Garet
Apparently there'll be a Korean version of Newsies this April.

Woodie Warrior
I got to Newsies on tour this past Thursday and it was absolutely fantastic. The songs and the choreography were excellent, and the sets were the coolest I've ever seen. The script was surprisingly funny (and had a surprising amount of innuendos for a Disney show). There were some sound issues during the first act, but they didn't detract from the show too much. All the performers were all on their A-game. I'm seeing If/Then in March. It wasn't really a must-see for us, but the Fox was offering $35 tickets for it to those who saw Wicked. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Nrthwnd
omgomgomgomg Grease-LIVE on FOX was a-mazing to us! The opening number itself left me exhausted. And whoever planned it all out, is a Genius. There was a sound blackout for just over a minute in the Gym scene. But better the sound than the visual for me. The dancing was all crazy and awesome. ALL the leads and minor roles were perfection. I loved it, from mixing the real (the tv broadcast) with the fantasy (the production). THIS is The Best of The Live Musicals on TV for me. And there's word that HAIRSPRAY will be done. And I want to add (as old as it is) Bye Bye Birdie to the growing list. I mean, these shows that have TV shows within them, are golden! Bravo FOX! Guy T. Koepp
^I heard they're doing Rocky Horror next. Just got home from seeing Matilda at TPAC. Wow what a great show. I love the book, but was wondering how it would translate to the stage. I was so impressed. I would definitely put it up with some of my favorites. Nrthwnd
^ yes, Rocky Horror, how could I forget! And - with the original Frank N. Furter ~ Tim Curry ~ as The Narrator! Unfortunately, FOX announced this one was going to be pre-taped, not as LIVE as Grease was.
Hilltopper39
When is Rocky Horror live supposed to air? I've seen some random press about it but not a definitive date or cast or anything. I've always wondered why it never got re-made with all the remakes out there these days (I may or may not have fantasy booked the new cast a few times in my head) but a live version for tv will be pretty cool. Also, Hamilton tickets went on sale today for new shows the released after November 1st, I tried to score some tickets for a weekend we're planning a NYC trip but the few tickets available disappeared in about 30 seconds. I had a chance at some but they were a bit out of my price range ($550). Oh well there is always the ticket lottery, and after than I'm taking recommendations for a new show in November..... Nrthwnd
^ Not till late in the Fall. And here's the cast list, so far... Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter Victoria Justice as Janet Weiss Ryan McCartan as Brad Majors Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia Reeve Carney as Riff-Raff Staz Nair as Rocky Adam Lambert as Eddie Tim Curry as the Criminologist And remember, this isn't going to be a LIVE broadcast, like these recent ones. Pre-taped. Then broadcast. On 10 April 2015, it was announced that Kenny Ortega, best known for directing the film Hocus Pocus, the High School Musical trilogy, and Michael Jackson's This Is It concert series, would direct the remake. On 21 October 2015, Emmy Award nominee Laverne Cox, best known for her role as transgender prisoner Sophia Burset on Netflix's prison drama Orange Is the New Black, joined the cast to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the mad-scientist role originated by Tim Curry in the 1970s. Lou Adler, who produced the original film, is also co-producing the remake, along with Gail Berman and Kenny Ortega; Ortega will choreograph the film in addition to directing and producing. The creative team is planning "to stick faithfully to the text and the score of the original but greatly reimagine the story visually". As for "Hamilton".... well, we'll wait until a tour (eventually) comes through. Still one of my fave movie posters. Nrthwnd
P.S. Happy Groundhog Day! That said, a new musical production of the movie is about to start up, with opening dates in the West End of LONDON, UK! I cannot wait to hear how they figure out the 'recurring nightmare radio broadcast', lol. And a question: Is there an actual sort-of "total" of times, that Murray was supposed to be repeating Groundhog Day, itself? I know they didn't repeat every single...uh...repeat. But when you calculate everything he ended up doing for everybody in the city.... uh.... ? Just curious if anybody has a handle on this?

Yeah I don't really know who anyone in that cast except the guy from American Idol and the guy who played Spiderman on Broadway, and that may not be a bad thing. Also I kind of like the idea of it not being live but instead being recorded so that they can "re-imagine the story visually". As for Hamilton, yeah they did announce a tour for spring 2107 and are opening a long run in Chicago this September, so they're trying to get this thing out on the road as soon as possible while it's still hot so hopefully I can catch a tour date at some point in 2017. CedarFlags
I'm actually NOT stoked about this new Rocky Horror, for several reasons that pretty much all trace back to... I really can't get behind a big budget, traditional Hollywood studio produced, made for TV Rocky Horror.
Guy T. Koepp
I think my biggest concern will be how toned downed it might be. I thought Grease from a technical standpoint was great. Unfortunately content, character, horrible acting, and the adding and removing of songs caused it to suck balls.

Unfortunately content, character, horrible acting, and the adding and removing of songs caused it to suck balls. I'm pretty sure Fox cast a woman as Dr Frank in hopes that the story will read as less gay. Laverne Cox may be an LGBT icon, but in the context of the show, it'll be a woman doing all the flamboyant Dr Frank stuff.
Nrthwnd
Speaking of Valentine's Day..... This is coming to Broadway, unfortunately not with the former Dr.Who, Matt Smith. But I ordered the London Cast of it, to check it out. (The cd's coming out near the end of March, on Amazon.) But...a musical??? Yep. And music and lyrics by the same guy, who wrote "Spring Awakening".

Nrthwnd
Hamilton grabbed the Best Cast Recording Grammy on Monday, which was not too surprising, since they had a whole set up in New York for an airing of the show's opening number; there was a Grammy there to hand to them, if they won (duh); and Lin-Manuel Miranda 'happened to have' a hip hop acceptance speech, already written... Things that make you go hmmm. Whatever the case, it is a pretty amazing recording, and this will certainly add to their already exisiting wait list (now a year?) for tickets. Congrats to the HAMILTON cast and recording crew!
robbalvey
Last night we had the chance to see the touring production of Kinky Boots at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center in Orlando. For those of you who don't know much about the show, I will tell you first of all, there are a lot of dudes wearing women's clothing...and they look FABULOUS! Getting that out of the way, the show is just fantastic with some high-energy amazing music by Cyndi Lauper (You should know who she is) and a wonderful and touching story by Harvey Fierstein (he also wrote the book for Newsies.) Kinky Boots won the 2013 "Best Musical" Tony Award and you can see why. It's hilariously funny while at the same time being emotional and sends a great message. Yes, it's based on the movie of the same name, but the musical version is just so much more touching and endearing in every way possible. There are moments that are incredibly tear-jerking then later gets you laughing hysterically then before you know it, you are up dancing in your seat! And if there is any message to be learned from Kinky Boots it's simply to accept others for who they are, and be who you want to be, not what others say you ought to be. I recently saw the show on Broadway with Wayne Brady as the lead playing Lola, and the touring cast was also just incredible to watch. Some seriously fantastic acting, singing, and dancing skills in front of you. The sets are fantastic, and the whole show just leaves you feeling AWESOME when you exit the theater! Kinky Boots is part of the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Broadway series which you can find more info about here: http://www.drphillipscenter.org/ And if you're interested in seeing Kinky Boots while on tour, here's more info about their schedule: http://kinkybootsthemusical.com/ We HIGHLY recommend this show! From the official website: "Inspired by true events, KINKY BOOTS tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherits his father's shoe factory. Looking to save the family business, Charlie turns to a fabulously fashionable new friend — cabaret star Lola — who gives him an outrageous idea that could change both of their destinies. Soon, this unlikely duo creates the most sensational footwear that’s ever rocked the runways of Milan, giving the factory and its hardworking family a sparkling new future. An exuberant story about finding friendship, inspiration and passion where you least expect..." This wasn't my first time seeing this show, and it won't be the last! Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center is just beautiful! So happy to have this new venue in Orlando! It's nice to see the entire complex pays homage to much of Orlando's history. Just beautiful! Tonight we are going to get KINKY!!! Not gonna lie - I kinda want those socks! lol The cast just KILLED IT tonight! Such an amazing show filled with all kinds of emotion and high-energy excitement! Here's a few stock photos from the Broadway version of the show: Edited February 25, 2016 by robbalvey
Guy T. Koepp
What a great show! It has easily jumped to one of my top 5 live theatrical presentations. I could not agree with Robb more in saying to go out and see it if you get the chance. Awesome characters, awesome story, awesome staging, awesome choreography. If you like Broadway musicals, you will love this show!
Nrthwnd
I was really hoping Kinky Boots would make it on to the list we have for Broadway Across Canada/Vancouver's 2016-17 season. And...it did! We won't be seeing it until February, but I am so stoked for it, already!
