core, 2012, Volcano, and am currently on The Day After Tomorrow, and I can feel myself actually getting dumber with all this terrible geology. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, what do others feel about questionable science in movies, particularly disaster movies? Do you notice the bad science, and does it affect your enjoyment of the movie? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, science-y and non-science-y folks alike. Everytime I watch this movie I cannot stop and think now "Wow, that came from the guy that made Lord of the Rings?". While the make up and gore effects are fairly impressive, I felt as though I were watching "torture porn," which is all too typical of remakes of past horror franchises. The cruder physical effects of the original made it seem all the more surreal. My favorite scene is the one in the basement with Ash, the old movie projector, and the Victrola playing silly 1920s swing music. Funny and scary at the same time. I am just not into that comedy horror mix. The Texas Chainsaw with Jessica Biel was well done in my opinion as well as Halloween by Rob Zombie (the second one he did however was terrible), even though his was more a retelling. I LOVE all the gore. But that is me. Some of the remakes I could have did without though... Friday The 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, House Of Wax. All in all I love remakes - I love someone putting their take on a story. Does it always work no, sometimes though it does. Its all a gamble. I am still kinda young and I am already excited to see remakes of movies from my childhood already...
