rosscoe Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I'm hoping to see the Imitation Game this weekend, it looks great! Cant wait to see that film Dave looks interesting Saw Hunger Games last week, waste of time, really no reason for this to be two movies.
TPDave Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 ^ I'm glad I passed up the opportunity to se it this past weekend then! I heard everyone raving about the last one so gave it a watch, and it wasn't bad or anything but I just didn't get the hype.
rosscoe Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Same here, I never saw the first one ( Walked out about twenty minutes ) saw the second at the drive in and it was better than I thought it would be, but this was a waste
molemaster43 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I'm hoping to see the Imitation Game this weekend, it looks great! Yeah, this is one that strikes up a lot of interest. Hopefully seeing it next weekend. Hearing lots of Oscar buzz for Cumberbatch
TPDave Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 ^ I'm not surprised. After seeing him in Sherlock I can't imagine him not being good really.
azza29 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Saw Hunger Games last week, waste of time, really no reason for this to be two movies. Couldn't agree more. Two hours of movie filled with 45 minutes' worth of plot. Checked out Big Hero 6 a few weeks ago while I was in Orlando, great film. Went to invite some friends to see it with me here in Melbourne before realising it won't come out locally until after Christmas! And film studios wonder why piracy is so rampant...
Nrthwnd Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Big Hero 6 We loved it! I kept laughing and giggling, when Baymax was acting goofy. Great movie.
rcdude Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Went and saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1 today. It was pretty good, though not as good as Catching Fire. The film is very different from the previous installments as it is more of a political thriller than an action movie and it did drag a bit, but I still found it engaging. As I haven't read the book, I can't say whether the part 1/part 2 split is justified or not, but I have yet to find a single example where it's fully justified (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came really close, but upon rewatching I definitely saw some extraneous material). 8/10 I also went to see Big Hero 6 a couple weeks ago. It was good, but not great. Perhaps it's because I see all the superhero movies, but while the characters were great the story just felt like a bunch of recycled plot elements from the other Marvel films. It's a good family movie and it's still quite entertaining, but if I'm in the mood for a Disney movie I'd be more likely to pick Frozen. 7/10
robbalvey Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) I also went to see Big Hero 6 a couple weeks ago. It was good, but not great. Perhaps it's because I see all the superhero movies This is interesting, because I've heard this from other people who are into all the Marvel, etc, movies. I, on the other hand, haven't seen a "Super Hero" movie since the original Spider-Man with Toby McGuire many many years ago. So I totally appreciated that Big Hero 6 was "super hero light." It was like the perfect mix of Disney & Marvel. Curious to know if people who are into the Super-Hero films feel the same way, and the reason why this movie is resonating so well with people is that some of the super hero films might be a bit too mature for younger kids so this is a great introduction? Thoughts? Edited December 2, 2014 by robbalvey
molemaster43 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 ^It might be this because a good number of superhero movies follow a very similar plot structure that we've seen so many times, and Big Hero 6 seems to follow that storyline fairly closely. Makes the movie predictable and diffuses some of the tension.

GCI Wooden Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I really enjoyed Big Hero 6, it exceeded my expectations, I wasn't expecting the culprit (I'm not going to give anything away) and it was just a funny movie (I love Baymax with low battery ) I'm not really into marvel or superheroes, but that movie was amazing.
robbalvey Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Attended a press screening of Into The Woods tonight. GREAT movie! Fans of musicals are gonna LOVE it! Can't say any more until the movie is released! Full report soon!

Can't say any more until the movie is released! Full report soon! So they actually did keep it a musical? (it's one of my favorites). the LACK of singing in the trailers had me scared. . I'm hoping they simply used EVERY non singing moment for the trailers.

I'm hoping they simply used EVERY non singing moment for the trailers. That is pretty much EXACTLY what they did! I felt the same as you "What is this non-musical version of Into the Woods???" But pretty much Act I is almost line by line lifted from the original show. They modify a few things for Act II to make it work as a movie but I'd say 90% of Act II is totally untouched. I'm not sure why Disney is so scared of saying it's a musical, because it REALLY IS almost non-stop singing beginning to end.
rosscoe Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Exodus : Gods and Kings Opened across Australia yesterday, based upon the biblical story ( Fairy tale ) of Moses, it was a rather dull, drawn out piece of nothing. Sigourney Weaver is wasted in the film with maybe less than five minutes of screen time, Jebus turns out to be a ten year old boy who is fascinated with a man double his age, if you have seen the trailer, you have seen nearly all the best set pieces in the film. 3 out of ten. Now of course the above is only my opinion on the story, the bible and the like, so if you are offended that I think the bible is a Fairy Tale, this is not the place to have religious debate

This makes me very happy, and I'm already humming along "Into the woods, It's time to go, I hate to leave, I have to, though." This and "Rent" are my two favorite shows (followed CLOSELY by "Hedwig and the Angry Inch")
cfc Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 My two favorite shows are "Into the Woods" and "Sweeney Todd" (original stage version is much better than the movie). I caught "Interstellar" over Thanksgiving weekend and liked it a lot. It's nice to see a science-fiction movie that's more like "2001" and less like "Transformers" or "Terminator" for a change.
gerstlaueringvar Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Watched Mockingjay Part 1 just now, I think it's good enough to justify the book. Can't wait to watch Part 2 next year!
rcjp Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 ^It sucks that we have to wait a whole year. I haven't read the books but I enjoyed watching it.
Woodie Warrior Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Big Hero 6 was pretty good. Had great pacing with no real dull moment and the villain's way of getting around was super cool. And Baymax was awesome, of course. The animation was possibly the best I've seen. Disney stepped outside of their box and really hit a home run, I think I still like Frozen a bit better, but the two are just so different it's hard to compare the two. Feast was great as well. Just as good as Paperman, which I loved. Also, I could definitely see a sequel to Big Hero 6. I'm guessing they're already discussing it over at the studios. Would be a better choice than Frozen 2. Like I said, I loved the first one, but a sequel is not needed.

I haven't read the books but I enjoyed watching it. the film was MUCH better than the book. remember, the book is from her point of view. .she spends an AWFUL lot of the 3rd book getting knocked out and waking up from comas/concussions!
Woodie Warrior Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Mockingjay (the book) was just plain boring. The movie held my attention the entire time, and it's probably my favorite in the series. A lot of people were bored by the politics/revolution themed plot, rather than the survival/war theme of the first two films, but I liked it.
alilstronger Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Mockingjay part one has been my favorite one so far.
rosscoe Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Nightcrawler: This was either brilliant or the worst film I have ever seen, not sure which. Jake Gyllenhaal was so unlikeable in this, in fact nearly ever person in the film had no moral compass what so ever. The story is based on people who videotape car accidents and sell them to TV news stations for profits and ratings. Gyllenhaal played a man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, he was vile. By the time it ended I needed a shower to wash the fifth away. In saying all of that I really do highly recommend the film, its either brilliant or awful and I am still undecided
