Joey was waring a USC shirt I notice. As a Michigan student I now officially hate Joey .

I used to think of Nagashima Spaland as one of the parks that was sorta 'in league' with Cedar Point. But I used to think that of Six Flags Magic Mountain and Blackpool Pleasure Beach as well; which, in retrospect is clearly all wrong.

But anyway, it looks like a cool park, probably one that I'll never visit as Japan doesn't look to have the individual "OMG- World Class" coasters like this country (the USA) or Europe do. While Europe doesn't seem to have as many rides at least half of them aren't "Jet Coasters" and are instead old Schwarzys, which I love.

I don't think anybody went in the water park the day we were there.

We were too busy running around Nagashima, getting our credits, trying out all the unique and WTF rides, eating, drinking, trying not to sweat too much, lol.

It was a busy day for us in that one spot, and although the water park looked very interesting from a distance...

Well, I didn't hear of anybody who went to it, from the tour.

PSA: If you're going to put my picture on a shirt, have the decency to find a good picture!

I will have to have a little chat with Reed and Stacy. I should flog them or at the very least, give them a Melvin.

To me, Spaland had a sort of Dorney Park vibe to it, mainly because of Steel Dragon and the presence of an old Schwartzkopf looper. If you like Steel Force (as I do), you'll like Steel Dragon.

Plus, it has an air-conditioned Ferris wheel!

I didn't understand the No Tattoo sign . Why is it there anyway ?

Because in some parks - not to mention other public places like swimming pools, waterparks, etc. - tattoos are NOT ALLOWED to be seen.

It has to do with Japanese gangs and related negative vibes with them.

That said, they posted it in a lot of places, including at our main hotel's swimming pool in Tokyo, and that the management had the right to escort the offender off of the premises and (effectively) ban them from ever using the facilities again!

And some the people here thought TPR banning could be very rough, heh heh.

I have two tattoos, one on each arm, below the shoulder. Already discussing this and knowing ahead of time what was ahead for me, I wore (and took) no tanktops AT ALL on the tour, and I always made sure my t-shirts covered up most of my tats, so as not to offend anyone, locally.

The only time my tats ever really came into question, was at the Tokyo hotel pool - I had already worn an oversize plain white t-shirt for this, but they didn't like me wearing a t-shirt of my own. So they lent me one of their available rubbery-type "pool shirts" to wear, instead. And a swim cap! For no extra charge (the pool use was 500 Yen for hotel guests, but it was a great deal, with a jacuzzi and sauna there, too).

Sometimes, the reasoning may be somewhat "un-reasonable" to us, but it's their country, so what do you do, hmm? The same thing kept happening to many of us from time to time, when it involved emptying our pockets before getting on particular coasters, like Thunder Dolphin at La Qua.

The ride ops couldn't accept the fact that a velcro-closed pocket would hold a wallet, etc. So I had to remove it as well as the other stuff I'd already stored in their (free, thankfully) lockers in the loading station.

You never know, huh?

Dammit!

You lucky bastards! *sigh*

But on a more serious note: I love the SD2k pics, esspecially those of the "Noodley Bits"(WTF!).

One question: on the photo with all you guys on the lifthill of SD2k you can see people waiting outside the queu area. Was that because the park hadn't already opened the queu area (because you guys had ERT), or was there just an enormous line?

^ Yes, we were getting ERT on SD2K while the GP were being 'held' at the entrance to the ride. Only three runs, I remember, were allowed for this, but...

It got very funny, as the first time we left the station after the park had opened to the GP, those at the front of the line began waving to us, and we waved back as we went up the lifthill.

On our second turn, that line had gotten longer, and the new peeps started waving to us, while the front of the line realized they weren't getting in just yet, lol. And we happily waved back, again.

The THIRD TIME we left the station, the queue was longer, nobody in the front two thirds of it even attempted to wave to us, and once again, it was the newbies at the back of the line who waved.

And we waved back.

Very funny to see this develop as we left the station each time, also knowing we were making some GP very unhappy each time, too.

That POV pic of White Cyclone makes it look like the mutant child of the American Eagle, Mr. Twister, and the Coney Island Cyclone! Me likey! How does it compare to those rides? I haven't heard many good things about it, but it's so visually impressive. At least it get's points in the photogenic department.

^^ Pretty much all of the wooden coasters we saw and rode in Japan were very impressive in size and layout spread, but...

Man, they needed to... oh, I dunno - re-track (or whatever, for a smooooother ride) a bit here and there on all/most of them?

Would certainly help, IMhO.

This ride ROCKED! For me it was the surprise ride of the trip. After riding White Canyon and Jupiter, I was not looking forward to this woody at all, but to my surprise it was the best coaster of the trip. It was a great ride, fast and it really reminded me of The American Eagle, and Colossus their opening years. It felt like a ride that was designed in the golden years of the wooden coaster. And the fact that it was painted white sealed the deal for me.

PS- the station was also very cool

One of the things i LOVED about White Cyclone (aside from happily bypassing the incredibly long queue area which never gets used ) was how the coaster always keeps its speed.

Other woodies in Japan started off very fast and slowed down over time, where as White Cyclone kept a consistent speed over the whole track as it slowly descended back to earth. A FANTASTIC design.

Im jealous of the extra runs on Steel Dragon ;D

I'm sure once upon a time people were prepared to wait in these queues for a ride.

I'm in the minority who didn't really like White Cyclone. It was like helix, airtime, helix, airtime. I think it was too much helix and not enough airtime.

Steel Dragon 2000 was pretty cool, though.

Hey nasai...good to see you here. You may not remember, but I rode Voyage with you at HWN and told you I was going on the Japan trip whereas you replied "You'll love it!". Well, you were right...I did!!! It was a most awesome country and trip I must say.

Shane is right...White Cyclone was hands down the best wood of the trip with the very front being my fav spot. There was some really good floater air there. The back was a little rough for my tastes, but still pretty good too.

Overall, I really liked Nagashima Spaland...so much so that I opted to miss going to get 3 extra credits at the zoo park just so I could stay and enjoy NS longer. So many fun things to do there! Playing the mushroom game with Steve, Rich, and Adam was a memory to cherish for-evs!

Hey man... yeah, I certainly remember that. Glad you had such a great time. It seems like Robb really runs a great show.

I love White Cyclone too. Granted, last time I rode it was summer of 2001, but it was pretty amazing, with some great headchoppers. I'm a big fan of the CP of Japan, honestly. I loved the Ultra Twister, and the water park was fab.

I'm looking forward to 2008, and my own trip back. It's been too long.

ZOMG I think SD2k and White Cyclone have the longest queu area that I ever saw!
